We are currently working on a set of goals for the next DF website design. Please give us your suggestions -- we would love to read them and use them. We have to work within certain parameters, but we will try to implement as many as possible.

I will gather info from other Topics also, but I thought this would be a good spot to start a fresh list.

Thanks for all your help...as you guys know best what we should do.

Yes, Please send suggestions for Jeff and Doug!
I wish I could help but I am hopelessly old fashioned and cannot handle computers:(

I agree though, that our site needs lot's of improvement especially now that we are web only! Jeff improved it vastly from our last web site which was didn't even have a forum section...now it's time to take it to the next level!

Gentlemen,

I have noticed a marketing trend, and that is that I have seen no presence of advertisment outside of the DF website itself.

I can tell you that there are many people (in Minnesota anyways) that I have spoken with that believe you no longer exist! I can only tell so many myself, but I've turned into the recluse in recent years. ;)

Have you considered advertising on an outside website using inexpensive banners, such as en world?

As far as feedback for a new website, I would like to see 2 things that pop to mind rght now:
1). Cool 3d imaging of major pieces, maybe that nice "spin" feature where you can turn the piece around to see it from many angles (it would have been killer on the new bar piece!).
2). How to use the pieces. I know there is a forum devoted to this, but I don't see the average/casual customer going into the forums.

On the area of banners, another site might be CoolMiniOrNot.com, which caters to miniature painters. The perfect setting for minis is, of course, Master Maze!

That goes for the Sci-Fi folks as well.

I do note that the latest issue of The Dragon has a full page ad for the Den of Evil Room Set. I don't know what, if any, advertising content will be in the online versions of The Dragon or Dungeon magazine, but if they use ad banners, I'd suggest continuing with these magazines (soon to be e-zines, I guess).

The very best advertising is when people see it in person. I've used it for the D&D games I've run at the D&D Meetup sessions. It's nice to be looked upon with envy.

:D

Through the years we have consistantly advertised in Dragon/dungeon and in some convention booklets across the country and of course, just going to Origins (although not this year) or Gen Con, and a few others we went to in the past........We don't have enough money to advertise in places where we don't think we will get a big return. Some advertising is very expensive. We believe that most serious miniature gamers have heard about us and that the casual ones are not the types who will be collecting our products anyway. There is a lot of word of mouth. collectors who run games at conventions are a huge help of course. I think some banner ads on Coolminiornot would be an interesting idea to follow up on. Any other sites anyone can recommend?

Bottom line is.....make a great product. That has always been my focus. If you focus on making something good (and are also successful at trying to do that) Good things tend to follow more often than not. in our case we have been mostly lucky (or good) It is also good for your health and state of mind to make good things, to try to excell. of course, good advertisng, smart advertising can only help, so we are open to any smart economical ideas anyone might have.

Thanks for the help and input. Gamers are a smart bunch. We understand that you guys also want us to survive and grow so we can make more stuff. We have had lot's of great input from lots of great people over the years. Using the Forums, many people have been contributing their time and efforts in many great ways. So, we will keep our ears and minds open...

Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen!

New Web Design,

Keep it easy to find products.
Please do not go to a Blog format.
Easy to navigate and fast loading are very important.
Having the old layout book in PDF format would be useful for new buyers.
Sample layout photos that are easy to access and simple enough that they don't intimidate new buyers. (Many people think you need many sets to have fun, not true but I can't talk as I have over 2 dozen sets myself.)

How about (to go along with DaggerdaleDM) schematics (like the tilesystem program can give you) that show how to construct 2-3 layouts per set? Maybe 2 "blueprints" for that one set alone, then another with some additional sets used with it? Myabe even these could be available for download to help newbies get building!

Maybe a "dungeon of the month" where you either feature something Stefan or Jeff has dreamed up using the DF sets, or the winner of the latest construction contest, or some other awesomeness that people create that frequently hits these forums but the casual buyer might never get to see?

Hey guys,
Just a suggestion. I notice that a lot of the forum members here have some fantastic websites showcasing their work and their hobbies.

I'm not sure what everyone else's thoughts are on the matter, but perhaps some form of authorized banner system placed on those forum member websites might help promote DF to the internet users.....and lets be honest, most gamers now a days are fairly net savvy. This way, we are getting some promotion of the site besides standard word of mouth.

Well, I'm happy to report that everyone at Shore Leave 29 who played in "The Big Saturday D&D Game" was VERY IMPRESSED with DF!
Three levels of DF for "Quest for Xixix"; MBS top, Cavernous Lakes w/some help from the original Cavern Set middle, and Sci-Fi Starter, Passages, Alpha, and Beta on the bottom!
I ALWAYS talk up Dwarven Forge at conventions, and anywhere else I go where there are gamers. I don't KNOW how well it helps, but I hope it does!

As to possible Banner sites...
Maybe Paizo... i mean they are willing to use DF in the Game Mastery Delve... even if they don't put a banner up on the site if they new Adventure path series (or what ever it is called that the Kobold king is a part of) has maps that can work/are desigend to be used with DF maybe some sort of "linkage", give them a nice graphic of the DF logo or such that contians a written out addy for the store, or one that can be clicked (i think but not 100% sure that the new series will also be in PDF form) so they can get to the store from there.
Heck with programs like Tile Ssytem if enough info was known before hand they could even get full on TS files to get breakdowns of needed items for the adventures, but that might be a bit much.

I would have also suggested the websites of forum members, ANY way to get the word out is better than nothing :)

I just wish there were more Cons in my neck of the woods.

What about someone here who plays the DDM skirmish game, either designing a new skirmish map with DF stuff, or taking one of thier pre-made skirmish maps and building it out of DF sets? Then we could post it to all the DDM message boards...

;)

I've thought about doing that for SW skirmish (setting it up one day, it's something i want to do), I have a map made for the most part, the only problem is I don't have too many accesories to go with it that are Pure DF, they are from all over the place.

D&D might work a bit better...
