I love my rivers and mbs. I had forgotten (or never known) that I'd get a furniture and accessories set and was pleasantly surprised at that. The MBS pieces especially are nice... really nice.

I only have one complaint. I'd prefer it if the cases came completely enclosed in a cardboard box, instead of having the top box exposed to the elements of shipping.

Other than that, keep up the good work! I should have tiles done for MBS fairly soon. From an Illustrator perspective, it's pretty easy, much easier than the lakes and rivers.

I think it totally depends on other things if that happens or not.

My 1 MSB and random elements from Caverns was in a box completly enclosed.

My Lake set (2 of them) were just tie rapped together and shipped that way.

My 2 Rivers were similar to what you describe, but mine was open on top and bottom (there were no things like cavern bits or furnitire so the didn't need a bottom), but wrapped by cardboard...

So i guess it varries on what you order to some degree how enclosed it will be.

I think what I'm saying is that I'd pay $5 more on shipping to have it completely and securely enclosed. These arrived fine, fortunately (expect for the mass amount of tape on the top box) but I've had packages arrive before at my house that have tire tracks on them. 8-)

The Cavernous Lake set was the first of mine to arrive with the top box exposed and taped to a lower cardboard box. I was a bit displeased about this as well, though fortunately no damage was incurred other than tape stuck to my top Lake box.

I'd also prefer that future shipments be fully enclosed in an outer cardboard box, as my previous sets were.

I have to agree. I received only a single lake set and that wasn't shipped in a box at all. My "custom storage" box now has the UPS shipping pocket stuck to it, 2 other random UPS stickers and many scuffs, dings and a severely crushed corner (the foam inserts did a great job protecting the pieces, though - no damage at all). The set is great but my box is crap !!

Yeah. When I first started buying DF I was also surprised at the lack of outside packaging by the shipping company. At the time, I did not realize this was an Outside Shipping company and thought it was DF trying to save some bucks. I wasn't too pleased that a few boxes had slight rips, scuff marks, and dirt on them, but I have always been pleased that the inside packaging has always held up and there has never been any damaged pieces due to rough shipping issues. Perhaps this is the shipping company saving some dollars or not having boxes just the right size. Perhaps it is also DF who, in trying to keep prices down, has not insisted that each shipment be sent within a cardboard box. To me, as well as the host of people above in this post, I would normally think of the box the pieces are in as part of the purchase, and, therefore, something that should be protected.

Hey, not harping on you DF guys. Just adding to the customer feedback. I haven't really had a reason to bring this up, but since it has been brought up, I thought I'd chime in to let you know pfworks is not alone in his expectations.

62 sets and counting. In addition, a boatload of individual pieces or sets of pieces.

Also to add, since I am hoping never to resell my DF, the box itself has become less of an issue for me. As long as the pieces are intact, I'll live. ;) Thanks for ensuring the inside styrophome (sp) is so protective.

My two new MBS came in one larger outer box. The inner boxes were in pristine condition. I live in the US.

We are looking into buying our own pre-printed shipping boxes -- with an ultra cool DF logo on the side. I want to improve the condition our sets when they arrive at your door.

More info in about a week.

Jeff's response is why I love DF so much. He actually listens to our concerns and acts on them (even ones that may seem minor to some people). The packing method is something that has irked me a bit as well since the packing tape almost never peels away cleanly.

The odd thing to me is that sometimes the shipping company seems very inconsistent in how they decide to package things. I've had sets show up in at least 4 different packing 'styles':

1. Fully contained in a box that is sized for the contents
2. Fully contained in a box that has been cut and folded down to size
3. Exposed top (the topic of this thread)
4. Exposed top and bottom (with effectively a cardboard 'sleeve' around the sets)

It's almost like it has depended on who is working at the shipping company that day, or what scraps of cardboard happen to be lying around...

Thanks for taking care of us Jeff! :)

I guess I've been lucky; except for a Traps II set (L-o-n-g time ago!), all my DF stuff that was shipped came in an outer box, as well as the familiar inside white boxes containing the styrofoam cases. That means that I get my whites in pristine condition.

I've often thought that a flat spot on the end or long side of each styro case would allow me to stick a label there with an ID on it, such as DR Tray 1, R&P Tray 2, Cav Tray 1, etc. That would allow me to ditch the white boxes and still keep the sets safely in styrofoam. And THAT would mean more storage space under the gaming table!
Oh, well.

See ya!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention guys. I actually had no idea our products were getting shipped in this way with box sides being exposed. From what I am gathering it is not an isolated incident from some frantic or new shipper during a sudden onslaught...I will look into the matter. This should not be the norm.
