INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING UPDATE! 8 Years, 11 Months ago
I live in Vancouver, Canada. If I wanted I could bicycle to the border. That makes my "international" status even more frustrating.

Can I make an order from Canada using Paypal or a credit card and have it shipped to an address in Washington State?

Blairgb, you seem to be missing my point here.
Blairgb and any other international Dwarven Forge enthusiasts, go to <Profile> at the top of the page and add your country into your profile.
It will then appear on every single one of your posts just like "Western U.S.A." does for me, "Magnolia, Texas" does for whitewind and "South Florida" does for IO.
This is will give your complaints and concerns added weight when you post.

blair(gb),

maybe we should consider shipping our order(s) to one of the 3 inches dudes(brian comes to mind) in tacoma. i'm pretty sure they're renting a house in the coming months to write the new album, and a house has an adress... we would avoid the $500 minimum and shipping would be cheaper. plus we wouldn't get nailed with customs charges... hmmmm. still doesn't help the other buyers, but this is looking better and better. i'm gonna call hoops today.

Man, this is very bad for me... as long as I want to order my items counting with nobody... think in Spain I don't know people enough to order 500$... so I would have to pay my part of shipping order to UK (for example) and then the shipping to Spain? No way my friend. That will not happen even if it means to get no more DF Stuff. Hope at least you sell to online stores as nobleknight so I can deal with them. When I buy through internet I want to have reasonable safeguard that the items will arrive, and the responsability there should not fall over a friend in UK, France, etc... but directly on the manufacturer, online store, etc.

Very very sad news for me, more than you can imagine.

You would think that having limited licensed dealers such as Noble Knight (or even regional distrubuters such as Military Simulations in Australia) would solve the problem. Give the dealer a cut of the profit for their trouble and effectively outsource the technical challenge of international postage if it is so bothersome. Leave direct on-line sales to North America (USA/Canada/Mexico).

The idea of been able to accumulate pre-orders until the minimum order amount is reached has some merit from the poor inventory level and limited edition perspective but I'm sure big lumpy orders will create customs/tax issues for many buyers. Despite these problems it is still better that the current policy - any comment on this from DF?

Another solution is of course to bury ones head in the sand and pretend no moral contract exist to maintain supply to international customers who have bought into what DF itself is now marketing as collectable. It really is quite annoying to start an investment in the new Sci-Fi and DOE lines to sudenly have unreasonable purchasing barriers imposed for poorly explained reasons. We ask for cheaper surface freight options and instead get expensive air couriers with ludicrous minimum order amounts and potential customs/tax problems to boot. Bravo.

Jeff should have some good news for you guys soon....this has been really gut wrenching for us but we will try to come up with a better solution that will also not take up so much of Jeff's valuable time. I have also offered to help out If I can, and have also volunteered my Wife and mother (for Italian orders) to see if we can ease the burden on Jeff. Currently, every single order has to be taken care of individually and they are all different, so it takes up an enourmous amount of time, and also creates lot's of headaches...I already give Jeff enough headaches I think...
Anyway, please hold tight and we will try to get a better policy up soon.

Sincerely,

Stefan.

Stefan,

Glad to hear you are on the case as I don't believe these administrative issues are insurmountable.

Many online retailers solve the admin issue on international shipping by applying flat % uplifts to the price based on geographic areas based on actual cost and passing on any discounts that apply on larger orders. In the case of DF the product is largely consistant in terms of size and shape which makes this type of method easier. As a company you absorb some shipping losses verses some gains and tweak the policy to ensure your shipping account squares up at the end of the period. The more admin you can outsource to the shipping agent (eg insurance claims, customs documentation etc) the better as it alleviates your admin burden. Clearly the buyer must bear the local tax risk.

Stefan and Jeff

I would like to say thank you to everyone involved at DF for trying to make it easier (and more affordable) to place international orders.

Any good news regarding this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again.

Yes, thank you, your efforts are really appreciated, I hold my breath...

Really, I prefer to pay more (because of prize increase for selling through dealers) or even to wait more (surface shipping) better than having a minimum 500$ purchase... that's near imposible for me... :-(

As said thank you whatever you come out with, the try is worth the thanks.

We hope to add a new page to our website next week devoted entirely to International Shipping. It will explain our policies, have a spreadsheet that can be used to figure the total weight, and it will give a link to the USPS website so interested customers can find out for themselves how much shipping should cost. This will save DF a LOT of time and it will allow us to drop the minimum to $150 (US). Note that there will be a $20 service fee to process an international order, but that $20 can count toward your $150 total.

Believe it or not, DF was spending a great deal of time trading emails back and forth with many prospective International buyers -- only to have many of them NOT buy anything. We were losing money on the operation. I hope by allowing people to figure their own shipping charges that a lot of that "back and forth" can be eliminated, and we can turn the program around. Thanks goes to Stefan for helping to figure out how to structure this thing.

The page should be up by 1/19 -- so everyone will have plenty of time to pre-order the Sci-Fi Beta set if they wish.

Thanks for your feedback. I really wish we could find some international distributors as that would make the products the cheapest for consumers, and it would be best for us. We will keep trying.
