I just lost the special secret door of the ROTA sets, the one which was given if you could buy 3 times the same set. The auction goes up 45 euros (I put a limit of 60$ usd) without postage & package, close of 70% of the price of one DF new set !!!!

This should make Stefan/Jeff change their point of view on special pieces isn't it ?

We got the ROTA entrance alone but not the most useful pieces, the colored cross & the secret door.
I add those special colored intersections "force" us to buy rota sets to fullfill it correctly.
May be it should be great to get those special pieces sold alone or in a special "pack".

Well if you are for a such initiative just reply here.
Please don't reply if you are not interested in it.
It will make a kind of petition.

Hi HQ, excuse my intromision here, I think like you that the special pieces at that price in ebay really sucks, but I don't see how is it a Stefan's or Jeff's concern.

I think they create those pieces by the sake of having them done, so the pieces are "out there" in great setups that people would enjoy and amaze about how great are the DF products. And I think that, given the fact that they are too expensive to made and they can't do lots of them, they give them the use they think is better for business: to encourage pre-orders for several sets.

I think it's unfair that some people gets them and sells them for a little fortune on ebay, but, you know, that's the ethernal curse of capitalism... "if someone is willing to pay that amount for it, I'll sell it to him". The problem in fact is that there are those people willing to pay little fortunes. :-/

Greetings!

I think all opinions should be posted in the same thread. It will give Stefan and Jeff a better perspective on how more of their customers actually feel about the idea, instead of a skewed perspective from positive answers only.

I'm not sure I'm clear on what is being suggested here.
1. Package special pieces (individually or together) at their usual price so DF customers (speculators) can buy them cheap and put them up for auction on eBay.
2. Package special pieces (individually or together) and sell them through the commercial website at eBay-inspired prices.
3. Package special pieces (individually or together) and put them up for auction on eBay, bypassing their own commercial website altogether.

IF DF wants to take advantage of the auction prices they could get for special pieces through eBay, I hope that they will continue to offer special pieces as incentive items with purchases of three sets or more, and put the "leftovers" up for auction. Maybe leftovers could be put up for individual sale through the website for a limited time, and then the remaining inventory (if any) could be cleared through eBay.

After all, if there is money to be made putting special pieces up for auction, DF deserves that money -- not speculators.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a quick economics lesson.

The prices on e-Bay are a result of scarcity. The special pieces are scarce because they are limited runs (smaller runs than the sets they go with) and because they are only available with a minimum order ("leftovers" are sold individually to clear the last of the stock). With only a few special pieces available for auction, the "rarity" of the pieces drives the price up (low supply in the face of high demand equals high price).

As more special pieces become available for individual sale (auction) their scarcity decreases and the price falls. (Increasing supply without a change in demand equals falling prices.) Getting more special pieces on the market will simply bring the (auction) price closer to their actual value.

If there are some actual left overs maybe a good idea would be a reward for those contests. I don't know how many things they would have left though.

My opinion is a bit divided...

the colored rota intersection is very ok in my opinion, cause it is a special painted version of a standard piece.

The secret door is not that good in my opinion, cause you can't get one without the preorder thing.

So in conclusion:
i like special limited offerings for people willign to preorder, but i hate when nobody can get the piece. So best thing
imho is to offer special painted or slightly custopmised versions of standard peices (like wizard did in their miniatures line)
instead whole new special pieces.

Being somebody that pre-orders, I like the special piece that I can only get if I pre-order. There are times that I would probably wait otherwise, so the offer probably does what it is supposed to do (get me to pre-order).
