The Taxman didn't catch my MBS!!! 8 Years, 3 Months ago
Hi everybody!

Well, in fact I'm late posting this news, but I've been on vacation and I didn't have time to write this long post until now.

I'm so happy!!! The custom taxman took my Lake Set, and I made the process to receive it before I leave away on holidays. I was back last friday, and on saturday I could go to the post office to take my Lake Set and... I was so excited! but... hey! it did went better! in my inbox at home I had a notification to take my MBS in the post office directly! Custom did let it pass without catching it!!!

So, I almost opened both new sets at the same time (that I had only seen in pics until then!) wooooow!!! I think I will never have a time like that with DF... Lakes and MBS at the same time!!!

Congratulations Stefan, it has been an amazing piece of art. So beautiful, full of easter eggs, details, great re-use, the number of pieces of each type in the sets... what a perfect work!!!

Well, other theme: Now, I have in front of me the 3 post office documents of shipping for my River & Walls sets (that came with several DF figures and a couple of individual pieces), The Lake Set (With a bunch of individual pieces) and the MBS Set (That came with... 1 Advanced builder set!!! and another bunch of individual pieces!!!)

Now guess.... which one had NOT been taken on custom by the taxman?? The third last one!!! The heaviest of them all!!! It's the bigger box, the heaviest, and it has not been stoped to pay tax. Why?

Well, the 3 packages where identified as parlor games (in fact, the first one with parlor, and the other two as parlour).

The first and the 3 said that the stuff came from China, so it can't be that point that makes the difference.

The 3 are "merchandise", and same type of shipping.

I've studied carefully every other info in the documents and I can't find out what to say about the secret of the 3rd package reaching my post office without paying taxes.

So... I can't know what has been the secret of success with the 3 package, unless is that in custom they already know my name and can't stand another box for me without going crazy... ;-)

I think that custom is a lotto...

Good luck to all!!!

Another reasons we only use USPS Global Express is because it seems that there is a greater chance to avoid VAT and other fees when shipping via that method. I don't have any concrete facts, and I am sure it varies from locale to locale, but the general concensus from the various shippers which I have spoken is that sometimes stuff sent USPS Global Express does not get flagged for additional fees. I hope that everyone gets lucky with their next order!

Uh-UH, Aragon!

I've stated my views here before, and my backside is STILL burning from the royal CHEWING-OUT I got from so MANY Euro-citizens about taxes, tariffs, and import duties!
IF you want to light-off a flame-war here, YOU are going to get caught holding the matches; I already have MY third-degree burns! Besides, Jeff and Doug might get REAL SORE at me if I do THAT again.

Now, at least 50% of what I just wrote is in jest, but there IS at least a grain of truth in there; folks here seem to get VERY defensive about taxes, nationalities, and governments. And suggestions of how to change the problem just make it worse!

I just don't think it's asafe debate right now.

Gotta go, Boss called with a rush job!

arsthein;

May I hand your leg back, and Aracon's also?
While I HAVE been flamed in the past ON THIS FORUM for speaking against unfair Euro-fees that YOU GUYS have to put up with, I was (and I thought I made it fairly clear) actually kidding Aracon about restarting the flame-wars, etc.
I think it deplorable what European DF buyers suffer from VAT, Duties, etc. BUT, that is YOUR problem, and the ballot box is the only way to settle the matter.
And THAT is, as far as I am concerned, the LAST WORD on the subject.

As far as any upset feelings on the part of either arsthein or Aracon, I will apologize for unintentionally upsetting anyone; MY intent was that I will not get back into that debate; you guys can argue all you want.

See ya!
