Feedback on Lake Expansion Set 1 Year, 5 Months ago
I just received my first sets of the Lake Expansion Set. WOW! I may have a new favorite DF set! This set looks SO amazing and I can't wait to order the Cavernous Lake & River and Passages Sets! The detail is amazing!

Yes, it's awesome. The whirlpool can also be used for a mystic portal (think Stargate).

Hi Monk, just wondering about the set, do you have any of the other lake/ river sets? I'm wondering if it's "useable" on its own as I only have 2catacombs, rooms and passage and advanced builder. Thanks for any feedback! :)

I'm not sure Falkbert due to just getting the sets and I don't have any other Lake Sets, but I do think it's possible with the Cavern Set. It seems though that you may need the Cavernous Lake Set to really pull it off, so I will be watching close for when they get restocked and get at least two sets.

Can anyone give Falkbert a better answer?

I just got my set in the mail too, and I'd have to say that as cool as the set is, it wouldn't be a seamless transition from cavern to water. It would look a little abrupt and unnatural since the edge of the water would be a perfectly straight line. It's usable if you aren't too worried about appearances, but if you want it to look its best, you will need at least a lake set for a proper shoreline.
I missed out on the cavernous lakes and rivers sets, and I'm waiting patiently for the restock, but in the meantime I bought some of the straight shorelines and the open water tiles from the Individual pieces page to get me by. The Lake Expansion set gives me some water tiles with land in a single corner which allows me to make complete shorelines.
If you're planning to eventually get the lakes and rivers and can afford it at the moment, then you should order an Expansion set while they have them in stock, that way you'll have them ready when the other sets are restocked.

Thanks Monkplayer and Danarchy! I'm gonna think about it a little more, makes sense to get it now due to the fact I'd love to get the other cavern and river sets when they're back in stock.

Danarchy makes a lot of sense. This is what I was thinking I would need to do as well. I need the Cavernous Lake Set to get that seamless transition from the Cavern Set to the Lake Set & Lake Expansion Set.

When I saw that they were restocked I ordered a couple of Cavernous Lake sets, and they arrived a couple days ago. I am definitely glad that I bought the Lake Expansion set. It adds a lot of flexibility to the shapes you can set up your lake in.
Without the Expansion set the basic Lake set is still awesome, but you can do so much more with the Expansion set that it would be hard not to reccommend it. Honestly, at first I bought it mostly for the whirlpool piece, and maybe for the "cavern door". The other pieces look a little bland in the photo, but the rest of the set has so much utility that it'll probably get used any time I put a lake down, while the whirlpool only makes it into special set ups. Now I just have to wait for the rivers to restock . . .
