TOPIC: Sacrilege?

Sacrilege? 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
The more I use Dwarvenite the more I like it. Its durability is excellent and ease of customization is manifest. I like it better than resin for day to day use. Except for limited addition pieces and specialized sets like Catacombs I cannot see a reason to keep using or purchasing the traditional resin Classic Dungeon Sets.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Cavernous Lakes, Rivers and Passage sets. The swinging log trap, the Hell's Gate, DoE, RotA, etc, are all fantastic. I just want to see more offered in Dwarvenite.

Thoughts?

I will be offering a great deal of my basic resin pieces for sale over the next couple of months so I can reinvest in Dwarvenite.

Heck, forget resin. Those limited edition sets aren't that cool anyway, you should just get rid of them. Imagine how much Dwarvenite you could buy!

I'd be happy to take them off your hands.... :P

@ thebigteacher

You are not alone! I am hoping the next KS is all about medieval villages because then all my DF will be Dwarvenite exclusive and all my resin sets will be gone.

To each his own I guess, but I still prefer my Master Maze to Dwarvenite. I mean cast resin and stone vs plastic, it is a no brainer for me. I don't like plastic minis either.

I agree on the minis 100%. My Bones Minis are cheap yes but inferior to alloys in every other way. I have painted a few dozen but have hundreds of them left to paint. The large Bones figures are much better than the human to small sized ones.

Which is why I backed a kickstarter for pewter minis instead. They are behind though. Were supposed to be out in December and still have not shipped:(

For me, I have to admit, the jury is still out. I'm happy with my Dwarvenite game tiles pieces, and I really like the look of the cavern KS pieces. But the original KS pieces showed up with a somewhat different paint job from the early photos. They still looked good, but to be fair, they were a step down from both the early proto photos and from what we'd seen in resin. I want to see somebody do a photo compare of an "in hand" production piece of the cavern KS and an original resin cavern piece. And I want the comparison to be based on what the factory produces "en masse," not based on any early release pieces people may already have.

If they look as good as I hope, I will be that much closer to being a total Dwarvenite convert. But if there is still a noticeable difference in quality, Dwarvenite is going to remain slightly lower tier for me. Still high quality, still highly recommended, and still somethng I'm glad the company can do - but not at all a replacement for the higher end resin stuff.

I've recently picked up a set of Dwarvenite dungeon tiles off eBay, and already had some resin dungeon sets for comparison. I actually came to a different conclusion -- I like the resin sets a lot more, and would get rid of the Dwarvenite if they didn't have a specific purpose...

...which is, of course, durability. While the resin pieces are fairly sturdy, I have recently (and unfortunately) seen that they are possible to break through fairly simple mishandling and dropping.

Dwarvenite stands up to the rigors of misbehaving cats, absentminded children, and clumsy adults -- all of which are, at times, a reality in my household.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses...Resin is more beautiful, and best for in home use, away from small children...Dwarvenite is more practical and portable...I like having both in my arsenal....like having a lamborgini and a pick up truck in your garage...
