Hd a horrendous day at work yesterday. Won't go into details, but too much work too many meetings, not enough time. Was very much looking forward to my latest DF shipment- Medieval Furniture, set of 5-ton blocks and my very first RotA set. UPS.com said that the package was left at my front door at around 10am. Joy.

My usual 1 1/2hr bus rode home was uneventful, got to my door- no package. Get inside, my girlfriend is starting dinner, she didn't see a package either. I check in with my downstairs neighbor (my sister- the whole family has shares in a 3-family house)- they haven't taken in my package. Panic begins to set in. I take a quick walk to my local corner store for some odds and ends before dinner and I end up getting shouted at by some crazy woman who I guess feels I should have been chivalrous and let her choose her carton of milk first. Not being in the best of moods, I offer up some advice for her evening's activities (as I'm sure you can guess, I was fairly coarse, but the DF forums aren't the place for such talk). I get home and check in with my upstairs neighbor (sister #2)- still no package. Now I am certain something is amiss.

I've got this crazy neighbor- he's an odd man to say the least. Talks too much about nothing and on more than one occasion we have pointedly asked him not to go through our trash, especially because he mixes the trash with the recycling in his dumpster diving, which could result in a $250 fine from the city. My paranoia had me certain this nutjob had swiped my package (and its not the first time packages left at our front door have gone missing) and would be doing god-knows-what with my limited edition Dwarven Forge set. I was losing sleep thinking about how he would just dumb enough to throw out the box with that huge DF logo on it and how i would need to keep an eye out for just that sort of thing.

As I tried to file a complaint online with UPS, I kept getting denied b/c there was "scan activity" in the past 24 hours. I double-check my tracking info, only to discover it was updated to say my package was delivered *today* to my *rear* door. Got home a couple of hours ago to discover my DF box right at the back door. Needless to say, I'm relieved. Also, I kinda feel bad for thinking the worst of my weirdo neighbor. But then I remember, he rummages through my trash and is generally very creepy, especially around my sisters and my girlfriend.

I hope you found my tale at least somewhat interesting. Does anyone else have any shipping nightmare stories?

Make something idiot-proof and someone will just turn around and make a better idiot.

My DF shipment came yesterday, but the driver seems to think that the package requires a signature. The same thing happened to at least one of my other neighbors. Now I have to hope that the driver can follow the directions on the notice (accept the signature on the "we-need-your-signature" note he left yesterday, and leave the package at the leasing office -- not confident since he fouled up the last set of directions) or I have to spend three hours in the middle of the afternoon on my "day off" (still have to go to work, hope I don't have to stay) at home to accept the shipment.

UPS. What is with these guys?

A friend of mine last winter had to ship his PS3 back to get fixed via UPS. The box that Sony sent him with the label said that the driver must hand deliver it to the door and someone must sign for it when its shipped back to him. He lives on the end of a private drive with his mailbox at the end of the street. The UPS driver dropped it at the base of the mailbox during a snow storm so anyone coming by could pick it up. Fortinely His wife came home for lunch and saw the box there or he may have never gotten his PS3 back.

Another friend of mine got something from Ebay. It was shipped US postal service with a tracking number. He has a PO box so he goes to the local branch to get his mail. The tracking number said it got there but it was not in his box when he picked up his other mail. He thought the other guy screwed him. He kept asking the guys at the branch about it but no one could seem to find it. After about a week one guy at the branch found it. The box was used by another worker there to keep his desk level because one of the small legs was missing. My friend saw the guy pull the box from the desk. Totally unacceptable for people at the Postal service to do something like that.

Ugh. I use to suffer through simmilar problems with my various on-line purchases but then I got a box at the local UPS store. Its an actual address (not a PO Box) and they sign for everything (even my wine shipments!) and are always there. I just swing by after work, pick up my packages and never have to worry! The cost is a very reasonable $5/month.
