I was thinking earlier that if I pick up the Hellscape, I'll want a chasm set to repaint the ledges to match the Hellscape, and the walkways to transition between the two.

Very good idea. Maybe Stefan can give a color suggestion?

I would like to see a HS2 also. Maybe have a 4 x 4 floor piece that is solid lava (like the water tile) something that would be hard to cross so the PC’s would have to brainstorm an idea to get to the other side (or get deep fried trying)

I completely agree. That's exactly what I am expecting for. :-)

Like I said in my first post, I really want to see both floors with MORE lava, and floors with LESS. And as far as a Hellscape Chasm set is concerned, I think we'd clearly need walls with lava dripping down them from the top, in order to line them up with the floor pieces above them -- so that the final effect is of a stream of lava flowing down steps.

There really are a ton of things that could be done to expand this.... But to be honest, in some ways I'd like to see an ice cavern set first. Partly because the variety would be nice, and some folks out there really want to see it (while the lava fans have been partly satiated). But also because even if this is Hellscape as opposed to "extreme environment cavern," ice is appropriate. I kind of like being able to take players through several layers of Hell, and the transition would be pretty imposing....

You also get some pretty neat gameplay possibilities when you have lava and ice that close to each other.

Pushing a denizen of one environment into another can do a lot to soften them up, whether it is due to lack of resistance to the temperature, or catastrophic damage from a rapid change from one extreme to the other. Said denizens might not get along, which offers the possibility of pitting powerful monsters against each other and then taking out the weakened victor.

And if the two environments can be made to intersect (get the lava to flow into the ice chambers, or get ice to fall into the lava chambers), your party might actually trigger a natural disaster that will destroy both areas.

How about a wall thats twice as high as a normal wall, but is a lavafall (like a waterfall, but lava) that would work with a 4 x 4 title of solid lava. So the lavafall feed a 4 x 4 river of lava. just a thought.

These are great ideas folks...keep em coming as we are in the conceptual stage for the next Hellscape...I will definitely include a floor piece that has no Lava and a floor piece that is something of a Lake, and also a different curved corner...I think some sort of Lava fall is also an obviously great idea....I'll wait a few weeks for more suggestions so that everyone can fiddle around with set ups for a while...

I would certainly think that some passage pieces with a little lava flowing in them would be great, as they could represent lava tubes. Perhaps even with a little curvature at the top of the walls. These would go seamlessly with the 1st set, as it already has smooth curving walls.

How about some 2x2 lava pits with no stone showing. That way you could drop them into any of the other sets as small lava pits or lava rivers flowing through the room.

Those would combine well with a Hellscape piece that was all lava on at least 1 side. But since these pieces are all 4x4, we might need some other 2x2 pieces, with varying amounts of lava, to fill the space.

In addition to the Lava Fountain, you may also consider the Water pool, as well as the assorted pieces from the Lakes and Rivers Cavern sets and expansions. Those water hazards now become superheated or acidic, and those lumpy (not-sharp) stalagtites can be reinterpreted as geyserhead buildups, Cavern pieces with extensive Limestone flows can be recast as crusted over lava flowstone runs.

Indeed some 2x2 and 4x4 sections with full sides or sections filled with lava are needed in any HS2 concept. The Cracked Chasm Floor 4x6 can be reused here with a paintjob, and a 6x6 "Source Flow" lava vent/floor/pool combo would be fantastic.

Any of the existing Cavern Passages can be recast/repainted with lava replacing the puddled water rivulets.

Great idea! And this actually opens up an interesting possibility -- a way for DF to access a new revenue stream, as it were... repaints!

I think several existing cavern pieces could be re-packaged as a Hellscape expansion and a lot of us would gladly purchase them. Sure, some of us are handy with a paint brush and could probably re-fashion them ourselves. But most DF customers don't paint, or don't feel that they paint up to DF standards, and there'd definitely be an audience, I think, for that kind of thing. And while there would still be costs associated with producing such a set, they'd be a lot less than the cost of producing an entirely new set.

I think some of the Chasm set pieces would be great, the large chasm floor piece from the Fantasy Floor Set, and maybe the flat freestanding rock from the Cavern Set, maybe even some of the Cavernous Passage pieces.

Price is a tricky issue -- those of us who already have these sets might be more inclined to get the repaints if they were slightly cheaper, since the set wouldn't be entirely new. At the same time, there's no real reason for DF to provide an otherwise arbitrary discount to people who haven't already been buying cavern sets...

Maybe just pepper some "classic cavern" repaints into a Hellscape expansion as a kind of compromise.

I don't know -- do people hate this idea?
