Huh ??? ....

Oh, I see it under "News" from 3/10 ... odd that it wasn't mentioned here on the forums for the die-hard fans.

Anyway, wasn't there a $10+/- increase just about a year ago ??

And don't the new "bow-tie-less" sets have a built-in re-tooling cost increase built into them? Will their costs get another increase?

And, Jeff, what do you mean by a "modest" increase ??

If American gas prices reflect a worldwide trend, then I understand completely why the cost has to go up. Heck, I understand it even if the rapidly rising gas costs are restricted to the US.

It's shipping, plain and simple. The cost of shipping is directly related to the cost of fuel. If fuel costs go up, shipping costs go up, and merchandise prices follow.

Every company has a profit margin that they MUST maintain or go out of business, and DF is no exception. While I agree that it is unfortunate that the price has to go up, expecting DF to keep their prices fixed while their costs go up is the same as expecting Stefan and Jeff to subsidize our hobby purchases out of their own pockets.

And I'm really happy that they have decided to make a "modest increase" -- they have chosen to maintain the high quality that DF has offered from day one, when they could just as easily have decided to change materials, reduce the number of colors in the painting process, and cheap out on production.

Keep in mind that it's NOT JUST shipping costs.
The resin that DF is made from is ALSO a petroleum-based product.
Can you say "OUCH!!"

I can - and did.

But I still buy the stuff - because so far, it's still worth it.

The coolest thing about DF stuff is that it will be around longer than you will! Spend a $100 on a set, use it for a lifetime, and then let your grandkids fight over it. Too cool.

I'd rather the creator survive than the DF; at least he can create MORE!

And YES, Stefan, that WAS buttering up the Artist, in hopes of more goodies! If it WORKS, it's worth it; if not, well, it doesn't hurt ME, and it's true anyway, so why NOT?
And you're right, too; any time I can drop a piece of DF on a concrete floor, with nothing but industrial carpet between the floor and the DF, and not break the DF, that says something about Polystone, doesn't it? And the DF didn't even chip, crack, shatter, bend, bounce, or ANYTHING! It just kinda fell, lay there, and looked up and me as if to say (if hard-cast resin could talk) "Well, aren't you going to step on me, or drop rocks - real rocks - on me, or do anything ELSE to me? Well then, PICK ME UP, STOOPID!" So I picked it up, brushed it off, and put it back in the styrofoam box where it belonged. Of course, this WAS in July, while packing the practice setup for Shore Leave, so maybe the warm temps had something to do with it. I've never dropped a piece outdoors in February after an overnight in the trunk of the car.

As bad as it sounds - for the international customer it is the shipping costs that really suck most. I need to check up if they went up as well - but otherwise the increase has the perverse effect that by paying more that still the feel good factor increases as the fraction payed to DF and not for shipping goes up.

Inversely - every time there is a special offer (rebate and not free extras) it feels worth when you look at shipping costs versus what you pay to DF and if it gets closer to the 1:1 mark.

So insanely as it sounds - no issues from my site with the increase ... (until I realize that Df increased by $10 and USPS increased by $20 ...)
