Hey folks we weathered fairly well with a few downed trees and minor leaks in the roof. How are you doing Shadlox and Dr Elmo???

Glad to hear all is well. Sounds like it was a close call for a lot of people in that area.

Well I still do not have power and am being told I will not have power until Tuesday at best. Our sub station caught fire. 2 days ago I drove upto Memphis Tn from houston to purchase a generator with all the parts to hook it up to my box through a transfer that was big enough to run my whole house and on eof my air conditioner units. I got back home late yesterday and sjpent today cutting through my brick wall and installing the inlet and transfer box. All installed and working. WoooHooo. Sprint card working. Now I have to wait until I can get a backhoe and permit and I will be burying 110 gallons of diesel fuel in my backyard and vacuum pumping it to my generator. So next time the power goes out it kicks in automatically. I also have the conversion to run it on natural gas instead of diesel. In any case I am prepared. Not much damage to my house. Neighbor has a pine tree through his second floor. All in All I am fine and so is my family.

PS. IKE ruined my plans for my 10th wedding anniversity. My anniversity was a few weeks ago but the party was scheduled for the 13th. :-( Where in the living daylights was the Heiphant (sp?) druid when you needed him to stop/divert the storm.

Just glad to hear you and yours are all okay. I was beginning to worry when you didn't respond to whitewind on the 15th!

It's now the 19th; WHEN are you taking Mrs. Shadox out for that anniversary party???
Don't forget, you HAVE to sleep sometime.

Take it easy, have a good one, guy. The blessings of Pelor upon all of yours.

Shad, glad you're okay, and same to Whitewind. It's bad enough that we've blowhard politicians this year without hurricanes on top of it!

Harneloot,

Believe it or not most of the things I learned are from teh home depot do it yourself books. I have never really had the money or rather the desire to part with my money on home projects. I got that from my dad. (He was a professional carpenter and in the winter worked a smelt. We also had a small 80 acre farm we grew corn for purina) Between what I know and what instructions come with the transfer box and inlet plug it was not to hard. The thing you need to make sure is that you have it connected correctly so as to not give feedback to the grid and the guy at the end of hte street working on the wires gets shocked. I tested everything and then went live. It actually is cool.

FYI I got approved for a 165 gallon tank!!! The tank costs 450 and with the backhoe rental I probably will be out another few hundred but will be well prepared. Now I need a water filtration system to purify water in case ours ever goes out. I have a well on my property that the railroad used to use but it is capped. I plan on removing that cap and getting water in case of emergency.

By the way I have found through this crisis the best watch dog is not my mutt, but an the sound of my mossberg pump action or at least the kids who were trying to "borrow" my diesel that was chained to the water pipe thought. The dog did not scare them but the sound of the Mossberg helped remind them that they were not in kansas anymore and that the diesel belonged to me.

Shadox -

Remember what I told you at Olive Garden about that magic 'cha-chack' sound when it's 3 AM and the stairs are creaking?
Works like a charm, doesn't it? A-MAZ-ING how fast some amateur free-lance socialists can run when that sound effect comes from behind them - or from ANYwhere out of the dark!
The BEST use for any mutt is as an alarm system; HE wakes YOU up! YOU scare the Hell outta the intruder - and AS A LAST RESORT, dispatch said goblins for The Nether Regions!
Then drag their bodies inside the house.
Then erase the security camera tape.
THEN call 9-1-1.
ALWAYS have your priorities in the CORRECT order!!
