Thoughts on the Pre-Order for the "Cavernous Lake Set" 8 Years, 3 Months ago
I just wanted to drop a note here to thank eveyone who has pre-ordered from us this past year -- starting with the Den of Evil Set. It is because of everyone's willingness to pre-order that we are able to release so many sets this year. In the past, we have been lucky to release 1-2 sets a year, and now it looks like we might release FIVE sets this year! (Sci-Fi Beta, Cavernous River and Walls, Cavernous Lake, Mystery Set, and the Den of Evil (Wicked Additions) Set)

Also, I hope you guys find our crazy Mystery Set contest a little fun -- as it will allow one lucky person to get one of these sets TWO MONTHS in advance. See more details at www.dwarvenforge.com/store/pages.php?pageid=4

I thought it would be a way to spur some sales, generate some fun during the pre-order period, and thank our hardcore collectors for pre-ordering (and allowing us to speed up production).

Finally, I would like to personally encourage everyone to pre-order some "Cavernous Lake Sets" at this time. I don't want to sound like I am begging for sales here, but I would like to say that we could use the help! Bringing in the "Mystery Set" without pre-orders is very financially straining for us, but we wanted to do something cool for our collectors and our 10th anniversary. We have added many incentives for pre-order now a set or three now, and I invite you to do so.

Thanks!

Hmm... I put in three sets and the coupon code, but it won't take it. It says I didn't order enough.

Pre-ordered my Lake Set! Woo-hoo!

Now, us folks in Boston would love it if you guys could do a "Warm, Dry, Early Summer" set....

BTW, one remark, a minor quibble: on the site, it says something about the Lake Set being sold-out, but more being due in August. I understand that it is not in stock, but the language could be more clear for several reasons:

1. "Sold out" simply isn't accurate, and
2. Some places use "sold out" on pre-orders to indicate that no more pre-orders are being taken. "We're getting five cases, and they're all spoken for -- this pre-order is sold out" It threw me for a minute.
3. "back in stock in August" sounds like some come sooner, and then a second wave in August.

It is hardly a problem, really, but for future reference, people who are stumbling across the site and not regular forum members might be a bit confused about what's going on -- esp. since it's so unusual to ask for money up-front with a pre-order. You ask people to pay a decent amount of change for a product they won't get for months, you want to be VERY VERY CLEAR about what the deal is, you know?

Still and all, very excited for this lake set. Till it arrives, I'll have to be content with my brand new, hyper-realistic lake in my basement... ;)

It should work now. Please try again. Thanks.

These are good points. I'll try to get a better handle on all this today. Thanks for the feedback!

I can confirm those concerns 'L' had about the phrasing.

I also struggled a little bit as I saw 'sold out' and 'back in stock in August'.

Due to the information on the forum here, I was able to interpret it correctly, but people that don't read here regularly or even not at all, might not just be confused a little bit, but also be put off from it (what's ok as long as it guarantees that all people here interested in the set can pre-order it before it is sold out ;) ).

I think the "sold out - in stock in August" refers to the fact that the set has not yet arrived, and won't arrive until (approximately) August 1st. Thus, it isn't "in stock" yet.

I just put in my order for three Lake sets. I'd be one happy, happy boy if I got to be the lucky winner of the contest. But, I'll still be a happy boy, because I'm getting more Master Maze, plus extra water sections, plus limited edition lizardman ambushers! It would seem that the time has passed on getting a free Trap Set II, but I'm not complaining.

All that, and I started my first day of work today! So it's all good.

WHen you use the "40" code dont forget to hit the submit button just below it or else the shopping cart will not credit you.

3 sets and wishing it had been 4 or 5.

Thank YOU Dwarven Forge for providing your customers with so many great sets, especially in one year.
Thanks again for the chance to win a pre-proction Mystery Set.

Question though (to play devli's advocate), for DF Customers: How many people can truly afford to buy 1, 2, or even 3 of each of the new sets this year?
DF may already have good statistical guessing in place, but this questoin is aimed at helping DF (I'm just a customer) determine what the forum readers can afford (or will buy regardless of what they can afford).

I discovered that I have overextended myself, again, and will probably have to look for a THIRD 0% interest for 12 months credit card.
I pre-ordered 3 CR&W and 3 CL sets.
Depeneding upon what the mystery set is, I'll probably buy 2-3. This I'll probably due at Gen Con and on an over-taxed credit card.
Depending upon what is in the DOE-WE set, I'll probably buy 1-2, however, this will likely wait until after tax returns.
I'm not currently into Sci-Fi, so I haven't bought any SF sets.

Just being curious.

-------------------------------
EDIT
-------------------------------
DOH. I just saw over on the Ask DF section that other DF customers are voicing similiar concerns.
I LOVE the many new products. I'm just afraid that I won't be able to keep up with the output. How many times can I afford to buy 2-3 new sets 4 times per year, year after year? I WANT to be able to afford to do so, but I don't think it's likely (at least not until after my wife becomes an RN...in about another three years).

62 sets and counting. In addition, a boatload of individual pieces or sets of pieces.

Credit cards are evil. The only one I have left is an American Express which has to be paid off each month.

To answer the original question I have purchased 18 sets this year. I think that they should release as many sets as is possible while still staying afloat financially.
