Regarding that note about a surprise for collectors wanting older sets, any clues? Or is it too early for details.

The only reason I ask is, if it involves a new variation intended as a replacement of an older set then I'll be good for a few sets. If it's involving a combination of existing MM stuff, then I won't really need any.

Hmm... Let's see. The exact quote is "Oh, and we are working on a nice surprise for those wanting some older classic dungeon sets."

Now, as I see it, that can be taken in two ways.

1) There is a surprise for people who want older sets specifically. The key phrase is "those wanting some older...sets." That implies that they are re-releasing some sets like the Narrow Passages set, perhaps with tweaks (the obvious one being "no bowties")

However, normally I don't see that much attention to language going on -- I think the more plausible interpretation is, rather:

2) There is a surprise for people who want some classic dungeon stuff, which is acknowledged as an older setting, and has not received an update in several years, while other settings have received a lot of attention. The key phrase is "those wanting some...classic dungeon sets."

I think they're addressing fans of the older, classic dungeon setting -- not fans of the older sets specifically.

It makes me pretty excited -- I know that after I spend a lot of time playing around with the cavernous water sets and the MBS and the DoE, I can easily forget just how really cool the "basic" dungeon set is, and how much can be done with it. I mean, in some ways, it's the best setting they've ever done -- far more flexible and versatile than the cavern settings (since the pieces are smaller and therefore you can get more variety out of your layouts), with more detailed and elaborate sculpts than the MBS (which is cool, but nothing is as detailed as the stonework in the dungeon walls), and lends itself to more types of setups than the DoE (which can only really ever be one type of location). Really, feels like with all the love for newer settings, the classic dungeon stuff needs some attention....

I got that impression as well. Something to spice up the classic dungeon sets. Like the floors set did many moons ago.

Hmm.. I'm guessing Narrow Passages, either minus bowties, or with some extra little elements thrown in. Or possibly both.

The Ogre's Den is possible, too, but I feel as though more people have been demanding the return of the NPS. That one is so flexible, esp. as support for higher levels and stacking (and as the Cavernous Chasm Set shows, Stefan is a real fan of that approach...)

L,

I think you are correct. Off to ebay for a month. I will have an ogre's den this month.

Narrow Passages!
I think it's on of 3 sets I do not own....
I have the octagon room set, but never got the diagonal set...
Never got the straight passages set... but I've got enough of those in general..

But the Narrow Passages.... SO many module maps call for 5 feet passages! Oh I hope Stefan is correcto mundo! I must have that set!

Cheers
