Does anyone know (or care to speculate) if the January price increase involves individual pieces as well as sets?

Yes, this was mentioned a month ago and then again in this week's e-mailed newsletter ...

"Price Increase Coming in January!
Due to ever-rising production costs, we are announcing that in January of 2007 we are going to raise the price of several of our older sets. This will be our first price increase in nine years, and it is necessary to allow us to offer these older sets to our collectors. Most sets made prior to 2006 will see about a 10% increase in January. We are announcing this now so you can take advantage of the savings available before 2007 arrives. We are sorry for this increase, and we appreciate your continued support."

Don't know about individual pieces but I'd expect it to apply to them as well ... production increases across the board and all ...

Understandable ... and much easier to stomach than my town's re-assessment of my house that increased it's value over 100% (over the 40% inc of 4 years ago)!!!!! Apparently, a fresh coat of paint is better than any addition to raise one's property values !!! Must be because I dry-brushed, ink washed and highlighted the whole house to bring out the cedar shake texture of the siding !!!! #*@*&!! Tax Man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Breathe, Mike, breathe . . . . . . . . . .

Hey Myrthe-Mike;

Try this; Sandy and I bought our house in 1995 for $95K. As of last year, according to the assessor (who is always undershooting according to sale prices) it's now worth $180K - and that's with a huge empty deck where the pool was when we bought it, and falling down now!
I'm afraid to tear the dilapidated deck down and do something else there; the tax assessment would kill me!
Ain't NO WAY I'm letting him INSIDE to see all the toys; I'd never be able to take a drink again (Heinlein said 'Be wary of strong drink; it can make you shoot at tax collectors - and miss!').

See ya!

Tax assessors aren't usually allowed inside homes -- the (tax) value of a home is based on its condition, size, location, etc., NOT on the quality of its furnishings.

Think of the price increase this way. A ten percent increase in the tenth year of production comes to one percent (1%) inflation. That's probably the best (lowest) rate of inflation in the freakin' world!

It also means that the price of a $120 set will go up by $12 (to $132). That means foregoing a single small pizza delivery to make up the difference. We'll thank them in the long run... DF SAVES LIVES!

jack -

Yeah, I know; but it SOUNDED good, didn't it?
I mean, c'mon, a panicked collector, desperately hiding his goodies?
Didn't you get at least ONE chuckle out of the image I presented?
PLE-E-E-A-SE?

Oh, well; so much for my career as a stand-up comedian after MD downsizes me out of a job.

Frak.

See ya!

Well, I got a chuckle out of the falling-down deck as camouflage against assessed value...

Hmmm ...

Good idea. I have an old detached one-car garage that I use as a shed. I'm hoping a tree falls on it so I, with the help of my homeowners insurance, can build a detached tavern-styled gaming studio !!!! Now I just have to plant a tree close enough and wait what, 30 - 40 years ?!! In the mean time, the old shed will get worse and worse and decrease my property value !!!! AH HA !! TAKE THAT TAX MAN !!!!
