WOOT!

A few catacombs sets were just thrown up on ebay and I snagged 2 of them. I am one VERY happy camper right now. I cannot WAIT to get these in the mail!!

I finally received two Catacombs Sets yesterday and immediately cancelled all plans I had last night.

Law gave an amazingly accurate review of this set and I can't really add anything to what's already been said. The set is truly a work of functional art and is my favorite so far - by far. Not particularly because of the setting but because of the depth of detail, the imaginative design, and how much this sets allow you to create literally HUNDREDS of different layouts!

All I can do to add to this review is emphasize how awesome the FREE STANDING WALLS are!!! The set comes with shorts walls, long walls, and curved walls full of skeletons and skulls. Each one capable of standing on their own and truly making this set unique.

I'm already planning an encounter where my heroes are "not to disturb any corpses in these catacombs, lest they rise from their ancient sleep." Then have one of the group accidentally knock over a series of parallel walls (domino style) and rousing the wrath of 20+ undead.

As mentioned before, some curved half floors are really the only thing missing out of this set but it's a minor gripe. After playing with this for the first few hours I truly hope that DF comes out with individual standing wall add-ons for every set currently available as they unlock a whole new level of design potential.

The Good News & the Bad News re: Law's review 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Law.

The Good News is that your review was incredibly convincing.
The Bad News is that now you've convinced someone else to beat you to getting some sets.

My already great appreciation for the detail of the Catacombs set skyrocketed to another level entirely last night when one of my friends spilled candle wax on a few of the straight walls :-(

After freezing the pieces over night I'm beginning to pick it all out with a straightened paper clip. Let's just say that I now know how archaeologists feel when they are painstakingly excavating a fragile work site!

If you have some wooden toothpicks, they are less likely to scratch the paint than the end of a paperclip.

You can actually heat up and wipe off the candle wax with a hair dryer. It will melt the wax but not the tile.
