Okay,

So there is this guy, right, gamer but doesn't like "competitive games" like 40k, Pirates, or really any game where the obsessive compulsive type will hedge on movement always giving himself an extra 1/2 inch or so.

Big Blood Bowl guy.

Anyway he sees this here new fangled Dwarven Forge Sci-Fi terrain. "Wow," he says. I've got to have this stuff thinking back to those original games of Genestealer and Space Hulk.

Guy buys way too much terrain. Twenty boxes by the time his girlfriend finds out. She's not too impressed. They are standing in a game store and he's talking about when his next ten boxes come in. He hadn't really mentioned this to her. He thinks this might be what she meant when she was talking about communication.

Guy finds out that SW Minis in the two gaming stores in area doesn't have casual play, rather pretty much just a tournament crowd.

Guy puts together coalition of SW Minis players who are looking for casual play.

Guy shows up at game store with Sci-Fi terrain and begins setting up...and setting up....and setting up....

One person shows up for first SW Minis night. Looks at terrain is totally blown away, talks about how cool the terrain is and how much fun they are going to have playing on it.

Then he says, "Let's play on the map in your SW Starter set tonight, instead."

Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

The guy is thinking about an upcoming tournament and wants to play on "official maps."

Aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

That being said SW Minis, I can now say having played two games is fun! Packing boxes and boxes of terrain to game store setting up and not playing on it is not.

While i Love my DF, i don't use it for the Minis Skirmish, the simple maps, and tiles are fine for me.

I use my DF for RPG :), hope to put up pictures from last nights game.

Well, well, hello Zug.

First, understand that not telling your significant other (aka girlfriend), especially a woman who feels that you are part of her life, about the spending you do, especially on an interest that she has no interest in or is negative about, is committing relationship suicide.
If she is a truly important part of your life, then you had better get into the habit now of not spending more than a dollar or two without some sort of forewarning or open admittance to her.
Otherwise, you might as well pack up your toys and find yourself a new place before she goes and finds herself a man that actually respects her opinions and thoughts that she is more compatible with.

So, you are enjoying your SW figs.
That may be good.

So Zug, you like BB.
Not much of a revelation really with the pseudonym you have here.

BB was an okay game.
I was a real fan once upon a time.
I had 43 BB teams; most of which were conversions -minotaurs, ogres, Tileans, Estalians, Kislevites and so forth.
I had all of the official 3rd edition teams twice with full support personnel groups (head coach, a. coaches, wizard, apothecary, cheerleaders, etc.) painted up differently and with slightly different rosters.
I had all of the 2nd edition star players and a couple of teams.
I even picked up DungeonBowl and the 1st edition BB's Death Zone.
Since I was working at the evil empire, I was able to get a full team of Gary Morley's Norse about two years before they were released.
I even created a Skaven cheerleading squad with a Pack Master as head cheerleader with bloodied and bruised human, dwarf, high elf and dark elf cheerleaders forming the rest of the squad.
It was the idea of: cheer for the team or be punished.
I had even thought about building a stadium a good while back.
I have let it all go these days.
The figs just sit into their cases these days and the stadium never got past the design phase.
Not much into anything that GW creates these days other than the occasional vehicle chassis I might need.
I developed other interests.
Such is life.

You, Zug, might want to reconsider how you spend on gaming to include your girlfriend more.
Otherwise, you might be finding yourself alone one day in the near future.

I'll pass on the relationship advise from you Rabid, but thanks for thinking of my best interests.

How we each spend our discretionary income isn't really something that we have to negotiate.

I for one don't think that it is necessary to have as many shoes as there are days in the year, however I've not been able to impress her that this might be a reasonable position yet...

In reality her concern isn't financial, I was trying to be funny, but rather that we are both congested in the tiny apartment I leased when I came to school here. When she sold her house and we put everything in storage she moved into my tiny little student apartment. We are actively looking to buy an apartment or a house, but haven't found the right one yet. That being said I have a feeling all my terrain and gaming stuff is going to be "in the way" at its own risk.

I was really suprised that she enjoyed plaing SW Minis. As she won the game she started singing the Dark Side music from Star Wars and stacked up all her kills at the bottom of the DF platform we'd built from the Alpha set.

The amazing girlfriend wants me to add that she "kicked my a$$" the time we played SW Minis.

She did the evil Sith music from the original trilogy as she won...

You might pass on the advice, but I am quite positive that every married man or woman here would give you the same advice.

Understand, if you ever marry this woman or even just carry on a relationship like marriage without the ceremony, there will come a time that there is no such thing as "discretionary income" unless the two of you agree that there is, possibly even have to place it in writing.
Children will even further the chance of the existence of such an animal.

You want to change her Zug?
You are out of your freakin' mind!
Every last person I have known or heard about that had that attitude going into a relationship has been doomed to despair.
People rarely change personality behaviors; they simply mask them.
After time, that masking builds resentments that blow sky high that destroy the relationship.
I have seen it happen many times kiddo.

I strongly suggest that you simply accept her "wart" of shoe buying as long as your "family" financially can and understand that she undoubtably is tolerating also a "wart" of your own.

Rabid there was a reason you were removed from this board.

If I need your counseling or sage wisdom, believe me I'll ask. Until that question is posed why don't you focus on your own relationships and your self-image as the philosopher king.

I was attempting humor about the girlfriend's reaction and as well about her shoes. Her single and only concern is that I keep this stuff out of the way in our tiny little bandbox of a student apartment until we can buy a house or get a condo.

Please don't feel that you have wisdom or advise to share.

Believe me, just as in real life people are not knocking down your door to listen to your pedantic meanderings... (for that matter neither are they mine, which is strange because my sign does say "Open")

My girlfriend and I have a very healthy relationship and communication is actually one of our strengths. I can see that you don't struggle with this, because your wife worships you for a god and patently agrees with all of your decisions and ideas. I'm not so sure I'd enjoy the emotional abuse that precipitates that condition, or the shell of an intellect that would allow it to persist, however to each his own.

Money is not an issue for us currently, and I'm very grateful for that because not everyone has that level of comfort and security.

I know from your previous posts that you are sensitive to the scarcity which dictates your current gaming boundaries and acquistions. Your rants regarding large DF layouts, comments about how people spend to much on Dwarven Forge, and ad hominem attacks on posters signature displaying DF sets owned as "bragging" all precede this current posting of yours.

In that context, I do find it strange that you have chosen to enumerate your entire Blood Bowl collection. For the record there have never been more than 20 blood bowl teams that were official or even reasonably vault teams. I've been playing this game since 1st edition, and quite frankly there aren't even that many Blood Bowl minis to collect. As I love this game, as do many, we've managed to collect almost the complete collection that has ever been produced. Blood Bowl is a very affordable GW game to attempt to collect as there just aren't that many Star Players and/or Teams. When you were working at GW the official and unofficial team total would have been about what 12? You have a fine collection, however I still would never play a game with you. I play Blood Bowl for fun...

Please attempt to refrain from posting ad nauseum regarding topics not germane to Dwarven Forge terrain or directly related to the miniatures and accessories that are incorporated in the games we all enjoy.

Very clearly, please rethink why you would believe that the community in general would benefit from your self image as a misunderstood genius.

Just as in real life, and I know it is hard for you, try to pick up on the social cues. If they close the door as you approach their office, that might mean something...

GS, why do you not use DF for skirmish games?

RabidFox*

Many reasons, one as said above
1" the simple maps, and tiles are fine for me".
1a, they are fine becuase i can drop ALL of them (6 offical maps, all of the tiles and lord knows how many fan sourced maps) into one box the size of a DF box and take everything to a Skirmish.

That Aside
2 I don't play at my house, as Zug so deftly pointed out, LUGGING the stuff first to my car, then driving it to my FLGS (30+ min away), lugging it all out of the car, down stairs and them setting it up takes a lot of time, and energy. It is more than i want to bother with, (since it is an open gameing room i'm not going to leave it there so i would have to lug it there and back, and if i left it there i would not be able to use it for the RPG, so if i took it to Skirmish).
3 Repeat that for my RPG every week, along with a pack pack of books, a large box of minis, and my Laptop (soon becomes a hassel)
4 I use it for the RPG, and it is easier to leave the Shear number of boxes at that House where it is safe, and i cairred it in once, and will carry it out once

For Me they are two different things the Skirmish and the RPG
I am very casual with the Skirmish and the Maps are fine for it, (and after having many e-mail conversations with Cristopher West the artist for them and hearing what goes into them and some of the processe involved i respect the work and art put into it. I have the same respect for the Dwarven Forge as well, but the shear ease of using the maps for the one thing they were designed for out ways the hassel of using Dwarven forge for it in my mind, and allows us to leave the RPG set ups where they are between weeks.

Hey Ghenghis Ska,

I just downloaded 118 pages of gaming goodness last night, printed it out and tossed all my previous Old Republic Notes. I just want to say, other than some editing issues, this is the most impressive fan based gaming product I have ever seen, and I am an old geezer. It surpasses many published products and completely met my needs.

I am sorry for hijacking a thread on this board but I haven't done it before and I figured I was due. :) Plus this supplement is in credible.

If I have questions and comments on the Knights of the Old Republic Sourcebook, where should I go for discussions etc?

Most discussions are in the thread on the Wizards board, or just PM's or e-mails. The other half is almost ready but a few things have gotten in the way, the thing in my sig , and another project or two. One will be done with in less than 10 days, and the other has been in the works for so long i'm not going to push it to the front over finishing up the second half, i just had some writters block on certian bits of the other one, it's about 85% done, just need to finish up some bits but some RotS stuff has been getting in the way...

Wow!
That was certainly a reply.
Hey Zug, I thought we were supposed to be playing nice these days and not picking on folks.
At least that is what Jeff told me a few days back.
Are you exempt Zug?

Rabid there was a reason you were removed from this board.

A trump card you played, and mind you, it only had one play Zug.
I have talked to Jeff and others have talked to Jeff.
Zug, do not think you have a great deal of room to maneuver.
There were several who felt that you should have gone as well.
That is now in the past, yes?
So let us play nice, and there will not be any problems, yes?

If I need your counseling or sage wisdom, believe me I'll ask. Until that question is posed why don't you focus on your own relationships and your self-image as the philosopher king.

I was attempting humor about the girlfriend's reaction and as well about her shoes. Her single and only concern is that I keep this stuff out of the way in our tiny little bandbox of a student apartment until we can buy a house or get a condo.

Believe me, just as in real life people are not knocking down your door to listen to your pedantic meanderings... (for that matter neither are they mine, which is strange because my sign does say "Open")

You posted about your relationship on an open forum.
By so doing you provided the opportunity, if not outright asked for comment.
If you do not want comment, then do not post it on an open forum next time, okay?

Why publically criticise your girlfriend here about her shoes Zug?
That was not very nice to her on your part.

I never had the hubris to put out a sign Zug.

You may not feel I have any wisdom or advice (BTW, correct spelling) to share, but many here would agree with what I have said on the relationship subject.
Sixteen years of successful marriage to a wonderful gal with two great children would be said by some to have experience worth sharing with others.
I will stop on the subject though because I have been reminded by that wonderful gal about the pearls and swine issue.

You are sadly wrong to characterize my wife this way.
I do not think I have ever met any woman with a stronger will and intellect and believe you me, I have met and dated a good many women in my time.

My wife worships me?
Thanks for the laugh.
Like-minded does not mean anything you characterized it as.
I can imagine the fights royale you and your girlfriend go through if you two are not like-minded at all.

I have not shown/read this part of your posting to her.
I would like to keep the paint on the walls of my house!
Simply put, with the least fanfare, you have done a great dis-service to my wife with this characterization.
The woman you described simply does not exist and if you insist that this is my dear Ragamuffin (her pseudonym on the WEB), then you are trying truly to insult her outright.
That would definitely not be playing nice Zug!

I am sensitive to the scarcity of money.
Not for me, myself, but for 90% of the gamers I have associated with coast-to-coast.
Ask some of the gamers here about how much they can spend in a year's time on gaming, especially the married with children ones.
I am very lucky compared to many others that I can spend the sheer amount I do on gaming.

When you have children and actually want and love them Zug, you will understand about multi-tasking your money.
The parents here on this forum all understand exactly what that means.

Honestly, I do feel that a few of the signatures are simple bragging Zug and I am not the only one who says so if you read the pertinent posts.
When I make a list here, it is to make a one-time point, not to brag.

Sometimes though I really wonder if you actually read the whole posts I post though.
You just fly off the handle at various things and do not seem to even try to understand my point as exemplified by my last post's relationship section.
I was just giving you facts and observations, and you turn it into something nasty.
Frankly Zug, you actually could have just skipped that part if you had really wanted to.

When you were working at GW the official and unofficial team total would have been about what 12? You have a fine collection, however I still would never play a game with you. I play Blood Bowl for fun...

Zug, do you truly enjoy showing your ignorance again about this sort of stuff?
It has to be frightfully embarrassing for you.

Now, I said what?:

Now, what would some of those teams be? Let's see:
All the box teams from the 3rd edition twice - that's 16 or so actual teams of players, yes?
That does not even begin to deal with the goblin, halfling and other teams of that ilk that were official, but never had a box set.
Moreover, each separate team would be painted up differently with different numerals and support staff.
Add now, the human color teams that I mentioned above.
Gee, would all of those be human teams of conversions that would play by the normal humans team rules, but just look a good bit different?
Hmm. YES!!
The history supplied by the BB games does talk of teams that GW never made figures for so what would really stop me from converting up figures to make those teams?
Nothing as long as they play by the rules supplied by GW.
Moving on, you then have to count also the Norse team Gary supplied me back in '97.
You would also have to include non-human converted teams for Savage Orc, Black Orks, Forest Goblins, Night Goblins, Ogres, etc. including my championship, unfortunately not champion mind you, Minotaur team from the GW Nagaroth Cup II Staff BB Tournament in '97.
Jervis Johnson liked my team, but one of the business bigwigs from the UK home office just said, "I was minotaur mad!"
Anyway, Vetock's Dwarves won the NCII despite the really great efforts of Harris' Mighty Midgets Halflings (all named after candies and pastries){he averaged one death suffered per game} and the sneaky efforts of Sleboda's Skaven Spittsburg Steelers.
So, having 43 teams when I left GW in '98 is not a stretch at all like you are trying to characterize it as.

I was "gaming mad" at that time Zug, and the amount of money I spent on it showed.
While I worked for GW I collected:
Every army that was available to WFB 5th Ed. to the minimum force total of 10,000 points for each army.
I collected every army available to W40K 2nd Ed. except Chaos and Tyranids to the minimum force total of 15,000 for each army.
I collected three armies for E-W40K to some outrageous amount I cannot remember at this time.
All of those BB teams mentioned above.
I was referred to as the "BB Nutter of GW US MO".
All of Talisman 3rd edition.
What I did not already have for Warhammer Quest before going to GW and then collected it all twice more to provide lots of figs for conversions and many more map pieces and so forth.
Three Necromunda gangs - Van Saar, Escher (I even converted a group of these for an early Amazon BB team before that team was official) and Spyers.
Three Gorka Morka mobs - two orc and one human.

The buy-back deal GW was doing in '97-'98 for US retailers to trade in OOP items for current GW items allowed me access to minis leftover from all over the country.
Great for me because it allowed me to:
*collect huge fleets for all of the forces in Man-O'War.
*collect Mighty Empires and all its metal minis.
*And so on, including four armies for the Space Marine/Titan Legions game.

Now I am, I admit, a bit less gaming mad since I have two children to see to and a beautiful wife to aid in maintaining her happiness, but I still mix it up a bit.
Granted Zug, I still do some serious spending as evidenced by my recent ~$400 order of DF SF MM and not counting almost another $1,000 spent on other gaming items from other companies and on eBay in the last three months.
Do I spend enough on gaming to suit you now and to actually prove to you that I am a REAL gamer?
You have been insinuating now for over a month that I am not one.
Can we now shut down that particular complaint of yours Zug?
I hope so.

As far as playing BB or any other game with you, with how you have treated my wife and myself on this forum, I too admit that you are far from the ideal person I want to play with.
The less said here the better.

Please attempt to refrain from posting ad nauseum regarding topics not germane to Dwarven Forge terrain or directly related to the miniatures and accessories that are incorporated in the games we all enjoy.

So you do not want to hear about relationships?
No problem.
BTW, you are the one who brought relationships to play on this thread YOU created.

BB, that is quite germane since one can play Dungeon Bowl quite happily within DF Fantasy MM; have done so on several occasions.

Any other wargaming minis are all germane because of the wide variety of uses that the three existing genres of DF MM can be used for.

No problem here that I truly see other than the subject YOU introduced.

Very clearly, please rethink why you would believe that the community in general would benefit from your self image as a misunderstood genius.

Since you have characterized me as such and not me myself, this is your coil to deal with, not mine.

Just as in real life, and I know it is hard for you, try to pick up on the social cues. If they close the door as you approach their office, that might mean something...

You have no real idea about this since you have never participated in my actual social circles.
In reality Zug, almost all doors I approach do open when I draw near.

Now who is the alleged expert making nasty comments.
Not me Zuggy!

Try to move on Zug and have a happy life without picking on me and mine any more, okay?
Keep it up and you might be the one to lose an incarnation or may be even worse this time.
Jeff would be the judge of that, yes?
So then, let us just play nice, yes?
