argh, when your laptop stopped to boot, before restoring Vista you had to use first a "live cd" (a cd that can boot an Operative System without an istallation on the hard disk) and browsing on you hard disk, backup all your important files using the LAN or an external device.
or if this, for some reason didn't work, you had to remove phisically the hard disk from the laptop, connect (with an USB adaptor) to another pc, and save the data.
but still now exist the possibility that you can find some images hidden on your hard disk, have you tried software like "Easy recovery" or "GetDataBack" or similar?
if you have overwritten them with new files during the "new istallation" and during these days, the images are lost, but otherwise your images or at least a part, should be still avaiable on your hard disk.
