Jim,
True, you have a lot less hassles with the law with regards to legality of the addiction, but DF addiction hits the bank balance as hard as any other addiction. And there's always more you need :) The only bonus is once purchased, the stuff doesn't go away..............but it does make you want more.......hmmmmm....that's the definition of an addiction isn't it? :D

Okay my turn to pipe in.

Guess since I'm posting in the Who are you thread, I had better introduce myself.

My name's Sam.

I hail from sunny Queensland, Australia, about half an hour away from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, both with some amazing beaches on them.

Married, but no kids to fight over the toys as of yet.

Have been gaming now for over 20 years. Started off with D&D, but have ranged far and wide with my gaming. Current group detests the D20 ruleset and are Savage Worlds converts. As far as I'm concerned, a game is a game, provided the group is cool and we all have fun :)

Have only just stumbled upon DF stuff and like all great 'designer drugs', have gotten very addicted. And purchasing the stuff is putting a great dint in the bank balance.

Problem now is finding somewhere to stash the stuff. Have a house, but the wife kinda doesnt like my every growing pile of DF stuff plus the associated miniatures that are starting to build up.

Thanks for the warm welcome I have experienced so far from everyone in the forum :)

Sam -

Welcome to the nut farm!
Now, about that storage problem;
Got a basement? Crawl Space? Attic? Spare bedroom? Garage? Shed out back (as opposed to outback)? Treehouse?
Slide the boxes under the couch in the living room.
Under the bed.
Behind the china hutch. Or on top of it.
Hide them behind your mother-in-law's picture on the old upright piano in the parlor.
Stash them at work.
OR - best solution of all! - GET MRS. LUPUS involved in gaming and let HER find somewhere to store the DF when not in use!
Hey, don't laugh; that's what Sandy did with me! SHE'S been a gamer MUCH LONGER than I have! And yet I have to do all the GM work!

Hmmm . . .

See ya!

Hahaha
Jim, tried that one already.

And it kinda worked too........got into Deadlands big time. Until one of the other players brought his wife along. Not that there was a problem, since in the game we actually have 3 couples. THe problem was the new player was also not a gamer, and she took everything personally. For some reason she got a chip on her shoulder about us, and she made everything in game a popularity contest between the GM and his wife and us? Not that we really gave a damn....but as time progressed things got uglier until it became an us vs them problem, which tore the group apart.

My wife kinda lost it and said something to the effect that if games are like this, she might as well go back to high school

has been a real chore to slowly get her back into gaming :) So DF is way too early :)

As a side note, it kinda got pretty hairy with the other gamer too, since he felt obligated to side with his wife. Got so bad that he was not invited to many games for a good couple of years and is only now slowly ingratiating his way back.

Funny story though, and the straw that broke the camel's back was the last D&D campaign they played. I wasn't in it due to work comitments, but from what I heard, she caused no end of chaos resulting in the totaly collapse of the game. SUpposedly, the party decided to sneak into a castle from a back secret entrance, hoping to surprise the bad guys within as well as get the drop on the green dragon within.

The player's wife decided that as a paladin, it was not honourable to sneak into combat (which is fine..........)

However, it was honourable to ride up to the gates of the keep and negotiate with the dragon, informing it that the party was coming in the back way.

Party was almost decimated by the counter attack that they were not expecting. :D

Hahaha,
you only have to reset the clean counter if you succumb to the temptation and purchase more :D

oh yeah, and if this is slight restock is tempting you back to the dark side, what's the new shipment that's possibly coming in going to do to you? :D
