Well...what do you think? I love Stefan's new 4" x 4" Intersection idea -- although he calls it something cooler.

And don't forget to post some set-up pics eventually! You guys do a much better job than I.

I got mine today, and I have to tell you, I'm VERY disappointed in the quality. There are floor pieces with cracked tiles, wall pieces with chunks missing, and one of my pieces even had a hole in it! What's going on in that factory?!?

Just kidding, guys. The pieces are gorgeous, and I'm looking forward to ROTA2!

I laughed so hard when I ready this. Nice, very nice. :)

My mother did the same thing when I got my first set of Smash-up-derbie cars. They come all dented and she just couldn't accept that fact. Strange that she could accept the fact that the whole point of the toy was to smash them into each other so all the doors and such would go flying off. Great fun!

Sorry, I realized I just derailed this thread. I'll delete is you want.

...Smash-up-derbie cars ...
I LOVED those !! And they doubled as great burned-out wrecks for my green army men to take cover behind !!!! See? ... A miniature gamer from the beginning :)

What's good?

The paint job is good. If I remember correctly, this line was supposed to have a bright pattern, like the bonus four-way intersection. While that would have looked great, I think the neutral tones are going to showcase miniatures much better; colorful minis are going to "pop" against this background. Additionally, the shading goes from darker at the bottom to lighter at the top; this gives our set-ups more depth.

The level of "distress" is good. This can pass for a very active, busy environment (showing wear and tear), or an abandoned area with some damage.

The wall piece with the smashed sun-face is good. With the consistent motif of happy sun-faces, the sudden absence of one really stands out. And it could be random decay, or intentional damage that serves as a clue in the GM's story.

The hole in the wall is good. This makes a great place for an ambush and/or spawn point (carrion crawlers, rat swarm, oversize insects, etc.). It's a great place to hide treasure or a trap (just reach inside, go on, I dare you). It can serve as a clue or a warning (I want to put a wand or staff on the floor, pointing at the hole, then watch the magic-users fight over it). And if you have more than one, you can let thieves, halflings, and gnomes crawl into one and come out the other, bypassing danger but isolating themselves from the big fighters.

The four-way intersections are good. (Did I even have to say that?) They are going to work in so many places. If you have enough walls and floors (two sets, at least) you can put one in the middle of a room to serve as a vault -- then the GM just has to decide how the doors open and what happens when they do. I favor either an elemental theme (each door has a different trap), a multiple-chances motif (four riddles or puzzles, four chances to get in), or each door might open into its own dimensional area (four doors = four treasures, but open more than one at the same time and chaos will ensue). I think there's also real potential for maze construction here, particularly if the walls disappear and reappear at random or in a preset pattern.

What's bad? The only thing I can think of is that there aren't enough pieces. But really, are there ever?

Just opened mine up and looked through a few pieces. A few quick, quick, quick thoughts -- and yes, I'll undoubtedly have more to say later, and a lot of pics.....

I went for the special promo intersection piece first... WOW. Pictures do not do it justice. It's so astoundingly detailed, both in sculpt and in paint. It's just breathtaking. I've been thinking of repainting some of my pieces to try to recapture some of the original intent for this set, but when I see this, I can really appreciate how daunting that's going to be. This is just amazingly detailed, tiny tiny tiny details. Really stunning to look at.

A few other thoughts...

The sun images on the frescoes are bigger than I expected. They look AMAZING. They have more depth, they're both larger in diameter and rounder than I anticipated.

The wall with the hole looks blasted away more than rotted. I suppose from the front it could be either, but from the back there are sharp, jagged cuts in the walls. This is not just age and natural forces wearing away the stone. Something or someone DID this.

The wall pieces slide in so seamlessly they look like they don't come out at all. They're gorgeous. The intersection pieces may be my favorite.

The whole thing may be the most detailed stuff DF has ever done, even more than DoE. It really looks like a fully realized palace in tiny, tiny, tiny dimensions. It's just everything I could have hoped for. Anyone who doesn't have it, you just can't appreciate it from pictures. It looks so stunning in person it just kills me.

The detail on this set is AMAZING !!!

What always floors me is, after months of drooling over enlarged pictures on the monitor, I finally get the pieces in my hand and, although I know they are a 2" module, I'm SO IMPRESSED and STUNNED at the level of detail on such relatively small pieces !!

Another win DF !!!! Thank you !!!!

And, if you need an interesting testament to the set, how about me falling asleep with mine ?!!!! Well, to be fair, I was watching a lame sci fi movie and I was only sitting at my desk ... it's not like I took the ROTA to bed with me like she was my blankie. Maybe tonight, though :D

Well I had a chance to look over mine when I got home.

Of course had to to go striaght for the Promo's first, the 2x2 Straight Wall with Medallion is very nice, the two different sides provide variety to layouts and possibilites with interactions with the terrain by players. But I am left wondering how the heck you got the medallion in there?

The wall inserts on the interesctions are stellar, I was a bit off on the intersections though as i for some reason thought they were 6x6, so all of my doodles on the set up i was going to build tonight are off, so will have to fix them later today. Still planning on doing one but well it will get modified a little. It could work out in the end to be a good thing as it will open up usage a number of peices i had tied up due to the mistake.. so have to re figure usage now.

Well can't wait to get home tonight to start setting this up.
