...or even if you got one, or three, or more in the preorders!

Show your support for the Sci-Fi line and let the world know you've got Beta sets on the way!

Me, I'm down for two (to start.)

EDIT: Whoops. Wrong forum. Sorry about that.

Well, I put in my order on Monday, around 5 PM. I also wanted to order two sets, but with the doubling of minimum payments on credit cards, I figured I'd better wait until the IRS coughs up with THEIR loan repayment!
Since I file electronically, it should come back fairly quickly, and then I can saturate DF and the rest with cash instead of credit!
So watch out, Jeff; come late March, you're going to be drowned in orders from me!

See Ya!

Hey...if you guys know of any sci-fi or Star Wars sites, we would appreciate it if you can give us a post there. We really want this set to be a success, as the continuation of the sci-fi line rests on the sales of the Beta set. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can think of two or three off the top of my head, the Star Wars Minis and RPG sites run by Wizards, SWRPGnetwork and the Holonet forums they run, as well as well StarWars.com and their forums... however, adds on The WotC site don't quite sit well, you can't directly post an add say, hey check out this cool stuff you can buy made by this company... it is a sure way to get your thread shut down, locked and or deleted. SWRPGnetwork not as bad.... will have to think of a way to [cough] post an ady that is not an ady [/cough] at all three...

GS, you mean that on the WEB sites you mentioned you could post cool pics of your Star Wars figs on Dwarven Forge's Master Maze terrain without mentioning that Dwarven Forge made the terrain and THEN you would be CENSORED for answering the questions posted asking you about who made the cool terrain?
If yes, that is protectionism taken way too far!
This extreme protectionism is especially immoral since Dwarven Forge advertises for Star Wars minis through their extensive use of Star Wars minis in Master Maze sample pics.

If no GS, as in you never thought about doing advertsing in this fashion, do it.
Advertsing well does not need flashing panels and bright colours all of the time to be effective.

You could always tell folks after the terrain questions start posting that you will e-Mail Dwarven Forge's link to them since (whatever WEB page) is being too stinky to allow you to post links to non-competitive businesses.
That too, in and of itself, will generate positive interest in Dwarven Forge and its product.

It depends, sometimes on how touchy the WizO's are at the time, i have had a thread with some pictures and stuff locked yes others no. It depends, sometimes it only happens if someone complains. And yes I have seen this type of thing get canned "post cool X without mentioning that Company Z made the terrain and THEN you have it be CENSORED for answering the questions posted asking you about who made the cool terrain?"
They make the rules for their site and you when you sign on agree to follow them, and one of the rule is "Prohibited chat room, board, and e-mail list, behaviors include (but are not limited to):" "advertising or promoting a business or commercial site"

I must say that DF and its boards are very kind in allowing alot of the talk and cross posting on things like Grendel and Anisty, I have tended to see it far more restrictive in more places than it is here.

Come now RabidFox* i seem to remember you left the WWG forums over the same issue, to me it is more prevalent than not

Oh and that picture with the Stormies at www.dwarvenforge.com/sci-fi.htm
I took the first week i had any Sci-Fi DF, it is a remant from the old site when they used to have that page where people sent in pictures, i had some fun with my first two setups and sent a bunch in, i guess they liked that one enough to keep it.

So i don't know if that one picture currently qulifies as " extensive use of Star Wars minis in Master Maze sample pics." The oringal pictures i saw actaully had Genestealers in a StarHulk type game, and were the ones i tend to remember seeing, becuase the add campaing for this started Before the SW minis came out. And yes while they have done a few large setups using SW minis in them, I hope they aren't banking on SWMinis to sell the line, from what i have seen of SpaceHulk, and the posts to that regards on these boards this would work well for that game, and people should plug it for that as well.

Actually GS, the only gaming forum that I have been a member of that did not allow, at least passively, if not actively, the speaking of other companies' products was the World Works one.
World Works' and Denny's inability to get along nicely in the gaming world except for Mel Ebbles (Chris Roe) is why I left that forum and stopped buying their product despite its utility.
I can get quality product from other companies that do not have self-worth anxieties.

Actually GS, I have observed, because of that incident, a distinct decrease of enthusiasm for World Works in the teritory in which I play.
Insecurity, in a person or a company, is not an economically attractive trait GS.

Many forums GS do say that if you actively advertise a direct competitor's product, they will take measures.
There is a serious number of those sites out there though GS that truely seem to understand what "direct competitor" actually means.
I could see Grendel or Ainsty, maybe even Hirst Arts, having a complaint about Dwarven Forge terrain being spoken about on a forum of theirs, but not WOTC.
There is NO direct competition involved.

rabidFox;

You have to remember, when a company is as 'imperialistically-minded' as Hasbro, NO ONE is allowed to compete, in any way, shape or form. If they DO, then, why of course, they can't POSSIBLY be allowed to advertise THEIR product, on OUR Web page.

Or, in other words, WotC considers ANY mention of ANY non-Hasbro product or corporation to be 'enemy action' advertising, and they'll boot you from the forums. That's the way it seems, anyway. The fact (and of course, it IS a fact!) that DF in NO WAY competes with ANYTHING WotC or Hasbro produces (unless Mage Knight Dungeons are from them) is, to quote the Borg, "Irrelevant. You will be assimilated."

What can I say, RF? WotC is just another paranoid, profit-focussed Madison Avenue/Wall Street monster. If it wasn't for the fact that they DO make (or resell) some very nice D&D and SW minis, I'd say thread them into the 2x4 and let's go play something else, know what I mean?

See Ya!

Greetings folks,

Denny Unger here from WorldWorks Games. The new site looks great DwarvenForge! Very clean design, easy to navigate and straight to the point. After a night of random surfing I stumbled upon this thread and I feel that the above comments are important and need comment. To the operators of DwarvenForge, if you feel that any of these comments are not appropriate I will completely understand if you remove them from the forum.

(I am in no way referencing DwarvenForge with any of these comments). I want it understood publicly that there are very specific reasons we do not allow competitors products being advertised on the WWG community forum (There are many links to other non-terrain gaming company sites on the forums and even a few in my links section: worldworksgames.com/store/index.php?main_page=infopages&pages_id=13#). This whole issue revolves around attitude and mutual respect with my peers. If your link was removed RabidFox it was likely because we had to institute a blanket policy for reasons I will explain to you; I’ve had the unfortunate displeasure of having to counter a good deal of spin instigated by a few key competitors in the paper terrain market out there over the years. They saw a threat and seemingly made a collective effort to squash me early on. You have to understand that I made numerous attempts early on to reach out to and start dialog with some of my peers in the cardstock terrain market. It was my hope that I could engage them to create a healthy, productive and stable market but I was instead greeted with venom and slander. One company in particular seemingly made it their life’s ambition to damage WWG in any way it could. That company and its tactics ultimately failed (because truth has a way of outlasting the lies). I had no idea how melodramatic the world of terrain would be ;) Trust me, it had nothing to do with my "inability to get along nicely in the gaming world", in fact it was quite the opposite and related to maybe two bad apples.

The only acceptation to any of the above was my relationship with Mel Ebbles (Chris Roe). Chris is a genuine person; he was unthreatened and willing to talk to me like a human being rather than a competitor. We are now actively developing new products together that benefit both companies. This is the kind of open and creative dialog I had hoped to foster with other companies. Long story short, all this time later those few competitors have for the most part gone silent but the poison of their lies and all the negativity associated with it still lingers (your position and the kind of distorted image of the business it presents is proof of that). Sometimes policies are set for reasons we don't want to bore or confuse our audience with. Sometimes we just don't want the mudslinging on our forums.

On a related note I would happily cross promote DwarvenForge at WorldWorks if we can open a constructive dialog. I am always open to creative partnerships. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak here on this issue.

Denny.

P.S.
RabidFox, please feel free to give me an e-mail if you would like any of what I said above further clarified.

Hi Denny,

Not sure how often you'll be browsing these, but in case you DO stumble back here -- I am pretty sure there are many of us who would LOVE to see you guys and DF getting along. There are a handful of people here, myself included, who already use products from both companies, and encourage mixing-and-matching when the products involved look so fantastic.

Browse through the "Cool Photos" section a bit, and you'll undoubtedly find a few threads with pics of setups including items from both companies!
