Sci-Fi Set News!

Sale Ends Sunday!

This is your last chance to pick up some of our Sci-Fi sets at 50% off retail -- only $25 each! On Monday, the price will go up to 25% off or $37.50 each. Get your orders in now to take advantage of this awesome sale.

Sci-Fi Beta Set Coming in February!

While exact details are still sketchy, we are proud to announce that the long-awaited Sci-Fi Beta set will finally be here in February of 2006. Due to customer feedback, we are going to make this set a better value by putting it inside one of our normal, white, 1-tier boxes. This will allow us to include a lot more pieces for less money. We don't sell sets in stores anymore, so the packaging is not as crucial. We are passing the savings on to our customers. The exact composition of the set is still in flux, but included pieces will be one or more of: a Curved Passage Piece, a Curved Corner Piece, a Curved Floor Piece, a semi-transparent forcefield door insert, a Straight Wall (with porthole), a Computer Panel, and some cool extras like tables, chairs and other furnishings. More details should be posted within a few weeks. Thanks for all your great feedback.

Cavernous Water Set

Also, February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set". It is still being sculpted, but it will be a must have for any cavern-loving gamer. It features some very ingenious designs by sculptor Stefan Pokorny. It will be a 2-tier set like the other cavern-themed sets.

Other Developments

Finally, <whew!> we are proud to announce that due to the overwhelming response to the Den of Evil (Room and Passage) Set that we have started work on the Den of Evil (Wicked Additions) Set -- which should be here in time for summer 2006. It will feature some awesome pieces that will allow you to customize your Den of Evil set ups. The sketches I have seen so far are amazing. Your set-ups can now include raised platforms (with stairs), an awesome entry archway, and many room accessories to properly attire each chamber. More details should be posted around Halloween.

Oh...and the summer of 2006 will also see the release of a set gamers have been begging for from the beginning. More details next time.

Great news!

So, what's the set that we've all been waiting for? Any speculations?

I think we all know what the most important moment of this newsletter is. No offense to the fans of Sci-Fi who have been waiting for news on furnishings and accessories... but what we really have been waiting for was this:

Also, February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set".

February.

Will see the release of the Cavernous Water Set.

Also, February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set".

If I may quote from my favorite absurdist atonal German opera, Wozzeck: "It's strangely still and close -- so close your breathing seems to stop...."

Also, February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set".

:o

February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set"!

February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set"!

February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set"!

February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set"!

February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set"!

February will see the release of the "Cavernous Water Set"!

:D

My guess is either the Wizards Den or the Pub/Bar...

i think those are ones i hear people talking about wanting alot, but then these are my random attempt at a guess... what are the things every one asks for (besides the water set ;) )?

Yeah, I was thinking "wizard's den," myself. I know I've wanted proper bookshelves for AGES, so I could make a whole library... not to mention all the other great wizard accessories that are possible. It's the top on my list, after the Cavernous Water set, of course.

Now, when's that due out again....?

My guess is that the "what you've been asking/waiting for" is the tavern that everybody kept saying they wanted.

Either that or it's the Barny Dungeon of Laughs I asked for originally.

rofl... just kidding.

Whatever the item is, I am betting it is something for Fantasy MM.
That would be disappointing, at least for me.
Oh well, life is that way sometimes.
All you fantasy people had better enjoy it though; I would not want it to be a waste of DF resources.

Thank you admin for the news on SF MM.
It raised some questions though.

So SF Beta will be coming out in February rather than mid-March as you had announced early this Summer?
Earlier than the prior announcement will be nice.

Correct me if I am wrong, Beta, in list form, has:
1+ Curved Passage
1+ Curved Corner
1+ Curved Floor (4x6?, 6x6? - what size?)
1+ forcefield door insert (no frame?)
1+ Straight Porthole Wall (2"?)
1+ Computer Panel (hopefully not the SteamPunk one I saw in the one promo pic, please have it more high tech looking)
?+ SF furnishings - tables, chairs, etc. unknowns.

Can there be two-to-three more complete SF door assemblies in this set please?
There just is not enough doors in the SF sets for a SF setting.
Either that or make the SF doors available for purchase as a separate item.
Maybe even a set of six or so as well that can be purchased on the WEB page.

Can we please have floor insets that would also turn the sides of the "x", "t" and "l" passages into rooms?
It is great that you are providing the one needed for the curved passage, but we need these others as well.

A gantry with stairs, not ramps, would be great as well.
Almost all SF settings have vehicles of some variety to repair so this would be a very useful item.

I am looking forward to further word on this set.
I am VERY glad it will be white box set!

On to another matter - Cavern MM

At last another Cavern Set is coming out.
About time DF!
This is a great genre y'all have done MM for and it looks great.
It just needs a lot to make it really useful and this proposed set is a great start to taking care of this need.

So, despite this set not currently being finished with pre-production (sculpting), it will be ready for sale from China in February?
That would be great, but is that actually a viable turnaround time with Christmas between now and then?
I hope it is, but that seems to be a bit tight timewise.

Anyway, I am looking forward to February with much anticipation.
Here's hoping the month's releases are all that we could want - at least within reason.

I had that same thought -- seems awfully soon compared to the pattern established by other sets. We usually have pics and info with a longer lead time than this.

However, I take all release dates from DF with a grain of salt. I'm not exactly planning on clearing space on my shelves in January for this....
Still, I also know that DF has been pretty reticent until they feel the time is right, so if they announce Feb, they must know something we don't. Even if there's a delay, it certainly means this set is closer to release than it ever has been before -- sounds like it will be here by next summer, at least, which is fine with me. With everything else on the horizon -- SF beta and DoE -- my budget won't mind waiting ....

As good a spot as any to make a request for Beta.

There is one thing i know i would love for Beta, and i think it is something the Sci-Fi Fans can really use. If this showed up in Beta i Know i would be getting more of both these and the Alpha set.

The Alpha set has two large Floors with 6 inch sides to them, one a 6 inch square, the other a 4x6. I know if Beta came with at Least 1 6 inch long wall, i would snap up a BUNCH of these to make some rooms out of the Alpha, the big floor space really cries out for a 6 long wall. 2 in a set would rock, but i really would like to have a 6 long.

Some one who recently bought a bunch of Sc-Fi DF for his SW games boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=7222028&s=b4a9de46bfaa386d8e489018c23a02b9&
has expressed intrest in them as well.

The Wicked Addations set two for Fantasy for had two 6x6 floors, and some long walls, Alpha had the Floors for Sci-Fi now we need some long walls. Just a thought.

I agree with Ghenghis Ska that 6" walls are really needed to make the most of the 6" floors.
It would be great if they could be added with the other items in my earlier posting this thread.
