Well, Dwarven Forge adepts, you have finally crushed my resistance. For many years I have been very strong, and every time a new Dwarven Forge product appeared and my wallet leapt unbidden out of my pocket onto the table, I gritted my teeth, thought about the long term, thrust the beauty of your work into a dim corner of my mind, and put away my credit card.

Saw the sketch of the Realm of the Ancients short corridor piece. I am lost, LOST, I tell you !

I can no longer resist. I will preorder several as soon as it is possible.

Good work !

Welcome!

I just got some Sci-Fi and my wife was asking what the heck was that. All I said was "DF" and she just rolled her eyes and went up stairs. :) There is no getting n the way of this addiction....

I do not even have any sci-fi type games I can use it with...so not sure of my goal except to HAVE some of the pieces.

Thanks for the welcome - - - I think - - -

(Why do I faintly hear people chanting "one of us, one of us" ?)

Really hope DF paints the set in a sandstone or red-brown rather than the overused dark gray stone. Would make RotA really distinctive. Whattaya think the chances are?

Dunno, Chick. On the one hand, sandstone would be a really good choice for visual purposes - it fits a wide variety of settings, and so could function for Mayan temples, Egyptian ruins, etc.

On the other hand, a sandstone color would not fit with existing Master Maze, so the transition would be abrupt.

Still, it could readily work. Imagine opening a secret door or sliding wall and finding either a cavern or worked stone dungeon on the other side. Just as the Cavern set has a transition piece that goes to dungeon stone, an Ancients piece that transitions to cavern would be very cool.

Heh chick, welcome to the club.

You've entered at a great time... no more bow ties and some awesome sets coming our way...

I do second the hope for sandstone or red-brown. I'm sure a good transition piece could allow for a different color than yet more greys...

Chick,

When DF Madness gets really bad, you start working Cons for DF so you can buy more DF! You find yourself ignoring all the Con gaming your friends are doing, and all you can think about is the new set-ups you can do with your new DF stuff.

BTW, I think you will be happy...

I too have been stricken with DF-itis for the past decade or so. Even with a whole room full of the stuff, the desire for more never goes away.

As for RotA, I'm hoping for a look and color closer to the way the Roman Colosseum looks. Sort of a washed out whitish grey. Perfect for making a Gladiator Arena (hint, hint). I always thought the Colosseum was largely made of marble, but it's actually travertine.

From Wikipedia:
"The largest building in the world constructed largely of travertine is the Colosseum in Rome. Travertine is one of several natural stones that are used for paving patios and garden paths. It is sometimes known as travertine limestone, sometimes as travertine marble; these are the same stone, even though it is neither limestone nor marble. The stone is characterised by pitted holes and troughs in its surface. Although these troughs occur naturally, they suggest to some eyes that considerable wear and tear has occurred over many years. Some installers use a grout to fill these holes, whereas others leave them open — travertine can even be purchased "filled" or "unfilled." It can be effectively polished to a smooth, shiny finish and comes in a variety of colors from grey to coral-red".

See you all at Gen Con!

Well, I guess that settles that. Sandstone or red-brown, huh? Hmmm... I'm gonna guess sandstone, but that may be wholly irrational, based just on the early speculation that this would be an Egyptian setting. Perhaps if Egypt loomed large in the back of someone's mind, it made sense to do this set in sandstone... hmmm.....

Interesting, interesting....
