Part 7: Giant ant miniatures

I've seen some giant ant miniatures out there, but they all seem to be lacking that perfect look and or size. Does anyone have a favorite giant ant model that they can recommend as one of the best out there? Thanks

Dungeon Crawler has a PPM plastic medium-sized ant. If you're going for ants, you'll probably need a lot, and for a pre-painted mini, the price isn't too bad. www.dungeoncrawler.com/dcm/index.html

The Monsterpocalypse game (from a few years ago but no longer actively published) featured prepainted minis without a clear scale. The smallest ones were compatible with 15mm or below, but many were much larger. For insects, I think all the sizes might work (large insects vs monstrous insects)

One of the factions in the game was an insect faction "The Savage Swarm". Here's a link to a photo gallery.

www.monsterpocalypse.com/gallery/Savage%20Swarm

The photo gallery is somehow missing pics of the dire ants and vice pinchers from the Big In Japan set though:

Since the game was only from a few years ago, you can find them pretty easily on online auction sites and mini trading sites, I think. I don't have these in hand, so I really can't give any further details.

Mega Miniatures used to have Giant ants. I do not know who has the molds. Try the Dollar Tree and Party City. Look for the hard plastic type.

They also make spiders.

Shop during Halloween you can find all kinds of bugs on sale.

I'm a little partial to Otherworld Miniatures. They have lots of giant insects and other nasty critters like leeches and rats.

The Heroscape Sujoah mini is awesome, especially the wings, because the are transparent with that blu/green/purple sheen like an oil slick. It doesn't show up in the picture, but looks great in person.

Alpha Forge games sold the wasp to MegaMinis, who in turn sold it to thetekumelproject.blogspot.ca/

But I can't find it on their site.

...I am just admiring all these fantastic insect figures. Here was me thinking that only I collected giant insects!
Great collection. I do have a few different ones to these (Mostly Ants and Giant flies). I really must dig my figures out and take some photos to share. (Mostly bought from ebay painter ROG Roger O'Dell)

Nobody asked, but Reaper makes a good looking ankheg and remorhaz, two D&D staples from the original monster manual.

I really like that this one comes out of the ground at its base, so you can turn a "serious fight" into a fantasy version of whack-a-mole.

And this one comes in several pieces, so if you only want to buy the forward half you can.
