TOPIC: Not finding the new web site easy to read
#38099
Not finding the new web site easy to read 4 Years, 4 Months ago
Just a gentle complaint that I am finding the new web site difficult to read. The fonts and color scheme isn't easy on the eyes (at least my eyes). I have to look harder to see what sections have new posts and by whom and it takes me more effort to read the thread titles. This may be just the newness of the site and I assume I will adjust, but I have been browsing every few days since the new site debuted and I'm still not finding it an easy reading experience.

Any chance of having the ability to customize look and layout (especially font and color scheme) by the user?

I am starting to get used to it, I noticed the little Green NEW posts section, and i even in the old forum generally clikced on the "show new", in this case "Show Latest Posts"

The color/background is fine for me, but ymmv

Yea me to in a way.

I switched to having a RSS feed delivered to my mail box for me to read new posts.

Plus this where I am writing right now is black righting on grey background. Not sure if it is because of the "quick reply" button though.

I posted this problem/issue in the Feedback section days ago and never heard back/didn't get a response.

I'm hoping that I'll get use to the new Forums, but right now I have to agree - its not as easy to read as the old forums.

Also I should say the new store front page and lava background are neat -- I do like them. I think the most off-putting for me is the yellow colored text font in the forum -- if I could change that I think it would help.

I also think it is odd that the forum is called "Kunena." Where does that come from? I get email updates when someone leaves a post in this thread and they come from "Kunena Forum" as the author -- shoudn't it come from "Dwarven Forge"?

Anyway, I love DF stuff and have always enjoyed the forums -- just want to help get any kinks worked out if I can.

Oh -- and one more: the thread adds a new page after only 6 posts. That also is going to make it harder to follow conversations -- I think there should be a lot more posts per page.

I would have to agree. The colors are all over the place. Also, not sure why the author of a post is way over to the right side of the page, should read left to right as with every other forum. It just seems more natural to see the author of a post then read their comments. This is just my opinion.

Now I'm receiving email updates from "Dwarven Forge" instead of "Kunena." Thanks for changing that!

I think that during our next Star Wars RPG session my sons will have to visit the mysterious Kunena System -- a planet with strangely colored plants and quickly shifting geological features. You never know what it will be like because each time time you visit things change!

Guys, seriously, black-on-grey and grey-on-black and dark-blue-on-black and grey-on-grey are lousy choices for contrast, and a real disservice to some forum-goers and potential customers. I can't use the quick reply option at all, and I have to squint and adjust the screen and move closer to the monitor to make out user names and buttons -- I never had to do that with the old site.

This isn't necessarily about bad eyesight -- my vision was laser-corrected back to 20/20 several years ago. I don't know if the ability to distinguish contrast is affected by age or not. But when you design a website, try putting your mom or dad in front of the screen and ask them if they can read everything on it. If they can't, it's not a user-friendly design.

And try looking at the screen in a brightly lit area -- not everyone has their monitor set up to be the brightest light-source in the room.
