I agree that the special additions (such as throne, fountain, staircase or such things) and the "room set" would be much better separate. What I would like to see in a room set is 4" walls, possibly 6" walls, 4" by 6" floor, more corners, and more 2" walls. If the 2" walls must somehow be different from the original DoE that would be fine as long as they still fit in with the original walls, such as maybe the same design but with the teeth painted a different color, so the same colors but a slightly different design instead of the teeth. I can also see columns in the room set, as these would be needed in many multiples. If the special elements were separated from the room elements, I can see myself buying two "special additions" sets and many "room sets" (maybe 4 or 5).

Yeah, I like this idea -- a seperate set of requests for things we don't mind multiples of, so DoE stays a limited edition set but it is also possible to add to our DoE displays without getting an obscene amount of passages... hm....

Of course, I have no ideas. I like the suggestion of doing long walls, big floors, secret doors, and maybe even another kind of doorway in the Beta expansion. Just make an Alpha expansion of furniture/narsty features that don't repeat, and a Beta expansion of mostly basic, useful building stuff, but nothing too fancy (or more fancy than DoE already is)

I think a room set will have walls that a very similar but not exactly the same. It would also include other things that gamers would want multiples of such as secret doors or something else...any suggestions for things that would be better for this set rather than the evil additions set? basically things that you would be happy to have multiples of.
I think it would be nice to have the same walls and floors thrown into a box with a few other pieces, maybe some of the ideas from the suggestion thread. Pick some of the suggestions that wouldn't traditionally fit the format for a Wicked Additions set (like candelabras, grand staircase, dais, a couple of statues), put them in and call it the DoE Deluxe Room Set. To make the collectors happy make it another limited edition set, that way they've got their corridors that aren't available anywhere else in the R&P set and another set with other exclusives to add to their collection. (Something tells me that last sentence could have been shorter.) I'd be happy with any kind of DoE room set though. I really like the set I have and would like to add to it, but to buy an expensive set with just a few room pieces and a bunch of passages that I don't normally use a lot really isn't practical.

Yeah, the more I think about it, and the more suggestions I see, the more this makes sense. A set of basic walls and floors, maybe some larger wall and floor pieces, and things like candelabras, columns, even a raised dais-type thing would work, since all of those would be GREAT to have many of.

Though Mentioned Elsewhere, I Would Interject again that If there were kewl Architectual Elements Like A Dais, or Throne For Example (Or Sarcophagi etc...), that these Not be Attached to Any Floors or Walls... So that They Could be used in Conjunction with Other DF Themes...

Also An Item that Falls Neatly into the possible "Room" or Deluxe Room Catagory And would Possibly Answer the Question about Variants in the 2" Walls Would Be Walls with an Opening/Window In Them... This Would Be Really useful if they Were Designed like the Doors with a Top Loading "Drop In" Window Element, so that there Could be Different Uses for the Same Piece... (Force Fields/Magic Barriers, Iron Bars, Iron Shutters, Wooden Shutters, Bio-goo)?

I love this idea. This is the most practical, yet useful idea I've seen yet.

Geek Icon,

Thanks, I Have been harping For this for Sci-Fi as well... It Could be Really Functional...

Now it Also Occurs to me, that Somthing that Has Never Been Brought up, (To My Knowledge), But would be Particularly useful for Anyone Who Recreates Existing Modules, Would Be Diagonal Passage Sections... (Also Needed For Caverns, Sci-Fi and Fantasy)... The Diagonal Walls Work but are Tedious for Long Corridors and Look a Little "Strange" lined Up... Not to Mention that Each Set has so Few of them, that Unless You Purchased the Diagonal Wall Set or the Octagonal Room Set Back "In the Day", it Could be Difficult to Get Enough to Make up any Diagonal Passage of length...

Well, in fact I don't mind if the room set comes separate or with a double package of DoE-WA set, because I plan to take both. :-)
I don't really mind at all the Limited Edition issue, I'd like to have more room pieces exactly like the DoE originals without passages in a set, with or without the additions. The other thing I mind about the "DoE WA and Room" set is that having a double package don't makes the number of additions lower.

I got my DoE sets today. I bought the last 4 available from the first pre-order and received sets #174, 175, 243, and 235. It turns out I was right and that you need 4 sets to really fill up a table and get some cool rooms and passages going. DoE is great, love it, no real complaints so far to speak of (haven't checked #174 yet as I'm building as I go). If only I had a digital camera I could post my 4 DoE set-up...

Nitpicks: One piece had some glue on it which I couldn't fully remove. One piece had some minor brown paint brushed onto its floor, and a lot of one set had yellow bristles from a paint brush stuck to over half the pieces which were a pain to remove. Otherwise, the paint jobs have been uniformly very nice, and the sculpts are great. Only thing missing is the full color packaging of the sci-fi sets.

Overall, DoE is a much better value than the $50 sci-fi sets, being roughly equal to two starter sets and a passage set per box, so you can really start to do something with just one or two sets, whereas you need rtwice as many $50 sci-fi sets to achieve the same thing.

Unfortunately, my Star Wars campaign fizzled out before DoE showed up... I was going to use it for a Sith academy on Korriban... Now that we've switched to fantasy again (HarnMaster 3rd Edition!), we will end up using DoE for castles, temples and dungeons. Good thing the set is versatile in that regard. Now what am I gonna do with my 14 sci-fi sets, LOL? Hmm. bound to play Star Wars or some other futuristic setting again eventually. Better hang on to 'em. ;)

The Cavern sets have been popular for years now, what would it do to DF if people were told "Oh, those are OOP now"? Keep THIS particular set limited, but get a variation on it back into production so that future fans aren't turned away at the velvet rope....
I just wanted to say that now that I've readed deeply this thread I'm in much agree with L. I think this should be something that future fans can have. Has much uses and not is something that you only use once or twice.

I agree too in the fact that if somebody wants to have a lot of basic pieces, that person doesn't need necessarily more than a bunch of additions. The WA and the room set should come separately.

I think this is a great topic that we should have in mind, so... opinions?, I think it's important that Stefan and Jeff know what the many of us prefer. Don't you think so?

Yeah, I feel the same way. I understand that there are collectors who would be upset if DoE suddenly became a regular item, since they may have bought it because it was Limited Edition. I, however, really don't care. I know I've seen people post about a couple of sets that I didn't know existed (can't think of the names at the moment), and I'm kinda disappointed that I didn't know what DF was until earlier this year and don't have the opportunity to get these out of production items. Even if the pieces were slightly different, I think that to completely stop producing the DoE pieces is like hiding the Mona Lisa and saying "If you get to see it before next August then good for you. Otherwise you're outta luck." What about the poor sap who finds out about it in September?

THere is some debate about DoE being a limited production.

I may be assuming here, but I think doing limited sets and discontinuing other sets is very normal in any hobby industry. There is a law of diminishing returns when it comes to collectibles, and if DF kept everything it ever made in stock on the off chance that it MIGHT sell 100 of them next year, then DF would have too much inventory and not enough cash. DF can't order a small amount of anything when they run out...so let's say they kept DoE around. They order 1000 more sets. By the time the 1500 original are gone, 90 percent of the people who wanted DoE when it came out will have it, the rest may pick them up at some time. Newbies will purchase DoE sets, but not quickly, maybe over years. Meanwhile DF took the capital it could have used to make new sets for the fan base and has it tied up in stock sitting in a warehouse.

I think this limited ed. approach for "risky" sets is perfect. It rewards the longtime DF fans. As for "hurting newbies"... hey, I used to collect stamps, I'm not going to able to ask the post office to reissue a new batch of elvis stamps just because I missed the batch... they are not going to do it. SHould I feel like I am turned away from the velvet rope....
