One neat thing... Johnny Depp just sent his hat from the movie Public Enemy to a kid here in town right after the flood, along with a package of movie items. FEMA arrives tomorrow and about 70% of the town lost everything in their basements and 1st floors. It was eerie driving around and looking at the piles of belongings in front of peoples houses and the scavengers going around in pickup trucks taking junk from other people's garbage that was less water damaged than their own.

We didn't get it as bad as Cedar Rapids so we were (comparatively) lucky (luckier).

I've been known to grumble about people who build in flood plains, but when the flood plain is measured in square miles because ITS ALL FLAT, you don't really get much selection, do you?
It's places like Vicksburg, or NOLA, where either it just doesn't make any SENSE to build at all, or it doesn't make sense to build HOMES below the cliff, where people need to learn. New Orleans needs to move to the north shore of Ponchartrain; Vicksburg needs to get the houses up on the bluffs.
But CEDAR RAPIDS? DES MOINES? DAVENPORT? C'MON, Mother Nature! Gimme a BREAK! Most of IOWA is the same elevation - FLAT! (Yeah, I know; not really, but it might as well be.)

Aracon, Dante, the rest of you guys; I hope all gets better SOON for all of you. Dry up, but don't blow away!
Stefan, here's to a good, tight roof, okay? I'd offer you my ALPS 1300 printer, but it doesn't work either!

Yeah, my basement got flooded last week as well. The DF stuff seems to be OK, as are most of the miniatures. Lost some RPG books, though, as well as some furnishings and carpet.

Monte, sorry to hear that Milwaukee got it as well. We're pretty devastated from Iowa to Wisconsin and beyond. I'll post up some flood pics as it was crazy to see canoes going down the street... and buses rescuing people a couple blocks away who were swamped out.
