I hope these photos show you our plans for the RotA line. It is going to be very cool!

And now that we have two RotA Sets (1 and 2) we are going to sit down and start design work on the third and last RotA Set. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

And I hope everyone has a great holiday.

(And don't forget to game! I am playing the old AH game "Third Reich" next week on a super-cool enlarged steel-backed map with magnetic counters. Ah...the college years...)

I'm thinking of the Traps Set, with the swinging walls. Something like that for RotA would be great. Heck, why not traps for RotA? It screams out for Indiana Jones style pitfalls, Malayan gates, etc.

Fountains, Treasures, columns and/or ruined columns(maybe second set), water pieces for a room filled with water? or public bath, vine covered stone alter (THis would be a first for DF), a pit trap, a broken tiles floor piece that looks similar to the chasm ledge pieces, a quicksand 4 inch trap(edges ROTA center sprial circle sand similar to the water whirlpool but sand), transpiece between ROTA and Caverns, odds and ends building pieces similar to other sets (curve pieces, half pieces, diagonal pieces), and last but not least maybe built-in thrones attached to a dais?

A pool or fountain, perhaps with a silvery substance in it instead of water or lava.

A cracked floor (similar to the one in the Fantasy Floor Set).

Stairs down?

DoE has fire pots -- RotA might have crystals on posts or stands or wall sconces.

A dead end short passage, as in Wicked Additions 2.

A 4"x4" boat landing or steps into water designed to transition RotA to Cavernous Lakes.

Throne on dais.

A big box with a lid -- doubles as an altar or a treasure repository.

Something big and mysterious. Maybe a thick round column with symbols inscribed on rings, maybe a big cube or d8-shape set on one corner with runes on the upper faces, maybe a jackal holding a sun-face (figure THAT one out, players!), maybe a big tablet with flowing script all running together (as if forming or melting away), maybe a mosaic globe floating above the floor (on a clear plastic post).

WOW!! I LOVE the staircase pieces! And that entrance! Oh, and I noticed that bit about 4! new sets this year. Must start saving for the inevitable purchases!

...At the risk of being the party pooper on ROTA 2...

While I love the entrance piece, my concern with ROTA 2, ironically, is that entrance piece. You see, I set up large layouts and when a large specialty piece (that you;ll really ever need nor more than 1 or 3 at the most) is in a set, it makes getting multiples of the other items (such as a dozen rubble piles) quite impractical. This has been an issue of mine for the DOE stuff (not enough straight passages and NO 6" passages), Cavern Rivers (all I need are straight river pieces and to get each 3 I pay over $40 each tile because I'm never going to use that many 4-way river intersections!)

So while I really like the direction this set is heading, I'll be limited in ROTA 2 purchases because I don't need 6 of those entrance pieces but could certainly use a bunch of those rubble piles...

For me, it was the trap sets -- I could've used lots of arrow slits, but I didn't need multiple instances of most of the pieces that came with them.

I see your point, and I agree, although I also understand why it is impractical to sell individual pieces or sets of only one (or three) particular pieces.

And while it is a fantastic looking entrance, I probably won't want more than two of them. A dungeon entrance can only be a dungeon entrance, and can only be on the outside edge of a setup. However, when individual sales are not possible (as discussed elsewhere in the forum), each piece has to be included in one set or another, or it never sees the light of day.

I can rationalize multiple entrances a couple of ways. There can be multiple entrances to the dungeon, and each one can be made different using other outdoor terrain accessories. Put two of them back to back to form an arch (religious or cultural significance, or a mystical gateway?), or put four of them around an intersection to put a little temple or shelter in an outdoor setup. There might be multiple exits from the dungeon that are identical in appearance, but actually open into different worlds.

Multiple 4-way river intersections might be put next to each other to represent an underground marsh, or as irrigation for mushroom farming.

As for the DoE straight and 6" passages, I think that is meant to be part of the environment. The path of evil is twisted, and the passageways of the DoE reflect that by having lots of turns and intersections but few straight hallways. RotA also seems to have fewer passage pieces, apparently favoring open spaces that neighbor each other. These are also limited editions that are being restricted to three sets each, so hard choices had to be made and some pieces had to be left out.

And I like that each set is not just a cosmetic change to the same shapes, but will have different configurations based on the number of each type of piece, and the presence (or absence) of pieces unique to that set.

I would like to say how much I really like the double doors and the grand staircase pieces. I especially like the double doors with the open/cut-off top section and, of course the decorative design a well. Both truly FANTASTIC!

Although unlikely, it would be nice if the MM line were to get similar/equivalent pieces in the foreseeable future.

I'm glad you like the doors, I designed them with the top section "open" so that it would be easier to place miniatures inside the door frame...in particular, large sized minis.....he,he,he...

Here are some images of possible uses/designs for the stairs...these were not intended for the forums...just for my own reference..so please excuse the raw, unpainted/half painted pieces...but i think it shows some of the possibilities...
