[room and passage set] Some problems 9 Months ago
Hello, I am new and I begin on this site and forum.

First of all I want to apologise for my English (I’m French), and I want to thank dwarven forge and the team of this forum !

I recently discovered Dwarven forge and I have been seduced, I play warhammer and DD for several years and the idea to realise a dungeon was very tempting for me.
So I ordered my first set to test : the room and passage set, and I received it recently

This is the purpose of my message, I’m not satisfied because 2 reasons :
- Some pieces are bad molded and don’t fit toghether : there’s a large space on the ground between 2 pieces.

- The most problematic concern the painting : all pieces of my set have a bad painting. I thougt this on the unpacking, and some searchs on this forum confirm. My kit as not the same (and good) paint than the others.

As you can see I have only 1 color on the wall insted of 2, moreover the texture is ugly (the paint brushing is bad)
I took photos with and without flash and I have compared with others found on this forum :

As you can see the paint is bad, and all pieces of my set are like this

Beginning I had for ambition to build a large dungeon but this discourage me, and I wonder for the rest (continue to extend or stop)

So I have 2 questions :
- Is my kit an "accident" ? (I was unlucky) or all sets are painted like this ?
- Can you do something for me ? like compensation, exchange...

I'm sorry to complain like this and I don't blame DF, but I was realy disapointed with my first DF experience
Thank you

I have had very few issues with my DF over 40+ sets and the few that I have were quickly replaced.
I am, however, trying to discern whether you actually have an issue from the photos. The paint is supposed to be multi-colored and there are some minor alignment issues with some pieces, they are hand made after all. None should be serious. From what I can see in the pictures with arrows, these are normal. They don't always fit truly "square" to each other. It is part of the nature of the polystone they are made from.
However, if you feel yours are not up to par click on Contact Us botton above and talk with them. I am sure they will correct the issue.

Hmm.. It sounds like he's saying his paint ISN'T multicolored, that the variations in the stones weren't done on his sets.

I do have to say, I have been getting DF for over a decade now, and it does seem like the paint jobs on more recent sets have been a step down from what my older sets look like. There is more spillage, less exact paint applications, there is loss of detail from the sculpt sometimes, etc. When I compare my older sets to my newer ones, there is a noticeable step down in quality. It isn't a big enough deal to me to have mentioned it before, the step down is noticable but doesn't reach the level of "I'm dissatisfied now." But I'm wondering if DF has been forced to change factories, or cut costs, and we're seeing the effects of that decision.

I have to say, these, to me look pretty much just like my own.

I did not see the "floor gap," but I agree with the above poster that the hand painted nature and material they are created with is going to mean that there are some differences between pieces.

DF has always been really awesome with customer service, so I would contact them directly.

Just be aware - they are in the middle of their Kickstarter fulfillment, so there may be a slight delay.

Exact ! My sets has only one color (grey) and not variation "yellow" in stones, so the result is very bad, there is no differences between stones as we can see on the photos

I will contact them

Hello Argol,

I am really sorry! Your R&P Set is definitely not up to our standard! Please send it back to us for replacement, where did you purchase it? was it from Thod? If so, i am sure he will be more than happy to replace it. My Apologies!

@Law, by no means are we cutting costs....in fact our cost to produce these sets has doubled! So I am very upset by the quality of these pictures and will bring it up with the factory....which other sets are going down in quality? Please let Jeff know your thoughts, NOTHING should be going down in quality, our latest Set the Catacomb's was top notch I thought, you even gave it a sparkling review yourself....the only thing that is happening is the prices are going up a bit next year....nothing should be going down in quality.

Thank you Stefan, I suppose you belong to dwarven forge team ?
Your answer is very reassuring and serious.

How can I do to ask the replacement ? Do you have Thod's mail and would he agree to do this replacement ?

I have to say, I have read this thread several times, and just today, I saw the problem of the stones not being individually painted.

Yeah, mine do NOT look like that, and I don't know what was wrong with my eyes when I initially posted...it was my birthday yesterday, so maybe I am finally getting old....

I'm glad to hear that it seems Stefan is already trying to take care of your problem.

Stefan *is* one of the owners of Dwarven Forge, and as you can see, reacts in a timely fashion, and treats issues with seriousness, which is a rare thing these days, and MUCH appreciated.

Let us know when you get your "proper" sets, please. :)

Oh, I agree the Catacombs set is a classic, no complaints there. But some of the basic dungeon sets that I've bought recently don't have quite the same paint jobs that my sets from 2001 or 2002 have. To be honest, it's so minor I am not even sure a camera would pick up the difference, at least not MY camera. So it's hardly a problem. But it was something I noticed, and when I saw this post, I wondered if maybe some people had it worse than me.

As far as I'm concerned, this one set seems to have been a bad batch. My own sets, maybe next time I have a bunch of things out I'll try to take a picture to show what I mean, but frankly, the "problem" is so minor, it's not worth it to me to take everything out and snap the pics with just the right lighting to make sure it gets captured as well as possible, etc.etc.
