I agree with crioux. Shipping to Canada just cost too much for me to order anything, even with the super holiday season special. It's too bad that Canada is considered international shipping. Just to be clear, I believe the set prices are very reasonable.
I agree as well... the funny thing is that my first DF set was bought reatail at a comic book shop. It was a room and passage set and it cost about 120 cdn (This was when our dollar was still weak, so that was about the same as what DF charges.)

Since then i've been looking everywhere for comic book shops that carry DF, but i'm coming more and more to realise that it was probably a complete fluke.

Let's take the example of my latest order: (I was lucky that all the sets were available, because making a big order lower the shipping cost)

Cavernous Chasm Set: $109.00
Tavern Accessories Set: $35.00
Medieval Building Expansion Set: $79.00
Cavernous Lake Set: $129.00
Cavernous Lake Expansion Set: 129$
Total: 481$

+114$ shipping

+"conversion" to CDN dollar (the CDN dollar was HIGHER than the US dollar when I ordered)

=608$ cdn

+80$ cdn customs fees

TOTAL 688$ cdn

dear canadian brethren,

i just got back from a 3 week tour of the US with my band and lugged around two big DF boxes the whole way. i shipped the boxes to a friend's house in seattle to save on shipping. it was worth the wait to save on the shipping. if any of you have friends/relatives stateside that you know you'll be visiting or vice versa i suggest trying that method. here's what i paid for shipping...

Subtotal: $486.00
Shipping cost: $43.65
Customs cost: $0

Subtotal: $297.00
Shipping cost: $22.67
Customs cost: $0

granted, i do travel a lot in the states and live an hour from the border, and most of you probably don't.

i would welcome a reduction or such in the shipping to canada, but i doubt it's do-able for our homeboys at DF.

Just wondering if there has/will be any change on the shipping/payment policies to Canada in the near future.

I like the other Canadian posters have been seriously put off from ordering hundreds of dollars ($500-1000+) worth of product due to the gross (no pun intended, before duties & taxes) shipping costs. Now that there is little difference between the dollars, this is the main impediment.

Also, are there other options for payment (e.g. international money order drawn in U.S. funds, Visa credit card, etc...) other than Paypal ? For various reasons I do not have/want a PayPal account, and would prefer to pay using some other method, even if it meant waiting additional time for the payment to go through.

It is a bit confusing why a company would turn away so much potential revenue, over an issue that is not a problem for other vendors (e.g. no real difference between US & Canada other than customs duties when it comes to Internet purchases. Paying with Visa and shipping via UPS/FedEx is the norm for most transactions).

There won't be a change in shipping overseas for the foreseeable future. Sorry!

And sorry, but Paypal is our one choice now for payment. Perhaps you can find someone with a Paypal account who could do the transaction for you?

We hope to upgrade our website later this year to allow for other forms of payment. Stay tuned.

Unfortunately, the high shipping costs are due mostly to the weight of our products which are considerably much more than other companies. Jeff has also explained to me that our fulfilment center in Knoxville, TN charges us extra for foreign orders which are much more complicated for them to handle. Both physically and paperwork wise. As far as payment methods I am sure Jeff can work something out if you call him by telephone. International money order would probably be best?

Sorry for the hassles, we have nothing against Canada of course.... except when the Blue Jays kick our Yankee butts around...

So please call the number listed on our site and talk to Jeff and we will try to help you. Of course, we would like your business and make you happy for many years (but please be nice because his family is going through a difficult situation right now)

Thanks Jeff & Stefan for your quick replies :-)

Thank you :-) for listening and providing some alternatives. I will be in touch in the next week or two to place an order.

Best wishes to Jeff and yourself :-) Having worked in a number of small businesses, I can appreciate the challenges a small custom manufacturing business like DF must navigate through and the time/dedication required of staff/families to make it a success.

You have a great catalog of quality products (managed to pick up the few sets that were available at local gaming stores and the previews on the web look fab).

BTW: Part of the tone of frustration you picked up on in my original post was due to the fact that I (and I suspect others posting in this thread) really want your business to thrive and continue making such wonderful additions to our gaming lives. Best way to do that is through commerce but the impediments I described were blocking that. Sorry if I sounded too gruff :-(

Hang in there and keep up the good work.

I might add that I prefer spending my money on DF stuff, than on shipping fees.

No problems mark:) And I apologize again.
Yes, we are the smallest of businesses...and I realize, many times people from all over the world are so frustrated at the costs involved for shipping to other countries...but I know, it's only because they really like our stuff and they wants it! Like I said, I'm sure we can help you.

I'm just happy that you took the time to voice your frustration rather than give up...in such a case, we cannot help at all...

and we wants to help! we wants to heeellllpppp!!!

Yyyyiiiiiiiiii!!!!

Best Regards,
Stefan

Indeed ::
Since the first of june 2008 the douane taxe for each DF package is 156€ : +50€ !!!
As always the douane taxes us for "video games accessories"...
Can you please corrige the shoot (french expression) to avoid 25€ and may be more on our future packages ?
You need to write "boardgames/jeux de socièté" somewhere on the package for the douane officers.

Dear JEff and Stefan

It's very important for us (French or european people) to have "boardgames/jeux de socièté" on the delivery. French state (per example) puts a tax on all electronic devices. Dwarven Forge is not "video games accessories".... :)

Could you give this information at UPS ?

Many thanks in advance for your help
