The AT-AT is out, baby! This thing is HUGE. Very nicely done, solid, good base, and MASSIVE. Haven't had a chance to playtest it or see how the rules work, but it is certainly a cool-LOOKING thing. The price is cah-razy for anyone with a little perspective, since the gigantic Hasbro toy is about $60, with electronic features, moving neck and legs, and so forth, and this is $50 at 25% as large, and no moving parts.

Of course, thanks to the discount policy at my local gaming store, I paid $20 for my AT-AT... ;)

(a punch-card system, and my Underdark purchases left me with a nice fat coupon, plus a store anniversary sale on top of that made me very happy....)

Only downside -- not only does it not fit in well with DoE, it's too big for DF generally (unless you're IO).

:(

Sounds great! My own copy will hopefully arrive next week. Unfortunately I don't think I can expect that much of a price reduction, rather the opposite.

With about three of Attack on Endor sets (to be released in february), the AT-AT and with all the Stormtroopers I alreasy have it would possible to assemble a full-size army based on the Space Marine rules for W40K - even including a couple of "jet bikes"...

I wonder if anyone would buy the concept, though... :-)

When Ghengis Ska was First Talking about this I Thought "Oh Man, I Gotta' Get One of These"... But I Have Since had to Ease Up on my SW mini Purchases... (I Have Not Even Purchased any Universe as yet)... In Fact my D&D Mini Buying Frenzy has Had to Mellow as Well... I did buy three Boosters of Underdark just to See what they Looked like, But Buying an AT-AT is Out of the Question right Now... So I Hope to See some Kickin' Pictures Soon like so that I Might Live Vicariously...<Smirk>...

I was thinking of posting pics of the AT-AT, but the problem is -- it's just so huge! It towers over regular minis, and therefore DF, that it just doesn't photograph well. If you see the minis and the layout, you get just part of one foot of the AT-AT. If you see the AT-AT, there's nothing else in the pic!

If you just want to see closeups of the beast itself, check out www.rebelscum.com , they have a great photo layout of it from many angles. But for cool shots of it "in action," the only way I see that working is if IO did it, in one of his "stacked DF eight feet high" monstrous layouts. Or if a Hirst Arts fan or some other scratch-builder made appropriate stuff for this thing. I mean it's over a foot high! It would only look good with some kind if base that is very tall, and DF just isn't MADE for that -- though, again, IO has done some inspired "breaking down the barriers" stuff, so anything's possible. But probably, sadly, not from me -- I just don't have enough stuff....

Seriously the thing is too big to take nice pictures of.

For those that know of Mel's Paper things, he recently came out with some great Floaters, bought them and made up a bunch with the idea of loading them up with Snowtroopers for our Massive Hoth Invasion Scenerio taking some pictures of the AT-AT and the Floaters with a Few AT-ST's but the AT-ST's just at Huge and very tall dwarfing many of the figures, are hard to photo nicely, since the AT-ST can walk under the AT-AT... it was just a really crappy picture and i scrapped it....

Maybe on this Tuseday if i can pile up enought DF or other stuff behind it...

But Did run it in a scenerio staigth from the book...

The map is much to short for the movement,
it always has to move...
Not constrained by a map and with some nice terrian and lead time it could be very fun.

MLV-

The Super Star Destroyer would be bad enough. What was it, the Imperator-class?
I'd have to go check my novels, and I'm at work, where they don't let me play with toys.
Oh, well.

See Ya!

Got my own AT-AT now... It's definitely the largest "miniature" I've ever had! :-)

First thing I did when I brought it home was to go through the box of Star Wars Minis to separate the Stormtroopers, Clonetroopers and Battledroids from the rest. I've only bought around 15 Universe boosters, but out of those I got a total of FOUR Barc speeders. I now have a fairly large army consisting of some 50-60 Troopers, around 40 droids, the four Barcs, and two of the large Viper droids. And when Attack on Endor is released in January I will try to get a trio of AT-ST's to complete the heavy stuff. I'm planning on turning this into a W40K army using the Space Marine codex for the Troopers and possibly the Imperial Guard codex for the droids.

Any thoughts on this?

Sure will!

Now, the only "problem" is that my wife always refer to the AT-AT as my "little chihuhua". Sort of takes away a bit of the majesty and terror....

PS. Actually, I think she is even more of a Star Wars fan than I am, though... :-)
