TOPIC: A ridiculous use of the moderator's time and energy

A ridiculous use of the moderator's time and energy 8 Years ago
Well boys and girls I received the following, very interesting e-Mail from moderator.
A couple forum members have contacted me with concern about this post, specifically this text:

I actually traced back one of the SF-MM OOP rumors back to a group of gamers on the Olympic Peninsula that thought if they could get folks around the country to stop buying Science Fiction Master Maze, Dwarven Forge would sink all of their resources into Fantasy Master Maze including a sewers Master Maze.
I took care of that problem already.
A couple of Rangers, who are Sci-Fi gamers I know, were quite willing to help me visit and set these folks right.
The visit was fun even in a slightly demented sort of way.

I'm sure you meant this in jest, but you might want to address this in the forum lest people continue to get the wrong idea.

Moderator.

The aforementioned quote is mine from another section's posting removed from its written context, but that is beside the point at hand.
Since the moderator, in his own words, has given me leave to address the matter, let me do so.
Addressing this issue within the thread it was made monstrous is wrong; it is another attempt by some folks to hijack the main Science Fiction Master Maze thread.
So far they have been thwarted, and I am not about to contribute to their efforts in the least.
Therefore, I placed this response in the Non-Gaming Talk area, which area is the only appropriate portion of the forum to do so.

I do have queries first:
Since when have I butted in to question anyone else's actions here in their off-forum lives with the powers-that-be on this forum?
Additionally, what right do any one of us here to do so?
Giving advice is one things - I am guilty of that charge, but so are most of us that regularly post here on the DF forums - we all do it from time to time.
But questioning one's off-forum activities via the forum's powers-that-be?
That has to be in some fashion a violation of CoC; it most certainly overly invasive.
It most certainly worse than SPAMMING and that is definitely against the CoC.
I just hope that it was just some souls trying to get my goat rather than some folks who really believe they have the right to do so.

As far as the visit quoted afore, the simplest accurate answer is that none of the three of us violated the UCMJ.

Next time folks, take up a matter you have concern of about me with me instead of running to the "principal", okay?
My e-Mail IS listed here.

Well, that message implies that you tracked down some folks for their "anti sci-fi MM" activities and, with the aid of some "heavies", "leaned on them".

If you are telling the truth, that would be considered disturbing behavior by many folks (as well as "overly invasive"), and someone that had a vehement anti-sci-fi MM agenda could feel threatened: "Hmm..I don't agree with the aguments in favor of more sci-fi mm and have my own ideas about what sets they should produce...but I better keep my mouth shut..I don't want to be getting any unexpected visitors"

Imagine if a group of fantasy MM enthusiast, insluding some presumably tough-as-nails servicemen, tracked you down and "had a discussion" about how your sci-fi lobbying was holding up their sewer set.

EDIT: As well, the idea that such activities are occuring due to MM products does not reflect well upon the company...someone reading that may think something along the lines of "Whoah...some heavy stuff goes down over the MM stuff...maybe I don't want to be involved with this product...nobody gets any unexpected visitors over ainsty or hirst"

The board is the DF "school"...why shouldn't "students" take their concerns to the "principal"..it's his job after all.

blairgb, your explanation sounds like a seriously guilty conscience, but that is your own coil to resolve.
There is so much I could say here, but it would get wiped so I will spare myself the effort.

In the future, try to manage if you have a grief and just message direct.
Involving the moderator was a bit ... well, you know, from my earlier analogy.

Hi All!

Boy, talk about taking someone seriously the ONE TIME he shouldn't be!

C'mon, gang; RabidFox* has certainly, in the past, been slightly, shall we say...RABID?...in his defense of his views. That's okay; I could think of several of us who have been AT LEAST slightly guilty of the same thing
(No you can't! Don't try to pin THIS one on ME! I wasn't even there that night!)
(I wasn't talking about you; do YOU have a guilty conscience, too? You shouldn't; after all, I don't.)
Both of you shut UP! I'm pontificating here.
Sorry folks; split personalities can be Such a Bother sometimes. (Can NOT!)
Ignore him; he thinks he's Sgt. Rock. But then, that's okay; the other one thinks he's James Bond, and the two of them can get me in more Trouble!

But I digress.

Many of us who are Military veterans have a somewhat right-handed thread on our sense of humor; we tend to joke about things in a decidedly aggressive way. Not all of us, and those of us who DO, don't do it all the time. Throw in the Fox's dry tongue-in-cheek way of writing when he's goofing around, and sometimes I get a little nervous.

The worst part is this; Rangers have a reputation as super bad-@$$ warriors. Actually, they're real control freaks as well; I've known and worked with some, and they NEVER do things like was implied, regardless of how many horror stories the liberal media have told. Not as a group; an individual can always go nuts, no matter who he is, but for a Ranger team to go off the deep end and physically attack a civilian; Uh-UH!
As RabidFox said in his post, that would be a VERY SERIOUS violation of the UCMJ; people GO TO JAIL behind that kind of conduct. In fact, if a civilian was seriously injured or killed, some GI would be EXECUTED behind that! DoD does NOT condone murder, nor will it tolerate aggravated assault, mayhem, torture, or any OTHER stuff as was implied! And the DoD DOES have capital punishment for crimes such as those. Nor does DoD accept such varied defenses as "Criminally Insane" or the like; their philosophy is a combination of "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time" and "NOT in MY Army, dummy!"

RabidFox* typed before he thought with the commentary on Ranger retributions in defense of the Sci-Fi DF line; BUT he did NOT incite any Rangers to commit court-martial grade crimes. His 'crime' was using MilSpec humor on a civilian-grade forum, where it would not be considered in the tongue-in-cheek manner it was intended.

Just my 2 cents worth, guys.

Okay, back to the games!!

See ya!

Nope, no guilty conscience here. I didn't involved the moderator...I made my own "tounge-in-cheek" response to your post, but I can certainly understand why some folks would.

Well, that was not the clearing of the air and allaying of fears that I had hoped for. I will continue to address this issue in private.

Lesson learned. Thread locked.

Moderator.

P.S.: No poster's concerns are ever a waste of my time and energy, especially when they relate to issues of legality and safety.
