I just thought I'd point out that the DoE Room set looks so stunning that I went and bought a DoE expansion set, which I had not planned on doing.

Don't get me wrong, the set always looked cool to me. But while I loved the big pit, I wasn't as crazy about the dragon arches, or the purple on the pillars. Really, the set seemed cool, but nothing about it made it ESSENTIAL, and with my collection growing by leaps and bounds, something had to give. I was on the border with it -- tempted, but realized that I couldn't afford/store EVERYTHING, so I resisted.

I mean, I had all my old dungeon and cavern sets, and then some new River sets, the Lake set, the MBS set, and all the MBS sets for the future -- plus more McFarlane dragons coming, and I collect SW stuff, and on and on and on.

Something had to go, and DoE seemed like a candidate.

But -- you know that "nothing made it ESSENTIAL" remark? That DoE wall in the Room Set is one of the coolest things I've seen DF produce, and certainly the greatest DoE item IMHO. That meant I had to get it. The flaming cauldrons and the evil red book made it the perfect set. And then... suddenly .. where are my stairs? My curved walls? My big pit? Yeah, suddenly my DoE collection seemed far too incomplete.

So I don't know what this is gonna do to me in the future. There will be a Water Expansion set, there will be more MBS sets, there will be more and more and more. But darn it, the DoE stuff all just got a huge leg up from this set. So yeah, I picked up the WA set for DoE.

THAT is how you market, man! You just make product so great that the rising tide raises all boats, as they say.

Agreed!

It seems that a line, (DOE in this case) really comes into it's own once there are at least three "building" sets to it.

Thank you very much L for your positive comments on the new 6" wall, honestly, I didn't know wether I would recieve ridicule or praise and decided that I would probably get an even amount of both...either way, I was determined to just do what seemed kool to me...funny thing is, my mother really loves the Den of Evil...isn't that a gas?
Anyway, I am very pleasantly surprised and gratified that we have recieved mostly positive response on the far out designs and concept. Because of these continued praises and success we have been able to extend a line that really was originally supposed to be a one set project.

Thank you to everybody!

I completely agree with L!

I had left the DoE WA because there was too much pieces I don't really needed, and that I could use at the same time with the few room pieces there was in my only DoE Room and Passages Set.

Now the DoE Room set is out.. now I Need the WA! And I've purchased it all... only one of each but hey! that's already a good sized Evil Dungeon!

Really, really, well done!

Stefan,
You have a definite winner with your DoE set here. ALthough I have been aware of DF for a while, it was not until DoE that I was convinced to jump on the bandwagon. I'm glad you have decided to continue developing the line, as each of the new sets is making the line more versatile. In fact, that is about the only fantasy DF I actually own at the moment, although with the new offerings, I will be picking up the MBS and its expansion as well :)

The team at DF are amazing in what they churn out! Keep up the great work !! :)

On the same line, the die hard supporters of DF are amazing as well. Watching all the set ups, as well as some of the custom work that have been created by the fans.

Starting to ramble now........ :)

Got to get back to the Evil Dungeon :)

Stefan,

Although I may have said this on another post I wanted to reiterate my point and it seems like mostly others as well. When DOE first came out I purchased 1 set to get the certificate and have a set for collection. I never used it for gaming. When the DOE WA came out I decided that I did not need it. When this new DOE Room set came out with your Far Out Masonic Wall I was like, Dude I have to get this set and expand my other DOE sets. So now after the other day I have a total of 2 DOE, 2 DOE WA, and 2 DOE Room sets. That is a good starting point. I will most likely use these for the climatic end to most of my dungeons so I may not need as many as the regulars but now that I am going to be using them I may change my mind. We have a game on the 25th of Feb. coming up and I plan on having 1 DOE room. (Sad that is all that I will have on the 25th) Anyway you guys are hitting a HOME RUN!!!! Keep up the good work.

Stefan;

Art begets art; creation begets creation. You ARE a Creative Artist; go Beget Creative Art.

Most of us here on the Forum (the ones with enough brains to rub two D20 together and start a Game) know that creativity comes in bursts; we don't expect you to do a new line, or a new set, on a daily basis. That's why we APPRECIATE what you do, when you do it. And we also know that you DO have other artistic interests besides DF (we've seen the pics you've posted of other artwork you've done).
We also know that sooner or later (GOD, please let it be later!) you'll hit a slump and nothing will work the way you want it to. Our only hope there is that it's a temporary slump and you get over it, and past it.
As long as you are trying to keep up this kind of work, you'll get a lot of understanding, and a LOT of slack (as in, cut me a little slack here!) from us.
No, you can't please all the gamers, all the time; but you've done a LOT betteer than SOME companies we all could name (even if not all of us would name the same company!). Hey, if we didn't LIKE DF, d'ya think we'd buy it?

In short, keep up the good work. We're behind you all the way.

Agree with all of the above.

However, I do have one small tiny "complaint" about the new DOE room set:

I would rather have had 1 eye/masonic wall and one "regular" 6 inch wall instead of 2 masonic walls in this set. This way, when i finally get two DOE room sets, I would have had 2 x aweseom eye walls and 2 x regular walls rather than 4 x crazy eye walls.

More useful with 1 regular long wall and 1 eye wall IMHO.

Bit of trivia: the word "Synergy" was popularized by inventor/philosopher Buckminster Fuller. "Bucky" was a professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL, the "halfquarters" of Dwarven Forge.

Bit more trivia: I just made up the word "halfquarters" (half of the headquarters).

More useful with 1 regular long wall and 1 eye wall IMHO.
Objectively, I think you're right. A regular 6" wall would be pretty neat, even if it were indistinguishable from a wall made of three regular wall pieces. It would be useful. The "eye" wall is so unusual, you don't want to overdo it, and anyone stocking up on Room Sets is going to have more than they need, and no regular long walls at all.

HOWEVER... I have to say, I'm glad they went the way they did. The fact is, for those of us who only picked up 1 room set, it's really nice to have two of those cool walls. I wouldn't want to have to get two sets for that, and now I don't. Plus, the Room Set still gives you some regular wall pieces, and anyone that heavily into DoE probably has a few R&P sets lying around as well. As has been discussed elsewhere, the three DoE sets seem to fit together pretty well, so that if you have 1 of each, you will have exactly the right number of elements to build an average layout -- the right number of walls, of floors, etc. It may take slightly longer to build larger rooms without a "shortcut" long wall, but it should be possible.

I mean, I can see the argument that this piece is somewhat like the mermaid fountain for the dungeon crowd -- a cool setpiece, but not the sort of thing that needs to be in every room, or in fact, in more than 1 room at all. For that reason, it's hard to see the need to have even TWO of it, let alone more, and if the room set only had 1, why would those of us who only bought one set feel like we were missing out on anything?

But the starfield and everything makes this feel like a slightly more common piece to me -- like the heart of the DoE chambers would find this design repeatedly, as the boundaries between the planes is blurred more and more.

I don't know. I see your point, but I'm giddy to have two of these, so I still am glad they did it the way they did...

Once again, Thank you so much everyone for your support!
I must add that the original concept for the DOE came from Jeff's end, and that I only added criticism's (sometimes harsh) during it's inception without actually offering any concrete designs of my own until recently...In fact, the Wall, Fire Pot and Book are my only sole creations...credit for the overall concept and original wall design (and trapped souls theme) should go to Jeff and his Gang...

Harneloot, I can see the point about having lots of "eye" walls...however, consider this: two sets would allow a room with all 4 walls which in my symetrically inclined brain would be just right...but then again, you could place them face to face and create a "corridor of planes" leading to...something else...or...you could make a rectangular room with 6 such walls...or two twin rooms...anyway, i thought it would be better to err on the more plentiful side rather than the less plentiful side here...I think this line, the DOE line, is really just coming into it's own actually, and that there will be some more mysterious and evil things to add to it in the future...
