Star Trek Movie new version.... 5 Years, 6 Months ago
Well I totally geeked out last night. I saw Star Trek twice. Part of my reasoning is it is "fun" to see people dress up sometimes whether it is for Lord of the Rings or Star Trek. By the second one half way through it I wished I had taken a pain pill but nonetheless it was still throughly enjoyed.

I thought it was great how they explained how the "Star Trek" history is not the same from what it is up to this point. Obviously they got a hint at the success that the new James Bond has had and the reinvented Batman series has had. I fully expect to be seeing many more movies with these characters.

As a side note it was funny to see some people get in a shouting match on what was better Star Trek or Star Wars (probably even more funny since I watched "Fan Boys" Wednesday night). It was half in jest I think but it was still entertaining. I reframed from mentioning to the group as a whole that at the end of the credits you will see the special effects was done by "Lucas Arts Light and Sound Studio" what ever its official name is at any rate. I just spotted the "Lucas Arts" part for sure.

At any rate it is a great movie and recommend folks to see it if for no other reason to just have a good time.

I can not wait. I am going to take a long lunch today to see it. I have not done that since matrix part deux.

The most important question is: are there Orion slave girls in the flick?

Hello All,

Just got back..... I liked the movie. Entertaining. Cheesy over the top action but it was great! I could not help but think that Shatner would have loved to do this kind of ST in his hey day.

Orion, yes.
Girl, yes.
Slave, no.

It's fun, but it tries too hard in a few places to be an "authentic" Star Trek movie, from some of the references to Karl Urban's attempts at his DeForest Kelly impression. Still, I enjoyed it.

They could have hired Kevin Pollack to give lessons on doing Shatner.

:D

I'm sure I'll see this one. It's gotten great reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Simon Pegg Rules! I'm a big fan (Shawn of the dead, Spaced, Hot Fuzz, Run Fatboy run, the big nothing...) Sorry Shawn! :-) and I think that despite my first disbelieve of Karl Urban being Bones, he has managed great!!! I think he mimics the Deforest interpretation really good.

A great great movie, lots of amazing action and special effects that weren't there in the classic series and creates some sense of "star wars mix", but I think Abrahams has treated very well the series. With all my respect to Mr. Shatner and the rest of the crew, and of course the work of Mr. Roddenberry.

Greetings!

P.S: By the way... has someone seen our new Sulu in "How I met your mother"?? XDDD cool!

The shot of Scotty at the end. If I did not know any better, I'd swear it was Doohan. Its THAT close.

I worked on the Orion "slave" girl- she wasn't green enough in original photography, so we had to do a ton of stuff in post to get her to look more... green. Among other effects elsewhere

Glad to hear you guys mostly like, it's always fun to work on a movie that people actually enjoy...

Now if only I could convince IMDB I worked on it... (have to wait til I see it again to take a picture of my name in the credits)

I would have loved to have "worked" on the Orion slave girl as well. :D

Curious, did you expect to make her more green in post or was it something that just came up? Did you orginally think the body paint or whatever was used in photography was going to be enough?
