Question:

It looks like you have used three sets for this setup.

Does that mean there will only be one staircase per set?

Just wondering.

Cool. Can't wait to make tile drawings for it. We're going to have an awesome setup at Kublacon next year. Stefan, if you can come out, it would really be cool. We'd like for you to play in our event. We do a combo live-action, RPG, mini d20 game. It's an in-game scavenger hunt that involves multiple physical locations in the hotel as well as multiple DF locations.

Jeff, Stefan

Nothing to add here from my site - yes - it is sooooo coool. It looks great. Would have loved the set last Sunday. I'm now considering to build up my evil palace again - newly refurbished after the Orkish Raid - once the set is available.

Great work !!

Er... looks beautiful but I think the pit is a pretty huge piece that I would not use too often... is that floor elevated and cannot be put as normal floor?

What about long walls? is there only the 6x6 floor? there's no more big 'general evil' floors?

A lot of nice aditions (as stated in the name), but this doesn't seem to be the 'expanded room set' (that wasn't the purpose, I know) I was expecting for... I don't really need those columns, the specific evil stairs, the floor with stairs, the pillars, the curved corners or the diagonal curved floors, and the least that huge pit piece (sorry, it's wonderful, but enormous) . The Evil Demons Archway is wonderful though. Well, all the pieces are superb, of course!

But I feel a bit disappointed because it's not the set I needed to make the 'too-much-passages basic evil set' as balanced as I wanted.

i'm in with arsheim that we dearly need 6" walls, or a big bunch of 2" walls in the set to make
good use of the superb room pieces in this set.

Hope that 4 6" Walls are in, if it's the case the set will simply rock.
Love the idea of the elevated pit (especially with the lid, so it can be used as an elevated platform).

Also the stairs and the other stuff is cool and gives a real "...of evil" feeling

arsthein, Green_Knight;

Unless my 55-year-old eyes are deceivers, there are BOTH 4" AND 6" walls in this set - which is a VAST improvement over the old, 2" or 6" only, selection!
Look at photos #3, 4, and 5; doesn't that look like a solid wall piece in those long walls? I thought they were, but I could be wrong. Besides, 6" plain DoE wall is necessary to balance the Demon Gate!

It looks like Jeff and Stefan have hit a winner for DoE fans. I'm NOT a HUGE DoE'er, but I guarantee that if the price is right, I'll be ordering 2 or more. And, if those pieces escape as singles, I'll be getting some extras of stuff, as well.

See ya!

The pictures #3,#4 and #5 are the reason i asked i looked at them in detail, and
discovered that the walls are simply 2" walls in a row (you can see this cause they
didn't line up perfectly).

as i said before a bunch of 2" walls would do it for me, too.

we simply need some more walls in general.

If the set contains enough of them i go for two of these i think.

just in case on one of you misunderstands me,

i just want to make sure the set will be what we need.

And we had two bad examples in the past:

As for the DoE set i got only one, cause there are way too
much corridors in it, far more than most of the DF collectors
i know of need. Think i would have got more sets if there
were more walls and floor pieces in and two curved
passages dropped from the set.

The same for the Sci-Fi Alpha, as it came out nearly useless, cause
of lacking walls. As the beta came out i bought some individual
6" sci-fi walls and two extra alpha sets.

Mmmm... well, those walls seem 2" walls to me, but may be I am wrong...

Several (I would say "a lot of") 2" walls would do for me too, but they should be at least 12... hope this set has 4 6" walls at least. If so, and there are enough floor, eventually I would take 2. I only have 1 DoE because of the same reasons as Green_knight: I can't use all those passages with so little amount of room pieces...

Greetings!

I agree with the rest of the guys, DoE works best if we can make big rooms. For that, we need more walls, corners and floors. Looking forward to seeing the contents list for the box!

I really like the look of most of what the expansion is set to include, but I have to differ about whether or not what we really need is more walls etc.

For me, the greatest strength of DoE is also its greatest weakness -- it doesn't LOOK like anything. The columns might have suggested an evil temple, but the colors and the Lovecraftian temples suggest a planar environment of some kind. In general, it doesn't look like the sort of set you'd use the way you use the dungeon or MBS pieces. "This is the library, this is the bedchamber, this is the armory, this is the dungeon..."

What I would like to see for future DoE sets is not so much the ability to make more and more out of the same design -- which to some extent is possible just by buying more current sets, despite the passages -- but some transitional elements that allow me to tie down a set to a particular environment.

I sort of react to it the way some SF fans have reacted to the SF sets -- I love the idea of an "evil" environment, a goth-torture type place. But I want a little more specificity, a way to distinguish between rooms, or locations in general.

I'd like to see something that allows me to make a DoE "Hall of Audience" or "Portal to the Abyss" or "Sacrificial Altar" or "Arcane Library of Death." Maybe it'd be furnishings, maybe it'd be building elements. I don't know. I don't have any specific preferences, myself. But I do feel that there is limited appeal, for me at least, of making essentially the exact same room over and over and over and over -- you know?

That's what I like most about this first expansion - some of these pieces will be VERY helpful at giving particular rooms in a DoE environment a very specific character. But just giving me a set with more walls, floors, and corners, in whatever numbers seem most useful, would not in itself thrill me. They may be necessary, but as a supplement to some further idea, not as something in itself.

Just my thoughts. I have a very strange relationship to this set -- I love it, but I also find myself occasionally thinking something is missing with it.... This is one of the bigger points, and why I didn't get more than 1 set of the original (besides the passages issue). I just sort of thought to myself, "How many rooms like this do I really NEED in a setup?" So far, I'm happy to have a small- to mid-sized DoE environment, or a simple room or two as a supplement to a regular dungeon. It's a small set for me, and before I'd want to get a large DoE collection, I'd have to be able to see more things I could do with it. The chief appeal of MM for me, after all, has always been its modular nature, its flexibility.
