I came home from work, and Santa Claus had come several months early! My Lake Sets are gorgeous!

I am SO going to run a cavern game soon. Those lizardman ambushers rock!

Whoo hoo!

Got mine around noon (delivered at work), but kept forgetting to post. :) I hope our international friends manage to get theirs quickly.

I got mine too! They just showed up about 5 minutes ago and I've already torn into both boxes! The lizardmen do rock! I'm already fighting with my 3-year-old over them. He's a pretty dirty fighter. Just came at me with his cutlass and an airplane!

Will try to post pics tonight or over the weekend! Thanks Jeff & Stefan!

I'm back! These are really, really nice. VERY fragile looking! I'm afraid I'm going to snap off the stalagmites so I'm treading cautiously.

I'm in the middle of building a massive cavern setup that I'm going to shoot this weekend. The hardest part is going to be figuring out how to put these damned things back in the box! Many of the Lake pieces come stored upside down and stacked to avoid snapping off the stalagmites. I should have shot a pic of that before unpacking them. Maybe somebody could do that and post it?

Well, the inevitable happened. My son REALLY liked the lizardmen ambushers so he made off with one unbeknownst to me. He got excited when my wife got home and just dropped it on the dining room floor. Guess who stepped right on it--barefoot? Fortunately I didn't have to pick resin and metal (yes--metal) out of my foot!

One interesting thing that I found out about the structure of the lizardmen as a result--there's a steel pin that runs the length of their blowgun and into their heads. I was able to recover the hand that got snapped off but I'm going to have to use the green stuff to recreate the blowgun.

We definitely need more of the plain, square Lake sections. I made a nice sized lake out of 2 sets but really need to solid water sections to complete it. As it is now, I'm trying to find a way to retain the shape of what I laid out without putting dungeon or cavern pieces there. I was also able to make another smaller lake with the leftover bits from the second set (again, will post pics this weekend).

I must have just totally overlooked the contents on the box but when I was unpacking the Lake pieces, I kept thinking, "Man, they just keep coming and coming!" because of the way the sections were stacked and packed.

Oh well, off to dinner now!

Hello Dante et al -

I'm both a long time lurker on this forum and a very long time DF user. I too (exitedly) received my (3) lake sets today and immediatly unpacked them (and my 3 river sets) and started assembling. I love the water pieces and have been waiting ages for them. I've already assembled 3 large cavern complexes (using all of my pieces) based around the river sets and they look (and will eventually play) great. I periodically set up large combo cavern and dungeon set ups and populate them and develop a themed (D & D variant) adventure and invite 6-10 folks over to play it out (perhaps I will post some of my many pics at some point). I value both look and playability.

I have to say I am somewhat disapointed in the lack of flexibility with the lake set - at least from what I can see thus far. The lack of reverse corner shorline is most problamatic. I would like to design long sinewy lakes with mutiple land access points and this set seems to only (asthetically) allow round type lakes. I was initially pleased with the concept that on ordering 3 sets you got 3 open water pieces - but frankly I think I will have trouble using them all. I do like how certain river pieces (particularly the Y piece) interconnect with the lake pieces - and I do love the quality and inginuity of the pieces in general (Stephan rocks!) - but so far my "lakes" have had to use quite a few river pieces to get (close to) the designs I'm after and I was hoping to be able to use these pieces for extensive river sections in addition to the lakes (I set up on a 9' x 3'+ table and like to fill it up)...so at this point I'm somewhat stymied - but I will work on more designs and see what I can come up with. I also second the calls I have seen for waterfall pieces and in fact I have already designed (on paper) a whole set (plus) of waterfalls with different characteristics and connectivities that I would love to see produced - one would have a removable top with a cave opening underneath...another with stone steps leading up along the waterfall...etc. Anyway - sorry for being so negative - I really do love this stuff and have many plans for future uses - but I have to honestly say the lake set seems less (playably) useful then I was hoping for)...anyway glad to finally have logged on and posted. Cheers.

I just got home after a long day and was very pleasanty surprised my Lake Sets had arrived! I really like the little lizardfolk ambushers. Unfortunatlely I'm already so tired that other than opening a single box to get a glimpse, further examination of the pieces will have to wait until tomorrow.

Thoth, you should post your pictures of your ideas for different waterfalls. Stefan might get inspired to make some of them along with the now very desired reverse corner lake piece in the NEXT water set (Cavernous Waters Wicked Addition?).

Dante - sorry to hear about your DF figure. Hope it all works out.
My sets arrived while I slept today. When I got up around 14:15 my wife forgot to tell me they had come (and I didn't ask because I ASSUMED she would tell me since she knew I wanted to play with them), so I went back to bed and tried to get another two hours sleep before work. Ended up with no real extra sleep and no chance to play with the set.
At the last minute, I decided to leave the set at home (instead of bringing it to work) and open it tomorrow.

Sadly, I won't really get to play with these sets until after Gen Con. I'll be working all weekend and heading out Monday after work and sleep. So...adding these to my cavern/passage/river setup will have to wait.

Hope to see lots of pics from you all shortly after Gen Con.

Speaking of waterfalls, I was thinking today how I could use my river sets to make a waterfall from a lake. I don't want to drill holes in the pieces as others have, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'll try and see what happens. Please share your results on anything you guys come up with.

I think there was a discussion, where Stefan chimed in, regarding Inverse pieces. I am not sure I followed it all (I didn't try!) but I think Stefan may already have some of the pieces you are looking for in mind for the future (regarding lake and river pieces).

One thing I discovered over the weekend is that I would like to see both left and right cavernous passage to cavern conversion pieces. As it is now. the piece that exists (I forget which name exactly and I am at work so am not going to go dig for it right now) only allows connectivity from one side. I really needed the piece with the passage and cavern reversed for something I wanted to do.

THOTH - You're not being too negative. Just sharing your thoughts and "needs." This is a good thing as many people here may have similar needs and Stefan and Jeff may want to hear them so they can decide what they want to do for future products. It's good of you to share your ideas. Thanks.

62 sets and counting. In addition, a boatload of individual pieces or sets of pieces.

weaver--thanks. I managed to get the hand glued back into place and I think I'll be able to restore the rest fairly easily.

THOTH--nice to hear from you. Ditto what weaver said--Good, constructive criticism is appreciated here. I think everyone here who contributes their feedback is worth listening to, but more importantly, Stefan and Jeff really pay attention to what folks have to say as well.

I too was starting to see some challenges with setting up configurations with my 2 Lake sets and my 2 CRW sets. I need more straignt and curved standing walls! About 14 straight walls and at least 4 more curves. Just can't afford to buy 2 more whole CRW sets or more. I'm sure that the more I play around with these, the better I'll get at finding configurations that work. I tend to shoot for really elaborate 1-level setups that run a long, long course.

Tonight I wound up with a lot of "negative" space (pieces that are open on their sides creating natural nooks and crannies) in the setup I'm working on. I think I'll call it a "large cathedral dome" cavernous opening.

I'm hoping that by next weekend, we'll have enough pics here of how people are laying out their sets so that we can generate some good ideas for layouts that don't fall short of pieces.

Yes. We definately need individual wall sets. Straight and Curved.
I haven't gotten my lake pieces out yet but I sure can see in my head that the reverse or inverse curves with the inside of the curve being the land and the water around the outside of the curve, are definately items that would help here.

i got mine yesterday, and have had the chance to look at a few of the pieces, but just haven't yet had the time to try any setups... and then there's putting the lake and river bits back where each piece belongs. think i'm going to mark the bottoms of the pieces and the insides of the styrofoam so i can match them back up for storage.

that, and now i've got some cavern passages to add to the huge setups i can get from my 6 cavern sets (originally ordered 3, but UPS buggered it up and so a second shipment got sent out that i just decided to pay for and keep around anyway)

Well Law, you were among the first to get your CRW sets.
Some would say it is poetic justice that you are not first at all this time.

Oh well, I have not gotten my sets either yet.
I definitely sympathize Law.
