TOPIC: Fix the "Out of Stock" issue

The kickstarter allows them to have a supply-side reboot but also increases scheduling complexity.

they need to make litterally boxcars of maliable rubber tiles to fulfill the kickstarter. That's the current priority. It looks to be going well. Late september should see the arrival of the KS items in the USA and october for arrival at our homes.

I would expect that the factory will switch over to resin sometime in early/mid august to restock the existing product lines. That will take 2-3 months to produce and paint and then ship - arriving at the end of november.

at that point we may have either another kickstarter or, if the kickstarter is delayed until February 2014, production of additional resin lines that are currently being developed. (catacombes 2, sewers, etc.) The sculptors appear to have moved towards ever complex models with inherent lights and additional features built in, a great advancement that attracts new customers and maintains their client base but requires extra investment and may delay releases as additional engineering is required.

the bi-annual restock business model will likely become a quarterly restock - 2 for resin, an annual kickstarter and a dwarvinite restock.

the complexity of managing continual restocks/new models will tax the small efficient organization that is DF. I wish them well and wait with barely contained enthusiasm for their new oifferings and restocks.

They mentioned in another post that the resin restock isn't looking likely until Spring 2014, but might coincide with several new resin sets. Kickstarter #2 (caverns) slated for Jan 2014 I think they said. They also said that its two different factories so dwarvenite production doesn't impact resin production. I think the limiting factor is money, not factory time.

I think they've confirmed their biggest problem is that for them to keep the prices as low as they've kept them, they need to do large bulk orders -- which also implies a huge upfront production, warehousing & shipping cost, and very "bursty" restocks. To get more quarterly restocks, they'd probably have to raise the price, at least until volume picks up. Of course volume can't pick up as long as everything is out of stock.

Agreed, and I still think it is a huge mistake to have another KS begin and end and STILL have barely any resin sets in-stock.

Two factories. It is mostly a funding issue. DF is wisely avoiding overextending.

I agree as well. I said in another post that I am sticking with the resin pieces because that is what I started with.

Seems everything Stefan and other DF people been talking about lately is all kickstarter. All this talk of kickstarting these new cheaper sets and the old stuff not in stock is a bad sign IMO.

Probably true. However, why not wait an extra 6 weeks on the KS so that the resin sets can come back in stock before it is over?

I think they should hold the next kickstarter until they can say that the restock is shipping and indicate which sets will be available on what approximate date. It will save a lot of confusion, angst, and frustration.

If they do a second kickstarter, have both kickstarter projects done and in stock and shipped to the KS backers before the resin restocked it won't look good. I am glad they are doing kick starters and putting out less expensive sets to help more people get into DF. But that's all they been talking about. How about some love for the resin people?

Just to throw in my $.02:

I'm a new DF customer, just started buying resin sets last year. The Game Tiles are a total game changer for me, as a parent with small children. I'm incredibly psyched about October, and if the Dwarvenite in hand is half as good as it looks in the videos, I'll be going all-in for Dwarvenite. January for Caverns Kickstarter is perfect - just enough time to save up my pennies.

If DF can continue with the "Kickstart new Dwarvenite lines" model I will happily continue to pledge heavily every time. Resin restocks will likely not affect me at all. I know people like me aren't the majority here on the forum, but there may be more and more of us over time. Resin is beautiful, resin is wonderful, etc, I agree. Just wanted to say that there are people out there who are (most likely) all about the Dwarvenite from here on out...

I have no idea what it takes for DF to have more resin product produced verses dwarvenite product. I have no idea what the sales for resin has been for each of the last five years. All I know is that the first dwarvenite KS and presales are around 2 million. So why would anyone not expect DF to have another dwarvenite KS as soon as possible, unless 2 million is chump change to the normal resin sales for a year.

Either way I understand the frustration we all have at not getting more of the DF items we all want right now.

Stefan talked about this a bit in the thread titled "Updates on Restocking". Essentially they will be doing the resin restock in March. This appears to be less by choice and more by necessity. One of the things Stefan mentioned is that the resin factory has a 6-8 month lead time. That doesn't necessarily include all the details of shipping and checking things over once they arrive. On the bright side there will be several new resin sets coming, including Catacombs II.

I understand people are disappointed about the lack of resin, but I would hate to see Stefan and Jeff risk the stability of the company by doing too much at once. The 1.9 mil may seem like a lot, but given the kickstarter obligations and the potential costs involved in doing business it is best if they are careful. I for one want DF to be going strong for a long while yet.

Remember, Stefan had let us know that DF was in a bad spot before the kickstarter, they want to make sure that doesn't happen again. The resin restock should be in before the second kickstarter is stocked or shipped to backers if the current time table holds. Try to be excited about the new sets guys! Also... pester them for sneak peaks and previews!

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...
