Hello All,
I just wanted to send a quick shout-out to everyone in the DF community. After a long awaited stint of visiting on an almost daily basses I decided to sign up and be a member.

So here I am...

I'm 32 married with one kid and another in the oven and he's almost done, only 5 more weeks to go! :) My love for fantasy role playing started out with an old game by Milton Bradley called Hero Quest. HQ has been my main stay with much added house rules to add variety and enhance game play.

I also wanted to say thanks to all those who take the time to post their pictures of their various DF set-ups. It is a great inspiration and joy to view others talents and creativity in dungeon building. I hope to post some of my own DF set-ups soon. Thanks again and keep posting!

Hi Gumee and welcome !!!

And congratulations, too !!! The next five weeks are gonna fly by, I bet !! I'm fairly new around these forums, too, although I signed on a while ago. Like you, I check the site out daily and drool over some of the layouts (IO just reposted several fantastic layouts he created that a site hack wiped out).

As far as my info:
I'm 39, an architectural and interior designer, married 5 1/2 years with a 2 1/2 year-old daughter and just found out that we, too, have another in the oven !!!
I've always been into miniatures and model making and D&D was my "first love" ;-) I eventually got into the GW miniatures (always more than the actual games) but, since time is an issue these days, I've been enjoying the D&D and now Star Wars pre-painted (oh, and the Lord of the Rings Hex, also). Being a designer, I can't seem to do things small or simple (for myself anyway) and I really enjoy building game tables. My latest "on the drawing board" is a two-level design that would allow modular removal of street level pieces to gain access to lower levels ... of course, with built-in cup holders, dice trays, book shelves and miniature ledges ... it should be done in 2011 ;-) Oh, and my wife suggested that I build a "play room" in the basement for the kids ... heh, heh, heh ... just call her Pandora because she has no idea what box she just opened ;-) Oh, it will be a play room for kids, alright ... ok, two rooms ... one for me to play, and one for the kids to play ;-)

See you around the boards !!

Welcome Gumee

Since you like HeroQuest, did you ever try out Warhammer Quest?
They were both designed by GW; just HQ was manufactured by MB.
Personally, I like Warhammer Quest better.
It had more possibilities from my view and probably takes into account a lot of the house rules you and your friends came up with.
Try it - you might like it!

No, never had the chance to get my hands on a copy. Just from what I've read and seen of the game on the web, it's more of a modular design seems to be more intense game play. The minis appear to be better detailed, but I've subsisted most HQ minis for GW minis. Overall WHQ seems to be a better game.

Gumee -

Welcome to the asylum! We're not REALLY crazy, but we seem to convince most of the mundanes we are!

I'm 54, married for the 3rd time (some of us need to practice before we get it right!), and Sandy (my best half) is also a gamer. This helps us get along, since we share most hobbies (but she can KEEP the stamps and water globes!).
Since I work on database design, etc., for a State government agency during the day, gaming nights or weekends is a real welcome escape for me! Although lately, I've been spending more time designing game accessories, etc., than I have playing! Check the Cool Photos section for some of the results.
Funny thing is, I never even considered D&D until a friend of mine tried to get me into GW/WH40K. I did some of it, went looking for interior scenery for battles, found DF, and promptly dropped 40K for D&D! I've gotten some into DragonStar, which is great if you like Sci-Fi D&D, and now I've gotten to the point where I'll combine Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and D20 Modern in a heartbeat! I LOVE crossing universes, it's a ball!

See ya 'round the boards; gotta go fix a computer!
