Cory's plane crashed about 20 blocks from my house...pretty surreal...

My thoughts go out to the family. We must remember that it's a horrible tragedy for his Wife and Son and anyone else that was hurt.

At first, I thought we were under attack again, My Wife called from work and rushed home, it brought a lot of memories back...

never a dull moment around here...

Tragedy can strike anywhere, whether it's planned or not. We're all glad you and Mari are safe.

MY big question is this; WHAT was that instructor thinking, having a pilot with 75 hours total, and probably less than 20 in multi-engine (IF my information is correct that it was a twin-engine aircraft), zipping around over ANY major Metro, in the rain and low clouds, under VFR flight, at low altitude?

Excuse me, but SOMEONE screwed up here! I'M not calling it Pilot Error, unless we specify Instructor Pilot Error. Damn it, this kind of stupidity has GOT to stop, before we end up with NO general aviation operations allowed in this country.

Not to mention that the Yankees (even though they are NOT my favorite team, even supposing me to be a baseball fan, which I'm not) have lost a helluva good pitcher. My feelings go to his family, and indeed, to his soul; I do NOT believe it was his fault! Nor do I blame equipment malfunction. I honestly believe it was a major misjudgement on the part of that instructor; crazy winds at low altitude over a metro area, PLUS less-than-wonderful visibility, PLUS a low-time student pilot; it only would take a split-second's distraction - easy to have happen over NYC - and we get one light-twin into someone's high-rise Manhattan condo - which was just over a mile from Stefan and Mari! As it is, we lost two on the ground, IF the reports are correct.

Stupid instructors kill more people than stupid students, every time. In TOO MANY different pursuits, vehicular and otherwise.

See ya!

Yeah, I can't imagine what went wrong...but it sure seems that much risk was taken without need and that the instructor should have known better...
