I cannot wait to see what you guys can come up with for the Chasm Set. Many creative layouts are possible. Have fun.

I'll have to wait until the weekend to play with it, but I did go through the box. I must say that I am VERY impressed by this set. It's going to take my Caverns to a new level - quite literally! Adding a vertical element will be great for my encounters.

I got my 2 Chasm sets yesterday from Jeff...unpacked them today but yes, will also wait till the weekend to build....also got my bowtie less sets in...will be useful in my new Campaign, especially the narrow passage and advanced builder sets look great without bow ties...but I see that cloth is a must underneath, black cloth for Chasms...

I actually went out and purchased a new dull black table cloth in anticipation of the arrival of my chasm sets....

Which arrived today along with my bonus cavern walls!!!

So cool! Got my two sets today, just opened them up. Haven't had time to set anything up, and don't know when I will (sadly) but I can say at least a LITTLE about them.

This really feels like the first cavernous wicked additions set -- these pieces do a great job of producing a more organic looking cavern, giving us more flexibility in how we set things up and more variety in how our caves look.

The pieces fit together BEAUTIFULLY, I love the way the rounded corner "fixes" the gaps produced by the old cavern corner piece, and I love the way the floor pieces create sudden "drops."

Most of all, though, I have to say, I absolutely adore the tall stalagmite decoration. I was expecting to like some of the other pieces more, but it just stands out as the centerpiece. AND I love how it looks stacked on the large floor "lump" piece. That, too, is a spectacular piece.

Very very cool stuff....

A black cloth for the chasm is a must, yes. I'm also inclined to try it with a reddish one which could be painted to look like lava. The chasm of fire!

The set looks very nice indeed. I can't wait to try a cavern set up now.

Oh, and one other thing -- for people with the HA cavernous accessories, they work WONDERFULLY with the new DF stuff. Specifically, the little "mushroom" piece and the large chunky floor plateau -- they both have large flat surfaces, and when you place the HA elements on top of them, it creates wonderfully funky, ornate decorative elements. The mushroom, in particular -- I placed a long stalagmite piece on top of it, and it made a kind of Dr. Seussian element, a large stalagmite with a sort of "ring" around it in the middle...! Very neat. Totally fantastical, not at all plausible, but quite cool to look at.

I'm really loving these pieces, I just wish I had time and space to take out all my cavern pieces and make something really big.

The only drawback I see so far: I'm still loving the water elements, and they don' t work as well with these, since these things like the stalagmites and stair elements don't go directly on water, and since I want to use the corner pieces to exploit the new gap filler, too, well, I would have to make a MASSIVE cavern to make use of all this stuff!

One other thing -- from just the tiny bit of playing around I've done, I've come to see the advantage of two sorts of pieces that weren't in this set. They aren't essential, but for future reference -- Cavern Wicked Expansion set might want to consider including these pieces....

1. A half-rock like the one at the top of the narrow "stairs" designed for use with the little bridge piece. As it stands now, you can only get a "seamless" bridge if you use the two ends -- but of course there are lots of platforms and higher places the bridge could go to WITHOUT that little piece (if you have a tiered setup, the bridge could go from the stair/pillar piece to just the floor of the second level). Without a little "half-rock" to blend it in, it just lies flat and makes a somewhat clunky break in the illusion.

2. A stalagmite column specifically designed as an "endcap" to place at the edge of a wall. Consider, for example: you use the cool floor "filler" pieces to integrate a corner piece into your cavern. But at the end of the corner, you don't place another wall piece, but an open floor piece. Now you've got a cavern wall that just ends, suddenly, in a straight line. It doesn't look BAD, per se, but it looks a little unnatural. What would be great would be a little piece you could put there to give it a more organic looking flow, something that drips out etc. to suggest that the natural cavern wall just ended there. (I realize that caverns wouldn't actually have "walls" that end like that, anyway, and certainly nothing this thin... but it feels more right than having a straight wall that just .. stops...)

Small little suggestions, but things that occurred to me. What do you say, cavern fans? Would these be welcome, or am I just being picky?

Still need those waterfalls...including perhaps one with a cave/tunnel entrance underneath. Anyway what is really needed is a good way to transition the water level on (planned) multi-level cavern setups.
