TOPIC: Upcoming "Band of Gnomes" Kickstarter from ADW

I agree about companies launching a second KS without starting fulfillment on what they have committed to and have some issues with a few that have done that. Very few companies have enough of a track record to do that IMHO. DF is one of a few companies I trust at this point.

I pledged $15 for the Ice Age KS as a gamble. I liked the terror bird so I backed it. Haven't backed the BoG KS as everything is just sketches or "rough draft" pieces. Boo on selling products to people without them knowing what they're buying!

I pledged 15 plus shipping for KS1 as it was potentially a great deal, but the gnomes oe is another story. I want to see a lot more, and less BS. Mostly they are talking about meetings and undefined progress.

And if Stefan says amateurish, well, I gotta believe that.

Re:Upcoming "Band of Gnomes" Kickstarter from ADW 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
The most recent updates do not inspire any confidence in me about this project to which I was stupid enough to pledge $30 in what could only be called a moment of insanity. All I can say is that these sculpts are a pile of shit, they're that bad. The sculptor has no sense of anatomy or form... everything is just blobs on these sculpts... despite being 'in progress' they're more than far enough along that there should be some definition and form established, but there's nothing in these sculpts.

What's odd though, if you look at the original sculpts (thank god those are the ones I chose from) you'd think it was two different people doing them and I suspect it is at least two different people. The original ones on the main page were done by someone with more skill than whoever is doing the newest ones.

I went in on this for the mini-mammoth and I hope I get what I saw on the original page. It is very nice. I do not have a lot of confidence in this project, and they are already talking about things two Ks down the path. Finish this one guys!!!

I agree with the sculpt quality. Detail is not slices all over the figure.

Pinmini on the Reaper forums was one of the sculptors originally hired on the project. However, ADW did not pay him for his work, so, obviously, he did not provide them the sculpts. Pinmini further showed me that ADW was resorting to Craigslist for sculptors.

Since I couldn't find confirmation of this, I didn't post, but will be more aggressive in doing so in the future. It's unfortunate that we need to do this, when forum netiquette says otherwise. ):

I have been immensely disappointed with what we are seeing. I was sold on the mammoth and bird sculpts and got a little too excited. My apologies for recommending this Kickstarter.

What is so strange is that they have been communicating like crazy. They're not just disappearing so I believe they honestly want to fulfill this project, but I think they don't know how to do it. We haven't seen any finished sculpts yet so I will hold out hope that we get something decent.

I would agree with you. I think they are in over their heads and don't have the knowledge or experience to fix things properly.

There's a good deal of 'talk' and not enough talent behind that talk.

The reason why I don't have too much hope for the final sculpts at this point is that even though they are not finished they are at a point where you should see proportion, form and some definition/detail, yet there is none showing. It's as if the sculptor has only a rudimentary skill in sculpting. I have an art background so these are things which I'm looking for and expecting at this stage in the sculpting. It does not give me any confidence at all.

I keep looking at the in-progress photos. For some reason the sloth makes me the saddest. That looks like the throwaway sculpts I used to make for my "clay wars" as a kid. My only tool was a toothpick for making "hair" and the eyes and nostrils. Then I'd use them like swords! <sigh>

I really respect that none of you are putting these posts up on their KS. I see far too many people who feel the need to bash KS on their own site.

I am worried about their KS as the quality of sculpts in their last update are just terrible terrible terrible, and am glad I only put a few bucks in there.

I also have come to suspect that the reason they keep offering us huge sculpts is that they don't have the skill to sculpt for 28mm. Those gnomes....omg those gnomes...
