A few questions I am interested about the miniatures you use with Dwarven Forge:

1. How many miniatures do you own?

2. Which do you use: pre-painted, paint your own, commission another painter?

3. Which miniatures do you most commonly use in games? (excluding player characters)

4. Which manufacturer is your favorite and why?

5. Add any other questions you have for others
---

My answers:

1. 208; today was the first time I have ever counted.

2. I do all three. I have the new(ish) Reaper pre-paints & Dwarven Forge, I have painted my own as a hobby since I was 7 or 8 years old, and I commission painters.

3. So far the skeleton/undead show up the most.

4. I like the early 90s style of Ral Partha. I like the stuff from Julie Guthrie, Sandra Garrity, & Bob Olley.

Great idea for a thread, I love miniatures!

I have several thousand miniatures. Now a good chunk of these are Mage Knight because I would by booster case after booster case. I also have a lot of the Reaper Legendary Encounters, Dwarven Forge miniatures, a couple hundred Clan War figures, tons of Confrontation and AT-43 miniatures, I have figures from Alternative Armies in both 15mm and 25mm, Chainmail miniatures, various Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals, and who knows what else.

I love prepainted miniatures The Confrontation prepainted miniatures are some of the best I have ever seen. I like the look of miniatures that I have professionally painted more, though. I have painted a few myself, but don't enjoy it much.

The Dwarven Forge orcs and skeletons are really some of my favorite to use in set ups. I bought around 100 amazingly painted old metal dnd miniatures off of ebay for an awesome price, and I think I use them the most.

First picture is some of the Mage Knight figures. Second picture is some of the awesome Confrontation prepaints.

Ye gods! I have never counted them! But I will take a stab at answering anyway.

1. I have somewhere in the vicinity of 400 to 500 minis.

2. Most are prepainted Mage Knights that I rebased, probably at least 150. The rest are a mix of DnD plastic prepaints, old Grenadier and Ral Parthas, some old Citadels and Elan Merch, some Reaper. I bought some of the metals already painted but still a bunch unpainted. I am slowly, very slowly, painting them. I do seem to be getting better, it's just hard to block out the time to paint them.

3. I seem to mostly use my monsters during games. Lately a lot of devils and demons (comes with running the Pathfinder Council of Thieves Adventure Path). But given my choice, it would be dragons!

4. My favorite manufacturer is Grenadier because those were the first ones I ever bought (although Reaper makes some very nice sculpts).

5. I like using the ones I paint as special monsters / npcs. Anyone else do that?

Oh, talking about miniatures. One of my favourite discussions! As I work for GW of course I own a lot of them.

1. How many? Geez, I wouldn't want to count. Let's put it this way. From GW I have around 22 figure cases full of miniatures (each holds around 100 miniatures) from all 3 systems (Warhammer, Warhammer 40.000 and Lord of the Rings). Those are only the painted ones. Unpainted I have around an estimate of another 2-3 times as many lying around. I also own a fairly sized collection of D&D prepainted miniatures. From other companies I only own a few, including Otherworld, Warmachine and Hordes.

2. I use all 3. A few armies were painted by me, a few bought painted and some were commissions.

3. Before a session, I usually take a look at my collection and select those that seem to fit best for what I have planned. Recently I use more D&D because they fit better into my Pathfinder game. Sometimes I use painted miniatures from my shop as special encounters, e.g. the huge Arachnarok Spider from Orks & Goblins.

4. My favourite manufacturer is and will always be GW. I grew up with those miniatures and simply love them. There is no manufacturer who provides more detailed plastic miniatures in the world. Since from the beginning for me miniatures were equivalent with painting them myself, I started doing it myself. My painting standard is not very high (although I work for GW), but it is sufficient enough for the purposes needed. My all time favourites are the skaven, since it was the first miniature I ever bought.

Thanks for reading my babbling.

I'am found of miniature too. As Stefan could say you.
I've got a lot too. Thousands...a lot in crate...
As soon as they are painted they are put in curio cabinet.
They come from a lot of society, dead or not. I am a role player gamer principaly so I want only one of a kind miniature. I am always looking for that beastiary's monster I haven't got yet... that townfolk...
I 'am not very found of caracters I have mine a lot I bought younger but I think It's a player matter of taste.

My favorite living compagnies are reaper (bathalians, gnolls, yuan ti, owlbears...), otherworld, foundry miniature (very expensive but love theim),I've got a lot of goblins and soldiers from BTD (but it's always complicated to receive all).
My favorite dead compagnie is ral partha (I have got a lot of theim).

1. How many miniatures do you own?

10,000+

2. Which do you use: pre-painted, paint your own, commission another painter?

ALL pre-painrtd :-)

3. Which miniatures do you most commonly use in games? (excluding player characters)

All sorts of different monsters - whatever the situation calls for. That's why I have so many :)

4. Which manufacturer is your favorite and why?

DDM was my favorite - cheap, decently painted, wide selection, decent sculpts, easy to store (plastic doesn't break or chip!) and they looked just like the Monster Manual monsters! Now I eagerly await Paizo and their line of pre-painted minis!

If only Otherworld would come painted, I'd have their whole line too!

1. How many miniatures do you own?
Somewhere around 2500-3000

2. Which do you use: pre-painted, paint your own, commission another painter?
I used to paint my own when I first got into RPGing in the 80's. now I seem to not have the time nor patience to paint a great looking miniature. I still atempt it from time to time.

3. Which miniatures do you most commonly use in games?
Orcs,Goblins,Kolbolds,Animals,Great for low level games. Any type of skeletons, other races like dwarves, elves, man. The undead and demon kind find there way into my games alot.

4. Which manufacturer is your favorite and why?
I have Many DDM,and if you like those prepainted minis,a good bet would be for you to pick up Mageknights, I too rebase mine(easy to do) My favorite right now would have to be Otherworlds minis. for there HIGH quiality work and representaion of the old school monster look. gotta paint them though :(

5. Look at all your options out there , there are many great lines of minis and terrain. dont just limit yourself to one or two great lines , you will find something you like from most.

1. I'm gonna guess around 1000 with no duplicates.
2. I both paint my own and use prepainted.
3. This varies widely by campaign.
4. Otherworld is by far my favorite.
5. I would love to use the old Ral Partha but I just can't get over the difference in scale. I do use monsters from the 11 series if the scale doesn't matter (the marid, firbolg etc...) but for human sized they just don't work for me.

I can only guess I have about 5000+ unpainted

I use mostly self painted mini's and many which i traded for or bought at Gen Con Auctions...I have 50 or so plastic D&D mini's

I use low level monsters mostly because my Campaign's are usually low level....I have a 200 Orc army that I painted (non DF)

I like Reaper, Ral partha, Iron Wind, and my current favorite Otherworld Miniatures...

1. How many miniatures do you own? Not enough! Probably around 300-400

2. Which do you use: pre-painted, paint your own, commission another painter? Nothing but pre-painted. I'm no artist. Mostly DDM, some Reaper, some DF.

3. Which miniatures do you most commonly use in games? (excluding player characters)I guess it varies but I would say generally lots of undead.

4. Which manufacturer is your favorite and why? I don't currently have a favorite since the DDM line pretty much ended. I'm interested to see what Paizo has forthcoming, and apparently there is an upcoming D&D skirmish game that may bring DDM back in some form...

How many minis? Role playing wise about 1000. Wargaming wise about 1000.
All metal , no plastic. A handful of resin.

Painting? I paint most of them myself 70%. The other 30% I commission friends or others to do them for me.

Appear the most? NPC's and humanoids (and of cours the PCs). Periodic groups of monsters

Fav Manufacturer? Otherworld and Reaper and GW
