You just never know where you're going to wind up on the 'net when you start chasing down leads...

I was trolling through a Detroit television news station's website trying to see if my mom or brother was found
shot in the streets of my old hometown (a morbid thought, but I wouldn't be surprised to read about it someday
on the site) when I came across an odd story about an artist who recently created a life-like statue of none other than Britney Spears--giving birth. They even included a three-quarter image of the sculpture. It's not graphic but shows some nudity: (NOT FOR WORK, THE ARTISTICALLY AVERSE, RIGHT-WING CONSERVATIVES, OR OTHERWISE SENSITIVE PEOPLE): www.clickondetroit.com/entertainment/8321959/detail.html#).

So I decide to look this artist up and I plug his name into google. I get a link to his website and I start tooling around the site trying to see what he's about, what the rest of his work looks like and so on... and what name jumps out at me in big red letters? Stefan Pokorny: www.firststreetgallery.net/season.html (bottom of list of names).

So Stefan, what gives? Do you have some work going on display this summer? Can we have a "sneak peek"?

Yes, it appears that DF isn't the only thing he's good at.

Ah... see... I missed that. I was distracted by a toddler in desperate need of sleep! Stefan, if you're watching--those are some really great paintings. Such skill and brilliant use of light and color. Puts my work to shame. ;-}~

WOW!

Hey Stefan, I noticed, that last one, with the chair; that painting is 50"x60"! What is it, full-size?
That chair looked like I could pull it out of the monitor and sit down.

Mister, I knew you were GOOD by the work on DF; I DIDN'T know you were GREAT until five minutes ago!

Jeff - DON'T let that man out of your sight; he's a national resource for DF!

DF'ers, we got us a winner - but then, most of us already knew THAT.

See ya!

Dante -

If that's your work in the Purgatorio gallery, then you don't have anything to be ashamed of either; it's a different school from Stefan's, but it's no less talented or interesting.
Stefan does realistic, you do surrealistic. What's the problem?
Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks; that's why they make Fords and Chevys. You two Cadillacs should get along just fine, okay?

No, neither one of you is a Michaelangelo or a Da Vinci; but then again, you're both alive, and I suspect growing in skills all the time.
One day, you two will both grow up to be Roll Royces; don't rush things.

All BS aside, Dante, your work IS good. That's MY opinion, take it for what it's worth. Period.

See ya!

Aw, shucks... ::shuffling feet and blushing:: ;-}~

Thanks for the compliment. It's appreciated. I'm totally blown away by Stefan's stuff still.
It's like you could reach out and grab an apple from the dish and take a bite out of it.

There are a lot of other talented posters here too. Poke around the boards long enough
and you'll find musicians, artists, sculptors...

I usually sit quietly behind the scenes and read the stuff here. I haven't posted "regularly"
in quite some time--since the birth of the forums here actually. Maybe I'll get off my duff
and start contributing some content soon. Right after I get this damned game room finished! ::grin::

Thank you so much everyone for all the kind words... I'm having my One Man Show from June 20-July 15th. I'll post some pics.
You might be interested to know that the selling of the "chair" painting Jim refered to financed the start of Dwarven Forge about 10-11 years ago...

Thank you Dante, also for your compliments...I too admired your paintings (had a little trouble seeing them on your site, very slow server? but the one I saw first was very beautiful and reminded me of Dali and Rousseau whose works I really like.

Hi, Stefan, et al... here's a direct link to the image directory: www.purgatorio.com/gallery/images/

Should load a bit faster than the "gallery" portion. I have a very, very old javascript running the "slideshow" so it doesn't surprise me if it's running very slow. I haven't updated my site in years. I affectionately refer to it as my "cobweb". ;-}~

I'd love to see some pics of the stuff that you're showing in June. Please do share when and if you get a chance.

Dali, Magritte, and Frank Lloyd Wright are major influences of mine. The FLW comes out in the woodworking projects I do and the way I order and arrange shapes.

Thanks for the Link Dante,

I liked the "landscape" paintings the best. I hope your art keeps you happy and sane, as mine has done for me.

Best Regards and salutations!

Stefan.

....haven't had much time for my other passion....but here are some recent drawings...first one is a charcoal drawing of Lulu my sweetheart...second one was an experiment in graphite medium (pencil) some guy i didn't know....figure is Lulu, charcoal again...
and btw, i am no longer with the First Street Gallery...I am currently unaffiliated...haven't actively tried to sell my work in years...I have been consumed by DF mostly which is not a bad thing:)
