The movie most definitely looks cool. They appear to have captured the feel of the comics.

Only concern is that there seems to be some licensing concerns about rights to the IP and movie which I heard might threaten the release.......Haven't heard an update since. Anyone know anything more?

Stefan, I am SO looking forward to this. I read the graphic novel ages ago, and they've really done an amazing job in bringing it to life. It looks like they're going into painstaking detail to be true to the graphic novel.

I'd long ago mused on cast choices for a Watchmen movie. I pictured William H. Macy as Rorschach, and Blue Man Group as Dr. Manhattan.

I expect them to drop a ton of material, especially the pirate comic book.

How long are we expecting the movie to be? Or is it possible that they will break it into two or three movies? If the miniseries format had a better track record for ratings or production values, I'd say that was the proper format for something like this, but apparently the revenue is there to justify proper budgets to do justice to any source material, let alone a visual extravaganza like Watchmen.

I think it's going to be one movie, but the DVD will doubtless have tons of bonus material.

Hahaha! Blue man group is brilliant! William H. Macy would be pretty good for Rorshach, for sure. Small and vicious.

Stefan, I completely missed this one too until recently. Just blasted through it in a couple days while touring Europe. I kept forgetting to look at the ruins in northern England because I was so caught up in the story. Excellent reading.

Jack, the pirate dialog was awesome. It was killer how well the writer lined up the events and dialog to the actual story line.

<<I expect them to drop a ton of material, especially the pirate comic book.>>

Actually I saw an interview with the Zack Snyder and supposedly they did the pirate comic as an animated short he wants to include somewhere in the film. My guess is it will probably end up in the DVD extras, though, as the film currently still stands at 163 minutes after already being edited for time. Hopefully they won't cut any more. I read the comic as each issue came out (boy, I'm dating myself) and still think its one of the best things I've ever read. I remember at the time it won an award for best fiction in England, causing quite a stir at the time, as no comic had ever even been nominated, leading them to add a seperate catagory for comics thereafter.

That's very encouraging news, even if it does end up a DVD extra.

Oddly enough, the longer the movie is the worse its box-office potential could be. A three hour movie can't be shown as often as a two hour movie due to time constraints, and many moviegoers allow time considerations to influence their viewing choices. (I only saw the new Batman movie three times -- I probably would have seen it every weekend (matinee king, here) except that it would eat a solid four hour chunk out of my Saturday.) The longer a movie is, the better it has to be.

Fortunately, the source material is absolutely top-notch.

I just hope it's not exclusively an action movie...the long running time leads me to believe that there are slow paced and reflective moments...This would have been a perfect movie for Peter Jackson to direct, but I'll put faith into Zack....

There's a new trailer up at the main site, shows a bit more. Definitely looks like it is following the book very close. Visually it s incredible how close it mirrors the art. I saw the promo posters and they are exact life-like duplicates of the original drawn comic promo posters. Its as if the comic pages came to life. i cannot wait.
