the design of the long walls is gonna be really, reallly kool and was inspired by my readings of HP Lovecraft
Cool! That means there'll be rats in 'em. :)

And I LOVE the platforms! I love the fact that DF is giving us more options for building up. I love the tentacles. I love the fact that it's a three-stage piece.

Here's the scene I'm envisioning:

The heroes enter the chamber to discover an evil cleric and his cultists at the culmination of a complex ritual. The chanting builds, and the floor starts to shake. At the center of the cultists' circle, the floor, along with the cleric, starts to rise, driven upward by thousands of writing tentacles. They snap out at the cultists, pulling them in as a sacrifice. The cleric continues his incantations, a swirling mass at the center of the floor appears. Will the heroes be able to stop him in time to close the hellmouth before unknown terrors pour through onto our plane? Or will they get drawn in and have to fight the evil on its home turf?

You could build a whole campaign around that piece if you put your mind to it.

The new wall design is definitely going to add to the otherworldly/multidimensional/astral planal feel...it will be up to the GM's to decide just what horrific dimensions or planes lie beyond...

I just hope the Lovecraftian decor doesn't revive that old chestnut...

"Oh, the GM is getting out the Den of Evil. You know what that means!"

What's wrong with that?

I used DoE for certain locations in my game, all of them tough fights that the Players remember and when they see it they know what is in store, and they actually get excited becuase they know something is going down....

I have yet to use DOE in any game but I planned to use it for a game that I was going to arrange in September but I had to cancel due to time constaints...still hoping to have a game perhaps in November - but with the new DOE WE set comming out I may wait to include it...and really can't wait for March where I might be able to really put something nasty together!

Hilton Head?
Hey, I've seen that video!

Cute YC; I have not and really have no desire to.
There are much better looking and well-endowed women out there!
She truly seems to be lacking in feminine pulchritude.

She is no where as good looking as this Carolina barrier island.
Why do folk think PH and her sister N are all that good looking?
Is it just the beauty of their bank accounts that folks are seeing?

JK:
Granted there are plenty if links and courts, but there is so much more to do than just those on Hilton Head.
Diving, hiking, fishing, paddling, camping, trekking, sailing and so forth.
Plus, for those who want to indulge and maybe gain a few inches a round, the cuisine is excellent as well.

Jerome Blake.
He is not the bad one; he was ust making lemonade out of lemons.
Conrad Toyama (Blake's successor)
Talk about a major kooky bird!
Oh well, discussion for another time when my link is not shrilling.
Gotta go!

Hey Rabid-I remember the same judgemental arseholes when I was growing up. I was attending a Christian school and one of the kids at school had got me interested in D&D (he was one of the teacher's kids-they didn't even knew he played). Never being great a school or much on reading I got my PHB, MM and DMG and you couldn't hardly get my nose out of the books. One fateful day, I was digging through my books and had left my DM's guide on my desk-you know the one with the Efreeti with the sword and scantly glad girl. My teacher about blew a gasket and sent me to the prinable's office. Long story short was I didn't get expelled, but would if I ever brought that 'sinful' book to school again. So I know your concerns. These people will always have something they dislike and want to force there values upon others.

I travel a lot in my job and one of the rock radio stations I listen to in Yakama is a Holy Roller station in Spokane-I just happen to flip on the station and they were talking about the bombardment of evil (maybe a new title for the next DoE set-Bombardment of Evil-lol sorry, I digress) facing our young children, in this case, they were talking about the Smurfs...

I kid you not!

I this particular episode, Papa Smurf drew a pentigram while casting a spell and used a demonic phrase right from the book of Satan. OK, how many 8 year olds are going to know that? How many adults are going to know that? My god! I release that fear is a powerful emotion politicians and priest love to use to there advantage, but attacking the Smurfs, dammit that is just wrong!

BTW, did anyone ever wonder why there is only one female Smurf? Guess we know who runs that villiage!!

Maybe there is a DoE WA2 already in the works with what y'all want, yes?

I just need to remember not to take any more pics of the DoE stuff, new or old, to any more of the game shoppes I go to in the Utah-Idaho-Wyoming tri-state area.
Boy, were there really negative reactions by parents at four different shoppes.

Jeff & Stefan, you certainly named the DoE correctly; "evil" was one of the first words out of six different parents' mouths about how they felt about the new DoE set from the pics from the latest DF newsletter I had printed up to show gamers.
The next sentence out of all of these parents' mouths to their offspring contained theme variations on, "I had better not see anything like that in MY house!"

If that was the reaction to DoE WA you were looking for Jeff & Stefan, you hit it on the head perfectly!
Otherwise, one can just hope these were gamers that were not interested in buying the set anyway.
Moreover, one can hope it is just "a tempest in a teacup" as one of my Great Aunts occasionally says about such negative matters.

Before anyone starts ragging on me about me informing folks about this, like when the original DoE set came out and the reactions I heard, please do not do so this time, okay?
I am just posting the parental reactions I have heard and seen over the last ~36 hours to the DoE WA pics since I printed the DF newsletter and took it to shoppes I go to.
No need to kill the messenger, okay?

I just meant that I saw a tourist video put out by the Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce. What else would I be talking about? :)

Well DMMJ, I can see that you have had a "bad" personal experience concerning religious standards and RPGing.
We just will not go there again, okay?
Let us do what Law said and accept there are people around this world with differing standards out there.
Furthermore, we will not engage in a discussion of the anthropological issue of cross-temporal and cross-cultural absolute standards of right and wrong.
That would not fit within this thread anyway.

Now back to the DoE broadcast and how many are severely disappointed with the part selection of DoE WA1.

Stefan, you said there would be additional parts released around the Spring Equinox.
Is that only a few loose parts or can the DoE fans look forward to DoE WA2 by that point?

Well, I'm disappointed with the lack of a 6" straight passage piece, but I'm hoping that will be in DOE WA 2.

Otherwise I have a very positive attitude towards the set, and I especially look forward to getting my hands on the stairs, tentacle pillars and raised platform...with multiple WA sets one could make a very nice 3D layout.

The tentacle rosette motif looks better in this set, from what have seen.
