To Stefan or Jeff,

The paint job on the lava set in regards to the coloring of the stone (the floor and walls not the lava) does the color scheme of the stone match the cavern sets stone? How well will the lava set and the cavern set match if put together?

I really do like the lava set, now all I have to do is come up with the money for 2 sets of them Hmmmmm.

Brian

The Hellscape Sets are slightly different in color than the traditional Cavern Sets, they are an ashen grey, sort of a cooled Lava stone....

This is because the Hellscape is really a new landscape in itself, any character walking on the Hellscape will start to take damage unless properly protected from intense heat. The ground should burn through regular shoes or boots within 1 round, and then cause 1-3 points of damage a round....the very air within the hellscape will burn the lungs and set scrolls and easily flamable items on fire.....

For transition to other environments, in the set, there are little "Lava flow" pieces, very thin, which are meant as transition pieces from the Hellscape to any other type of Set. Basically, you can place them on top of whatever other set you decide to place next to the Hellscape...you should place them so that it looks like the cooled "lavaflow" has seeped unto the other environment...sort of like the "blob" from that old sci-fi movie....I figured that this method would be more flexible, so that any opening can, in effect be a "transition" piece. The 4" Long wall piece can be mainly used with the 4x4 floor piece to create what I call "edge walls" which is basically just the outside walls of whatever Hellcave you create...by using the 2" wall instead you can create an entrance/exit in or out of the Hellcave (remember to place the seeping "Lavaflow" as an ominous "placemat"........

It's of limited utility for the sort of games I DM, but it is an impressive "showcase piece" and probably very useful for modern style D&D.

Stefan: I'm seconding Dudebird's invitation. You've earned a vacation...maybe one on a planet orbiting the "Most Evil Star in the Sky?" All the fermented demon centipede flesh and synthetic prostitutes you could ever dream of!

Great stuff gentlemen. Thank you.

Stefan, thank you for clarifying what happened to the missing post that had some people riled (technical difficulties; or lack of brother... :)). Some people tend to forget that this is a small "family"-type company and not a huge conglamorate with a server room full of geeks. Yes; it's disappointing when we're told to expect something at a particular day and/or time and then not to receive it, but I think you guys have more than earned a little leeway and understanding from your customers for all that you do for them.

Hurrah for the new set. A fantastic job. The pictures make the lava seem so vibrant. Wow. My favorite piece is the large "volcano." Beatiful.

The Hellscape Sets
Ok you said it Stefan. ^^
How much hellescape sets are on 3 ? 4 ?

I won't buy the hellscape set until another is released (like I did for the doe & rota ones) since this very first set is too basic to my adventures & set ups.
I guess you've planed great additional things to make us buy, a lava lake, tiny islands lost into a fire sea, dangerous bridges crossing the hell and exploding magma balls ?

So when do you plan to release the other sets ?

Plz let us know X-MAS is close, I already know I will have a ROTA entrance + a hellscape set and I would like to buy more new things to complete this damned package !!

I think that makes sense, and I also think that the lava effect will "pop" more against a darker backdrop -- it would look a lot less cool if the stones were the same color as the cavern sets. Black -- or at least dark grey -- with red looks more aggressive and cool. And makes it more of a distinct setting!

At the same time, for people who WANT this to work with the cavern sets -- remember that the intense heat and direct proximity to molten lava is going to scorch the rock -- there's no reason to expect that it COULD look just like the rest of the cavern, even if it is a volcanic, as opposed to extra-planar, environment. While it would be great to have some kind of transitional pieces so the shift isn't too abrupt, I do think this set would work "with" the cavern sets despite not being exactly the same color...

Sigh. This was an instant, I want it, there goes my creditcard moment:-)
RotA was not quite to my tastes but these look really nice, and with some creativity will fit in nice with my pile of caverns.

Next up: ice?

Join the club FritsK, I just had one of those moments also LOL. So I wonder if this set will be a stand alone or will there be other sets like it. (like DoE) "add-on" set? Everyone have a great weekend!

I'm totally going to be doing that once I have my set. And I have one of the original, bow-tie'd lava fountains, so I'm going to use green stuff to create little "drain spout" things over the triangular holes, as I assume they'll line up evenly with the lava streams. That way, it will look like the lava stream goes into some kind of mechanism inside the fountain and generates its flow. Hopefully.

I've been silent since GenCon, when Stefan graced me with a sneak peek at the set. I was duly impressed then, and remain so now.

Hellscape rocks!
