Clash of the Titans (v2) 4 Years, 4 Months ago
My mates and I will be going to see this at Triples in Sheffield (UK) - it is one of my all time fav films. Is it out in the states first? If it is - are there any reviews that dont give too much away?

CotT opens nationwide (USA) April 2nd in standard and 3D formats.

I don't know of any reviews. However, according to Wikipedia the remake has been in production (off and on) since 2002. Five writers have been involved in an initial script and three re-writes. Leterrier (the director) was an assistant director for Alien Resurrection, and directed the first two Transporter movies, Unleashed with Jet Li, and The Incredible Hulk (2008, the good one). Draw your own conclusions.

Personally, I'm looking forward to it. A lot.

Did you see the movie? If so, how was it (don't giveaway any spoilers, please).

What part of "ecch"...?

I honestly don't know whether it's the movie or me, but I found the whole thing very dissatisfying.

The alteration to the original mythology is inevitable. In some cases, it is actually desirable (Zeus came to Danae as a shower of gold, which obviously meant something different in Ancient Greece than it does now), but in most cases it just serves the filmmakers' desire to force classical mythology to fit a modern theme.

The myth of Perseus had nothing to do with the cruelty or capriciousness of the gods, nor a power struggle on Olympus. The original myth involved the cruelty and capriciousness of people (royalty), and the ability of people to rise to heroism with the gods' help (by their gifts of magic). I think the movie is supposed to be about defying fate and being true to oneself, but there is so much anger and vengeance and arrogance in all of the characters that is easy to miss that theme, and hard to actually like any of the characters.

There is also an unfortunate trend in films to enhance action sequences by moving and shaking the camera to make them more dynamic and realistic, and cutting every couple-few seconds to make it seem like more is happening than really is. What we lose is an actual sense of the sequence of events (especially when cutting between angles and multiple characters or even multiple fights) and the opportunity to get a good look at images on the screen Whatever happened to the "beauty shot", where we got to have a clear, steady look at the monster, or the set, or the ship, or whatever, that the crew worked so hard to make?

Even the callback to the original movie seemed forced and offhanded.

I don't know what I was expecting, but this wasn't it.

Oh, Medusa dies. Spoiler!

This hollywood major prodution is a shame.
As always it doesn't respect at all the mythology and in 1h40 you can't hope for something good.
The old movie was closer of the original "story" than this one.
I think quality became a stranger word for a decade or 2 now.

Well, we all saw it. It was actually o.k. it probably helped that we didn't have high expectations of this film! I think it's a "good B movie" if that makes sense.

One for DVD probably once it comes down to £3

Dave

PS - Yes, any historian/mythology buffs might get mad at the silly and unnecassary changes to Greek Mythology that were made.
