Just finished the third book. I seriously owe you a beer! Those were great books, so much more enjoyable than WOT. I just bought the fourth book and can hardly wait to begin. Hard to believe I had never heard of this outstanding series.

HUZZAH!

Are you going straight into the Tawny Man series or going to peel off down to the Live Ship series? The live ship series comes next in terms of timing, but there is only one character from the Assassins series in the LiveShip series. Live Ship is also awesome and done in third person instead of first person. Highly recommend reading them before Tawny Man series.

One question: did you have any weird *skill dreams* while reading the last book?

I am Skilling my books straight to my iPad Kindle app so I don't have to wait for postal delivery. I had bought the first Tawny Man book but after seeing Harneloot's post, will instead get the LiveShip books. I thought Tawny Man came next and then the Fool books.
As for dreams, it seems I am Witted to our boston terrier. He always tries to sit in my lap when I DM. Have you ever considered a Dwarven Forge layout from a dog's perspective?

I bought used copies. They were 1 cent plus $3.99 shipping. So $4 each. Except, one of them offered Amazon prime so I got it for 1 cent :). So $8.01 for 3 books - not bad!

That's a great deal! I am just running out of space for books so for my fiction reading I have moved to Kindle or ebooks. Same thing for my non core gaming books.

I always try to snag them used (usually from ABEBooks) if I can, but may have to move to Kindle just for space reasons.

The Live Ship trilogy picks up time wise right after the end of the Assassin's trilogy. Then the Tawny Man trilogy (Fool's Errand, Golden Fool & Fool's Fate) picks up time wise right after the Live Ship books. The Liveship books are all about the Rainwilds, and the Bingtown Traders and pirates and serpents, and its written from 3rd person perspectiver instead of 1st, but there is one character from the Assassin's series that is an important person in the Live Ship trilogy, only you kinda have to figure out who it is :)

Reading the Liveship books really fills in a lot, so that when you go back to the Tawny Man series you are *armed* (in a sense) with the needed info to make mroe sense of what happens in that series. Plus, Captain Kennit, Althea, Paragon, Wintrow etc are all wonderful characters in their own right. The Live Ship books are just as full of excellent characters and writing!

I'm re-reading them all right along with you and loving it! (just finsihed Assassin's Apprentice!)

Harneloot – Wanted to add my thanks for the Assassin’s Apprentice recommendation. I spend two hours a day commuting and am always looking for good audio books. After reading this thread I downloaded the unabridged Assassin’s Apprentice and have been listening to it in my car. I find myself sitting in the parking lot when I arrive at work or home not wanting to turn it off until the chapter ends. :)

Finished book 3 and picked up the Tawny man trilogy. Great stuff. If you like these books you will also like Name of the Wind.

Name of the Wind is killing me! I have to make it a rule to only buy a series after it has been completed. I reaaly want that last book!
I should have learned this lesson years ago when David Gemmell died. I was two books into his reimagining of the Trojan War and eagerly awaiting the third when I read he had passed. I was saddened by the loss of a favorite author and left hanging.
That is another reason to appreciate the Assassin's Apprentice, they are all written!!

@Arcarius2001 - How are the Liveship books treating you?

@Feymous - I completely know what you mean! I find myself trying to steal moments here and there, staying up and reading in bed rather than going to sleep///and I've already read them twice!!!

@jericho - loved Name of the Wind, but stopped reading book two half way through because it wasn't a finished series yet. Will re-read book 1 & 2 once book 3 is published! Question: any reason why you jumped right to Tawny Man rather than go to the middle Liveship trilogy?
