That is somewhat disturbing Dungeoneer....how long ago did you order your set?
I ordered mine (copied and paste from invoice) - Feb 2, 2007 04:10:08 AM - USA time. I wonder if that last shipment of DoE's from China was the last remaining DoE's? Maybe they don't ship them in order? They just pick up a random box out of the lot and ship it to whomever? Mostly I think because the certificate of authenticity IS inside the box. My guess is that there are probably less than 300 though. Jeff did say that there aren't too many left...on some thread...somewhere.

I believe the current number of DoE Room and Passage Sets is somewhere in the 250 range. Once the current shipment arrives and we dispose of any damage sets, we will have an exact number. I'll post it at that time...in about 6 months.

Dispose of damaged sets??? How about sell them at a discount? Or break them apart and sell them as single pieces?

If not, tell me where you throw these things away at and I'll go dumpster diving!!!

I believe this has been discussed before -- bottom line, the damaged sets are destroyed and nobody gets 'em. Stefan, understandably, doesn't want inferior product out there bearing his name and softening his reputation. He's an artist, and he doesn't want to be associated with anything that doesn't meet his standards.

Artistically and commercially, it makes sense, even if some of us would be happy to get discounted "inferior" DF. Heck, the customizers amongst us would LOVE to take a crack at 'em -- the errors might make, themselves, for fun jumping-off places for conversions!

I definately agree in regard to the customizers. It's not just the money - I just feel less bad if I Kratzerize a broken piece. That is actually how I got the idea for the gelatinous cube.

Or my rubbish pile. Could it be done with broken DF pieces ?

I'm guessing that they don't toss out an entire set because one or more pieces is damaged or sub-par. They can swap out the pieces from another set that might have a different piece that got broken in the shipping.

Eventually, they'll have the requisite number of complete sets.

Now, that potentially leaves a number of undamaged pieces that are no longer part of a set. I suppose they might then destroy these, to keep the previously stated number of sets. Or, they could just keep them for their own uses.

I do have to say that destroying undamaged Master Maze seems almost sacriligious to me. It's one thing to Kratzerize it, but I'd shed real tears over any Master Maze that got broken, even if it was to keep the remaining sets "properly limited."

Stefan's works are masterpieces, and it feels like cutting up the Mona Lisa or destroying the statue of David. I get the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it.

sorry for posting this tiny question here. But i've noticed questions like this being ingnored... when i select a large number of items at some point the shipping cost turns into zero as in free....what the?? So is it free if you order a large quantity then or is it a error??

If you go over the weight limit for your shipping method, the program freaks out and dies. If you get that error, it means that you have to remove something to get it under a certain weight. This weight limit can change from country to country. I think the lowest is Australia at around 44 pounds. For the US I think the weight limit is 70 pounds for UPS.

You have to place two orders if you find yourself over the limit. Sorry for the trouble.

We hope to upgrade the software this year to automatically split the order for you.

That would be about right. Australia would be the one with the lowest weight limit, thereby increasing the cost of shipping down under :P

Actually, this bit of background gives me a better idea of what is going on with the shipping as well. Thanks Jeff
