We just got in some of our new fancy official Dwarven Forge shipping cardboard boxes. The ones pictured here are the larger ones, and some smaller ones will be coming very soon. We decided to upgrade our shipping by enclosing all sets in these neat shipping boxes -- complete with styrofoam peanuts and strapping.

The boxes shown here can be closed to equal 79 inches total cubage -- or the maximum allowed in several non-USA countries. Other countries allow more cubage, and for those shipments we are going to stack another box on top (and inverted) -- and then tape it all together.

All these steps should allow your sets (and those handy white boxes) to arrive in the best condition and for the least amount of foreign duty.

Thanks to everyone's feedback about this subject. We really do listen and try to improve things where our budget allows. This is a major improvement for us, and we have our great collectors to thank for it. So...thanks!

This is very cool news!

Thanks Jeff for the extra TLC that you're providing for MY gaming masterpieces. This is very much appreciated!

I am very much looking forward to testing these new shipping packages ASAP ...in fact, I will gladly volunteer your use of my home address here in Phoenix as a test-bed for your new shipping packages & protocols...*smiles* No trouble at all for me -- it's the kind of guy that I am, to want to help you guys out in this way!

You should probably ship the DOE WA and the MBS2 composite sets to my address first ...to properly stress-test the new packaging. I will or course, provide you in return, with a complete report regarding packaging stress (if any), along with a full assessment of the actual game product condition, upon arrival on this end.

To help you ease the burden of your decision-making in this matter, I will gladly pay full fees for all shipping charges AND total costs for PRODUCT!

If you act NOW to this pre-shipping test offer, we will also include detailed photos of all packages AND numerous in-depth photos of actual game-play using the products shipped inside. If you do choose to take advantage of this exciting offer, then please ship items to the address listed below with rush delivery!!

I'll take your offer under advisement, do some TCP reports, and then look into the matter further...at a later time...probably.

The question now will be, "Will these new boxes attract thieves like when GW-US first moved to the white with black-lettering boxes?"
The new box at the time informed one and all that there were gaming items within.
Parcel theft went up over 800% with the transition to the GW box.

Some GW-US Mail Order customers, who had repeated bad luck with this problem, were advised to no longer tell acquaintences when they had mail-ordered something from GW.
Gee, when they no longer told folks they ordered something, the amount of parcel theft went down a good bit.
Not back down to the levels of the original plain brown box, but much better than with all of the yacking.

I hope that this problem will not become an issue now for DF.
The outer box is a GREAT idea, but splashing the company logo on the outside, well ... .

I suppose it depends on your circumstances. Previously I had all of my ordered items sent to my work place, because there was someone there 24/7 to receive packages. I needed that because UPS tended to leave my packages anywhere they felt like, including with neighbors I'd not met, tossed over a fence into a patio, or left out in the rain.

I've never had a package stolen, despite packaging logos. My coworkers weren't gamers, so my game stuff didn't interest them, and the knives I ordered from the Cutlery Shoppe tended to scare them a bit.

Yeah, I understand your concerns here, RF.

My heart skipped a bit when I ordered an ALIENWARE computer a few months back. Those things are pretty darn expensive and it arrived at my door-step in a huge BLACK carton with a big White logo and alien face...they couldn't have made it more obvious as to what was inside the box! The neighbors were watching the whole delivery and there was no guessing what was arriving.

I guess if someone wants to break into a package (or steal it out-right), then there's nothing really to stop them or anything we can do about it, but if a PC worth about 6 grand makes it to my house intact, then the odds are petty good that the DF pieces will arrive OK.

This probably isn't the best comparison, as I value the DF product much more so than my PC, but the way both are packaged is similar.

I agree with Ghostmage ... I've never had any problems with any item being stolen regardless of company logo or not. If someone chooses to steal a box (unmarked or not) from my door step, I suspect it's more for what "might" be inside rather than what "is" inside. I can't see some would-be thief coming to my door to "browse" and then decide that the box, or it's potential contents, aren't to his liking and just walking away empty-handed :) That being said, if no one is home to receive a shipment, I arrange to get it sent to work where someone is. Simple.

As far as things that go "missing" in transit. It is, unfortunately, a sad fact of business and that is why there is insurance and why companies like UPS (which DF uses) are so serious about loss-prevention. Their reputations are on the line. A DF logo, an extra-terrestrial AlienWare logo, a cow-spotted Gateway motif or any other "corporate identifier" doesn't, or shouldn't, matter. There are insurance, tracking, and "signature required" options. That's why big-ticket items are rarely shipped regular mail.

That's not to discount RF*s point about GW's losses, but they typically send things through regular mail. Their costs are probably cheaper to replace lost packages rather than insure, or use a trackable carrier, for all of them. As far as the "yacking" ... that seems a bit of an over-simplified conclusion. Neither me, nor my circles of gaming friends, have ever lost a GW package and have never had each other, or random gamers, staking-out our abodes for pending shipments. C'mon, the lost shipments are probably a poor cover-up comment because of GW's crack distribution botching the shipments from their door ... but that's a discussion for another time and, most definitely, another forum completely.

See ya !!

I'm just happy that they'll be completely enclosed! As for theft, I doubt I'll have a problem. If someone's up where they are going to take my boxes... they're up to no good anyway and it would be shotgun time. (If I had one...)

If a thief is lucky, he gets the shotgun treatment. If he's unlucky, I make him listen to me sing first.
