Stefan,

I am so happy for you and your family. I am sorry for your loses. While this does not compare to what you went through, when I was a kid our house burned down in the middle of winter with us outside watching it burn. I ended up getting frost byte on my feet or close to it I guess. As a result I always keep a pair of shoes and pair of pants with a sweatshirt or something close to the bed in case of emergency. It is amazing how much our lives are changed by events. I hope your father is also doing well. At his age this was quite the experience. Again good luck with everything.

Wow... Natural Twenty indeed, close call there!

I had no idea about this [thread] until just now when I logged in after a few days of being offline...

I am very happy to hear that you and yours are well...*Wipes Brow*... It may sound silly but if you folks decide that you need a break from the chaos, happen to be heading to Florida, and are not scared of rabid fans... Well, we've got floor space and extra blankets! *Woot*...

Seriously though, it is good that you and your family are safe... Good thoughts from Florida coming your way man!

maj!

Good to hear that you are okay. The news even made it here to the BBC news pages - but I didn't pay attention at that time. Seems this accident was really bad. And just glad you made the saving throw after the crane botched his that badly.

The only other time a crane crush was close to myself or someone I know was at University. They were building the biology buildings next to chemistry - and one of the huge construction cranes toppled over. Not sure sizewise how it compared - it was a big one as well.

Luckily at that incidence the crane itself made his saving throw. It toppled on to the Phys Chem department - and didn't crash down. It was leaning there in a 60 degree angle - but the building withstood the impact. The only one hurt was the crane driver - but even he made it out without serious injuries - apart of shock.

Now looking at the news in NY I understand why the evacuated the whole lot and that things could have turned out a lot worse. Guess it was unlucky that the crane in NY was able to gather enough speed and force prior to impact to smash through the whole building. Or maybe we were lucky that our building was a 70s build concrete bunker. Didn't look nice - but solid. And I can't even remember if I felt the impact or not - I was around somewhere studying - but no way that close.

Ha,ha,ha!

Yes, We all leveled up for sure! Although in my Wife's case she might have had the reverse effect and experienced a level drain....

I am once again at an Indian News-stand in the back using their computer for $2.00 every 15 minutes (quite a good rate for NYC)

Thanks so much everyone for your kind notes! it means a lot to me and my family that people actually care . Yesterday i was also on channel 9 news and today my mother was also on the news as she was let into our house for 15 minutes to get stuff....still might be a few days before we can start the cleanup process there...they didn't let my mother above the 3rd floor...I live on the top, fourth floor with my Wife and apparently it is experiencing some flooding from the rain, so i guess there are cracks in the roof....man it was really close!

I'll post pictures when i eventually get inside.

Actually, truth be told, I already snuck inside two nights ago to fetch some valubles, documents, and my cell phone...but that.... is another story.....unknown to the NYPD (whom i have total respect for by the way) I was able to put my high level Rogue powers to work after many frustrating days of being denied access.....I am actually a small hero to my family at the moment for pulling that off......ha,ha!

We will be staying in a hotel near by for the next week...(insurance has us covered)

All that D&D playing pays off! I think we will all want to hear the story over a drink at Gen Con. Can't wait to hear the full version!

I've seen a bunch of pictures from the accident - and there is a white or grey building to the left of the crushed brownstone, as seen from the street. It seems to match the number of stories - is that your house?

Stefan,

Considering the tragedies that have beset New Yorkers over the past number of years, I must commend New Yorkers for their resilience to excel in everything that they do in the face of adversity.

Your continued activities and perseverence contributes to a consistant "triumph over tragedy" (NY) mentality that one can not but, respect wholeheartedly.

I am glad that you and your family are all safe, and convey to you and your loved ones our best wishes towards an even better year.

Best wishes, from your best of neighbours up north.
